So Halladay would veto a trade because we train in Arizona?
Just updating you guys on the latest Bullshit...
Last night we heard from former Blue Jays' GM J.P. Ricciardi that Roy Halladay wants to be traded, adding that whenever you have a player of that magnitude, any decision to move him is one ownership makes. The Halladay talk figures to get hot and heavy during the Winter Meetings next week, so let's see what's being written about the situation right now...
* The Jays are looking for "top prospects at pitcher, shortstop and catcher in any deal," says Phil Rogers of The Chicago Tribune. He adds that the White Sox surely would have been in on Halladay if they didn't acquire Jake Peavy at the deadline.
* Anthony McCarron of The NY Daily News says the Yankees will "see what's there," referring to potential trade talks with Toronto.
* ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes says "it's starting to sound like [the Red Sox] have considerable qualms about the kind of money and players it will take to land" Doc.
* Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus says that a trade to the Angels will not happen because Halladay wants to train in Florida, and that's "absolute." The Halos train in Tempa, Arizona. If true, this demand would also eliminate the Cubs, Dodgers, and Rangers, all of whom train in Arizona and have been linked to Halladay at various times.

not buying it
If the Jays actually work out a trade to a team thats been in the playoffs this entire decade, he can deal.
RIP Nick Adenhart
Bullshit.
If the money is right he’d show up to ST in Albania. I’m sure he would like to stay on the east coast, but, much like U-haul last season its all about the money.
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
+1
We know this is bullshit because the Angels almost dealt for Halladay earlier this year, and it’s not as if the Angels just moved their spring training to Arizona.
Also, from a story just the other day: “Halladay supposedly told his agent that he’d be happy to go to the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.”

yeah I heard that he would love to be on those teams.
thats why I call bullshit on Will Carroll opinion.

Indeed
By all accounts, he had agreed to waive his no trade to the Angels in July. Carroll either has a bad source, or was simply making something up for fun.
It seems most of those guys do.
I miss Hudler already.

I don't know about Albania...
That is one messed up country. Although to its credit, it looks great in pictures.
I helped my youngest son on his 7th grade report on Lichtenstein.
I figured that was a much better ST locale when compared to Albania.

What a bizarre thing to report
Setting aside for a moment whether or not its true:
- Spring training is about 9 weeks out of the player’s year, since pitchers and catchers arrive two weeks before position players. If his objection was to playing for a team in Arizona, I could understand that since half the season would be played there, but an objection to the regional location for the spring training site is too strange to understand
- Halladay was born and raised in Denver, and he and his wife are Mormons; Arizona has the 5th largest total Mormon population of states in the US, and the 4th largest concentration. Therefore, it isn’t as if he was objecting because Arizona was some modern-day Sodom and there was no way to worship while in camp. It also isn’t as if he isn’t familiar with the Rocky Mountain states.
- Halladay wants to be compensated in a particular level, and the number of teams which can afford that level are very few; one of those few happens to be the Angels. I can’t imagine he’d limit his financial prospects simply because of the spring training site.
Finally, from Gordon Edes’ blog (referenced above):
The Red Sox may just be hiding their hand, but it’s starting to sound like they have considerable qualms about the kind of money and players it will take to land pitcher Roy Halladay. Keep an eye on the Angels; they have the pieces to make it work.

The story behind the supposed Florida demand
Turns out, the whole Florida connection is due to Halladay making his home in the Tampa area. Thus, he would PREFER to train close to his family.
We’ll ignore for a moment the fact that some teams train on the Atlantic side of the state and not near Tampa- -apparently, this represents a preference, not an intractable demand.
Also, the Angels have told the Jays that they won’t deal without an agreement for an extension first. This might mean that no deal is made, but it is nice to know the team stakes out its position early on.

This is bullshit
I don’t know that the Halos will land Halladay, but given the earlier reports this week that Halladay would in fact approve a trade to the Angels, and that, as GK pointed out above, ST is such a miniscule proportion of the player’s season/year, this has GOT to be Reporter grasping at straws before he goes the way of countless other reporters…
RIP Nick Adenhart.

Arizona
Yeah, nothing sucks more than mild temperatures and no humidity. Who’d want to get up every day in that kind of weather?
Ah. See, to me
That means hot and dry, which is teh suck.

As soon as I read that this morning...
I thought BULLSHIT. You all got it right, not buying this story and it’s likely there is a bad source involved.
Now that figgins is gone
and S-rod, we really have no depth to trade for Halladay, especially for one year.
Rather than 1 year of Halladay, we’re better off waiting until halfway through the season and see if the marlins suck and we can get Josh Johnson…
#34, never forget.
major league depth maybe
we do have a farm system. Bourjos, Conger, Reckling, Will Smith, O’Sullivan, Bell are all appealing prospects they’d have to at least consider.

Extension
I’m pretty sure the Angels wouldn’t make a deal for Halladay without the opportunity to negotiate an extension.
Will Carroll Sells out to Google
Hmmm… Boston, Chicago Cubs and White Sox, Dodgers, Rangers, Cubs and Angels all mentioned along with the Yankees with a twist that make sit a unique rumor.
DAMN… Wish I had thought of such a fantasy rumor to drive traffic here….
I think I've figured it out
Halliday must be wanted by the cops in Arizona. That’s the only logical explanation.

Bullshit
But could you imagine if Halliday is this big of a money grubbing bitch? Might as well just put the pinstripes on him and be done with it.

Tempa...
Kinda funny, a Tampa/Tempe hybrid…
