Does Moreno have money problems???
I gotta tell ya, I've had Angels season tickets for 34 years and this offseason is smelling putrid. Seems like the 90's all over again - players coming here at the end of their career because they are cheap, desperate or both. And where did that get the Angels - nowhere!! This "team" is on its way to becoming the Pirates of the AL West. Just can't wait until Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada are on their last legs. They can always become Angels.
This is not a light issue and it is a very passionate one so there is no use to pooh pooh it by mindlessly supporting this off season's rubbish. Personally, I'm mad as hell and you all should be the same. I don't have time to see this team burn to ashes and then rise again under a new owner someday. Christ, Arte took away our Anaheim and now he's taking away our team. If he does get rid of Rivera for a washed up pitcher like Derek Lowe, I'm turning in my season tickets.
Arte won't deal with Boras [there's some good logic in that] but all he accomplishes with that is that it drives up the prices for others and the next year the Angels can't afford the price level they helped to escalate. They use GMJ's contract as an excuse but I suspect it runs deeper, like to Arte's financials. Either he is hurting bigtime or Tony Reagins is supremely naive [how the hell did he get Torii?] or he is just echoing the party line like the StoneMan and its getting stronger with the team's nonsensical approach to this off season. Like the StoneMan, Reagins "tries hard" but in the end all we get is shafted and we're supposed to accept it because he "tried."

he's just acting responsibly
in a few years when figgy has slowed down, lackey has been shut down and vlad is run down from running his tortilla factory in the dr (or whatever that business was on the fox special on him) we’ll thank arte.

I agree...
The only thing I question is not going after Halladay harder. I don’t question letting the players go. They were all not worth what they got.
How do you know how "hard" we went after Halladay?
The consensus of reports had an offer of Saunders, Aybar/Napoli and Bourjos.
The players the Jays will be receiving aren’t known, but the names most commonly bandied about include a 20 year old Canadian from the Ms who hasn’t pitched an inning of pro ball, two OF (one from the Ms and one from the Phillies) with almost zero pro innings played, and maybe Brandon Morrow.
As golden as these prospects may be—there may be the next Clemente or Koufax in that mix—please tell me how the Angels’ offer wasn’t trying “hard enough”.

And that's something that bothers me
It happened last season with Lee, too.
Cleveland wanted a shitload of roster players from us, and wound up trading him to Philly for an Abba Zabba bar and a bucket of baseballs.
Now with Doc, Toronto wanted Saunders, our top prospect (Bourjos) and either Aybar, Napoli, or Reckling — depending on the rumor. Instead they trade him for Morrow and a bucket of balls.
What is up with that? They ask us for the world, and then give it away to someone else.

Except that we are not here to root for the team that that will not be.
We are not here, even, to root for the team that will be.
We are here to root for the team that is.
I will root for the 2012 team that is, when it is 2012.
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
Seriously...
Arte is a fantastic owner. Their is no justification in bashing him. Allowing Figgins and Lackey to walk were the correct decisions.

You realize that statistically speaking...
Derek Lowe is just as good as John Lackey right?
Right...
There is 0 statistical evidence Lowe is anywhere near as good as Lackey. Dude is 36, hasn’t played in the AL since 2004 and is coming off a wretched season.
Dude is an average AL SP at this point in his career.

Except there is...
since 2008
Derek Lowe – 68 GS, 3.8 WAR
John Lackey – 51 GS, 2.95 WAR
Feel free to adjust for the NL, Lowe is the better pitcher the last two years because he actually goes out and pitches. If we’re gonna give Lackey a completely stupid contract we can probably consider giving Lowe 50% of the money.
The Angels were not that great over half of the 34 years you've apparently been a fan
And you’re ready to jump ship after one bad day?
Derek Jeter broke up with Kate Hudson today.

I think fans are the ones with money problems
If Arte’s business interests crash and burn tomorrow, he’ll likely still live comfortably for the rest of his life.
But he is trying to keep the ballpark accessible to families and kids that might not be able to afford a ticket to Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park, while at the same time compete for a championship. He has not acted in self interest from what I can tell.
Let’s not confuse John Lackey, as much as I would have liked to have seen him back, with a superstar. If he had been a free agent the same year as better pitchers, his value wouldn’t have been so inflated.

Sorry dude...
Epic Fail! How can you bash an owner about something the GM is in charge of…. Sorry they only want to spend $114 mil every year. Maybe you need a chill pill, I think you are a little spoiled if it has come to you being this pissed off. If they did trade Rivera (don’t see that happening) then I would think there was an underlying problem. GMJ would be the one to go, and we would still have to pay him because nobody in there right mind would take him for his contract.
With that said…. Just turn off your TV and Radio… oh and stop reading stuff online, you might get an ulcer.
