Compensation Picks for our Departed Free-Agents
In 2009 we received Grichuk (.322 with AZL) and Trout (.352 AZL/CED) for losing Texiera and K-Rod. I've searched on the web for the "Top Compensation Picks" of all time but haven't found a good source.
With all we have lost so far this winter, my goal is to find another silver lining by finding what Figgins and Lackey's exodus might stock us with in the next draft. Any ideas?

So three in the first 30...
… #19 (from Seattle), #30 (from the Red Sox), and #28 (just for being the Angels) — all of them bumped down a spot because of the compensation pick to Texas at #15. That’s not bad quantity-wise, but out of the “sure-thing” range at the top. A couple of college pitchers and some toolsy HS infielder, probably.
I don't have time to go through the full list, but....
… these are probably among the best of the 20+ or so compensation picks we’ve received:
1983 Wally Joyner (#67 pick, comp for Don Baylor)
1986 Roberto Hernandez (#16, Juan Beniquez)
1986 Mike Fetters (#27, Juan Beniquez)
1980 Dennis Rasmussen (#17, Nolan Ryan)
2001 Jeff Mathis (#33, Mark Petkovsek)
2006 Hank Conger (#25, Paul Byrd)
2005 Trevor Bell (#37, Troy Percival)
2000 Chris Bootcheck (#20, Mike Magnante)
1991 Jorge Fabregas (#34, Chili Davis)
Trout seems destined to crack that list, if he hasn’t already.
Jorge Fabregas?
Really?
Nick would be proud.

In light of that. I have no arguement.

A day doesnt go by that I dont thank the lord for Jorge Fabergas and his weird lefty batting stance......
Loved that guy.
Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work. - Peter Gibbons

Entertaining anecdote about his nickname in Matt McCarthy's book
“The Boot,” apparently, was/is synonymous with drinking your future away like a fish….
No
Yanks didn’t offer Damon arb. If the M’s signed Holliday, Bay, Valverde or Gonzales then yes, but all that seems unlikely. Though who knows; they may do it just to screw over the Angels even more.
we just need make sure the mariners don't sign Bay
or the Red Sox don’t sign Holliday. If that scenario happens not only do our rivals get better but the Red Sox and Cardinals would probably get the 1st round compensation picks.

Unbelievable. Silva is worse than a AAA pitcher and is due $25 million over the next two years.
Bradley (career .277/.371/.450) is solid on offense. He could be a 2 or 3 WAR player for the Ms. Silva has no value as a starter or as a relief pitcher. it’s too bad other GMs are so stupid to simply give away players (Lee, Bradley) to the Ms for absolutely nothing in return.

Yeah, but they get to deal with his inevitable explosion.
Angels baseball. We do what we must, because we can -- HaloDutch
we should start a pool as to when Gameboy blows up
My pick is July 4th (just to start it off
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
I'm not sure when it will be
but remember… you read it here first.

Right, but that is them getting better again
and that Carlos Silva contract was awful.
