Mike Francesa just reported on WFAN the Mets have signed Jason Bay pending a physical this weekend. He also said Bengie Molina is holding to his three year contract demands.
I find this strange that Francesa has this type of confidence and Ken Rosenthal, Jon Heyman, or another writer didn’t have it first.
Also to note, Matt Cerrone reported that people close to Bay say the outfielder is prepared to sign a 4 year deal with an average annual value around $16.5 million.
If this is true the Mets got the bat they needed at a reasonable price, especially if they didn’t have to go for a fifth year.
If this is true, the Mets probably really did get something of a steal. They don't need to add a fifth year, and they already lost a fair chunk of payroll in this offseason, so they'd still have room to do some other signings. Jason can't be too happy, though.
