If Matt Cain is off the table, what about Johnathon Sanchez
Sanchez is being discussed as a possible trading piece to land Dan Uggla from the Marlins. If the Giants are willing to deal Sanchez perhaps the Halos can package a deal of Rivera, Napoli, and Sandoval for Sanchez. This will address the Halos 5th man in the rotation who is young, under team control until 2012. His WHIP has improved every year and last year was at 1.45 and his career batting average allowed is .246. Last year he only gave up 19 home runs.

Maybe I'm over valuing him.
So what does it take to land him?

Way too rich
Sandoval will have to be the reserve behind Kendrick, Wood and Aybar, especially if Izturis is gone next year.
Sanchez is better than OK, but I don’t think he merits that kind of payout.

Fair enough. Sandoval stays... who goes?

I think
the Giants already have 2 stud catching prospects so Napoli wouldn’t make sense for them. Rivera obviously would, but then how do we replace his offense? We’re not going after Bay or Holiday so we’d have Gary Matthews out there?
Accounting for his leaving a very pitcher friendly park in the NL, you would have to be expecting a regression from Sanchez if he were here.
Considering the cost of offense to get him, I would rather go with the cheaper in-house route and see how that goes and then re-evaluate at the deadline. Sean O’Sullivan or Trevor Bell could develop into solid #5’s with a little more maturation

Nobody goes; I don't see that this trade improves the team

They would consider moving Sanchez to 3B for Uggla

SOS and Palmer are about as good as any other 5th starter available right now.
Makes no sense at all to give up Napoli and Rivera for some bottom rotation pitcher.

Why would the Giants want Napoli?
They have Posey and Pablo?
I thought that they weren't confident in their catchers just yet.
Why they kept Molina around last year.

I think Sanchez would be an interesting pickup
…but at the right price. Rivera, Sandoval, AND Napoli? Holy mother of Jeebus I’m glad you are not the GM.
