"The Seattle Mariners will Regret this Day . . . ."
Steve Henson of Yahoo on the signing Milton Bradley . . .
The Seattle Mariners will regret this day. Just like the Indians regret July 31, 2001, the Dodgers regret April 3, 2004, the Athletics regret Dec. 13, 2005, the Padres regret June 29, 2007, and the Cubs deeply, deeply regret Jan. 9, 2009.
Milton Bradley(notes) does that to teams. Makes them lament their gullibility for believing he can change. Makes them furious at their tunnel vision, so certain it will be different in their organization, in their clubhouse, in their lineup. Makes them wonder why his ability to hit a baseball from both sides of the plate clouded their better judgment.

The only team that probably isn't bummed on that list is the Padres.
IIRC he was fine in that clubhouse (maybe it was the UCSD girls). Bud Black just tried to restrain him and injured him by accident.
Nick would be proud.
UCSD Girls
In that case, I’m damn glad he’s gone from SD. My daughter is at UCSD.
Oh, and Petco is downtown, UCSD is in La Jolla. Petco may be closer to SDSU.

SDSU girls are better.
And I’m talking talking about their educational pursuits.

first “talking” with “NOT”.
Not sure how I did that. Too much beer last night or something.

Too much time spent at SDSU is more like it.

I sure wish.
I’ve been accepted in the past, but the cost of living has proved prohibitive. They even have my grad school degree program.
Anyone want to adopt me? I’m house-trained…

Hey, I'm just glad Ethier is out of our division.
I miss Hudler already.

The genius of Billy Beane. Sarcasm, please note the sarcasm.

Seriously, how can people think he's so good? He's about to give Coco Crisp 5 million!

Seriously
Moneball loses credit everytime he makes a move like this.

He's about to get
another 4th place finish up there. And soon, they will be called the Oakland A’s of San Jose, that is if the Giants permit them (read: get compensated) to move to their territory.

Seems to be a overstating the case a little to me.
Especially given Ken Macha, Buddy Black and Eddie Guardado all stick up for the guy in this article.
Those are three guys that have done time in the AL West, for Oakland, Anaheim and Texas respectively. Pair Bradley with Ken Griffey Jr, who Bradley names as his idol, and a really low-key manager in Wakamatsu, in a small media market, in a league where he’s had a lot of success — there’s plenty of reason to think he might do fine.
Halo fans understandably want to play down the Mariners’ excellent off-season, but I think it’s way too early to call this trade reckless. Silva was complete shit. Almost every other article I’ve read says this was outright thievery for the Ms, and I have to agree.
Agreed
Bradley is always on his best behavior to start. And if he is able to behave himself for an entire year, the M’s should be pretty strong in 2010. Lee could leave after 2010 and maybe it could fall apart after that.
In short, I hope Bradley messes up the chemistry, but I’m not really counting on it.
OK, I'm finally over losing Tex. Thanks Kendry.
What the Silva trade aptly illustrates: We coulda had Bradley for GMJ
The Cubs, after agreeing to pay a guy basically no one believes can pitch, are now desperately looking for a center fielder. Seems like there was a two-birds-with-one-stone opportunity for them here, but the Angels decided it was better to add $6.5 million to the payroll for an older (and far less combustible) DH, rather than keep payroll flat & bring on the AL’s OPS leader in 2008.
Because of that fact, I’m glad Seattle got Bradley. If you are going to make such bold non-decisions as that, based on your capital-V Values, then you might as well confront your decision on a constant basis. I for one would have taken Bradley for GMJ in a heartbeat, and I will be interested to see whether events prove me wrong.
Seattle had to fork over a large chunk of change
To reach agreement on that trade. Plus, Bradley has two years remaining on his deal (2011 technically being a conditional club option), contrasted with the one year deal signed by Godzilla.
I’m not disagreeing by any means, but while the Angels may have considered a straight-up one for one deal, the Cubs perhaps wanted cash to complete the transaction, making a deal for a combustible player that much more risky. And risky is not a term I would use to describe the Angels front office at this point in time.

Cupie could print T-shirts of this and sell them to M's fans.
