Enberg to the Padres...What the?
Moreno does not miss often but this would have been the most brilliant signing of the off season. Dick Enberg is a hall of fame broadcaster and former Halo. Signing Enberg to a multi-year deal on the verge of Scully's impending retirement would have been Moreno's greatest LA coup to date. It would have assured Halo dominance over the LA airwaves for years to come. Congrats to the Friars...Touch'em all!
Oh my!

Enberg is 75 and lives in La Jolla
Took one look at the commute from there to Anaheim and said “OH MY! I hope that Moreno guy doesn’t come calling… better sign with the Pads pronto…”
He is not gonna make the commute to Anaheim no matter how much they pay him.
The awesomeness
has entered the building.

I'm a season ticket holder and I live out in La Jolla
it’s a bitch to get out to the freeway (about 10 mins of city streets), the drive takes about 75 mins if I leave before 3 for a 7pm game.
The train is only a few miles from La Jolla in Solana Beach and goes straight to the Angel stadium lot, i don’t think the commute is THAT bad if done by train.
#34, never forget.
Yeah, but....
…. are you 75?

Agreed on Rex
Getting fired is what he gets, I suppose, for doing everything the team asked him to do and more, especially after his pot episode. More often than not anymore I believe this Angel organization has no soul.

I dig Enberg.
Oh well.

All the good broadcasters are old.
Are there any young good ones? Or are they all Joe Buck clones?
Happy Birthday to the ground!
You wouldn't be getting the Enberg of the 1970s
He’s going to do the National League West games only and probably miss some to do other network sports. He will make mistakes because he isn’t as close to the team day to day and the games he doesn’t do will be poorly done by fill-in part-timers.
It is a publicity stunt because no matter how much he costs, players cost more and the Padres don’t figure to be good. Plus, Enberg will probably quit after a year or two.
I don’t think Angel fans would get what they expected if he had returned. Plus, if you like the announcers they have decided on next year having Enberg push them aside might cause some dissension in the ranks.
Dick Enberg is the greatest Angel announcer of all time IMO, though.

...and Enberg and Drysdale formed the best broadcast team the Angels ever had...
…and maybe the best team I have ever heard. They actually made listening to early ’70’s Angel broadcasts interesting. No easy feat (with the exception of Ryan of course).
Do you recall the calls to move Torre from broadcaster to manager?
It’s too bad the Angels never offered the opportunity.
I was one of the VERY vocal supporters of that move
Oh well…that’s baseball
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
I didn't like him at first...
…but he seemed to get better over time. I also think it’s because he became the more or less permanent replacement for Enberg.
It took a while for me too
But I liked Wisk. Whatever happened to him?
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
IIRC, he broadcast for several years for the Royals....
…after being replace by Bob (pure vanilla) Starr.
I just had a waking nightmare
Bob Starr doing play-by-play with Guby at color.
Deep breaths…only half true
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Appreciate what you got...
Terry Smith is a fine announcer and Rory and Guby are half-bad to boot. Oh and all three are classy. Unlike Phyz and that read-headed pot-smoking fool….

Bummer
What we’ve got is not even in the same league as Enberg. For years I’ve been secretly hoping that he’d come back to the Angels someday. Oh well. Congrats to the Pads. I’ll have to try to listen to some of their games now.
OK, I'm finally over losing Tex. Thanks Kendry.

I can tell you that the Padres announcing booth needs desparate help. Whenever my Dodger fan roommates get all excited and turn on our TV to watch those two teams I’m either put to sleep or forced to hold back giggles when I hear Tony Gwynn’s voice.
I have to put on headphones to my laptop or jack up the sound so I can listen to Rex on mlb.tv. Of course, now I can’t even do that. I think I’m screwed…

Slighty OT
But Phyzz was doing an ASU-Baylor men’s college basketball game on Prime Ticket tonight. I promptly changed the channel (Oregon/OSU was on at same time)
It would have been great to get Enberg back
but I think this was the perfect opportunity for him. Close to home, 100 games, few road trips. Good for him. He’s always been a class guy who deserves to be in the Angels HOF.
I was watching ESPN and they announced...
“Dick Enberg will be broadcasting baseball this season for…..
I thought for sure they were going to say Angels.
….the Padres."
Oh well.
I've got nothing.
