hope he gets the proper reception his first AB back at the A
RIP Nick Adenhart
I'm trying to see the bright side
I’ll miss Figgins a lot. It’s easier for me to pretend he’s not gone and just look at Wood.

He looks so much happier in red.
I miss Hudler already.

Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
damn freeagency.
i really liked figgy. wood has big shoes to fill.
Chili Davis - the closest thing the MLB got to a real life Pedro Cerrano.
LA Times, Bill Shaikin article:
From today’s LA Times
“When you’re one of the last three teams standing, you can really see your weaknesses,” Arte Moreno said at last month’s owners’ meetings. “They’re sending someone up that hit 35 home runs. We’re sending someone up that can’t hit a home run.”
Match that statement with one that Bill Stoneman made about letting Troy Glaus walk away into Free Agency:
“It might have been different if we didn’t have Dallas McPherson”.
I love Figgins as much as anyone, but the above statements say tons. Mix in budget considerations with age-related performance expectations to achieve the scenario we see unfolding right in front of our eyes.
interesting quote from Moreno
IMO I don’t think Figgy is a weakness because of his lack of homers, I thought he was a weakness because he can be taken completely out of the game by simply throwing a lefty up against him. He’s a great player against RHP, he just doesn’t get to see them enough in the playoffs.
in so many words...
its more about Figgy than it is about Aybar, a young prospect who hasnt even reached his peak. Who else is it about? Mathis?

doesn't seattle already have a leadoff hitter ...
and a pretty good one named Ichiro? Who are they going to sign next, Juan Pierre?
2010: The year of Angels World Domination
Leadoff hitters aren't the issue.
Good hitters of any stripe are important. If Figgy hits 2nd but posts a .380 OBP, who cares that he hits 2nd? Line-up position is not important. Take a look at Seattle’s offense from last year – they need ANYONE that can get on base and do positive things when they are at the plate.
Seattle has a world-class shitastic offense – this helps them field a better team.
RIP Nick...

Ichiro's average was one of the best
I bet Figgins leads off and Ichiro bats second. That’s a powerful one-two.

You guys are cracking me up. Figgins was a pretty amazing defensive player. He had/has tremendous speed and can still a base or two. But Figgins didn’t carry this team. You guys are more emotional about Figgy then you are about Vladimir. And to me that says something.
Figgins really didn’t even find his niche until what, 2 years ago. Vlad was carrying this team into the post season almost his entire career at Anaheim.
I loved Figgins as much as the next time, but he wasn’t G.A., King Fish, or even Darin Erstad. I’m sure Figgins will go on to have a fine 3 years in Seattle and 2 that won’t be so fine.
Time to turn the page fellas. Y’all starting sound like the girl who got stood up for her prom date.

Figgins is still a homegrown product
Plus, unlike the rapidly aging Vlad, he should still have a few very good years left before he falls off a cliff. He reminds me a bit of Johnny Damon when he went to the Yankees. Sure, Damon has/had a little more pop, a little less speed, and is rapidly inferior in the field but offensively he’s aged fairly well over his contract. I can see Figgins doing something comparable with better defense and slightly worse offensive numbers.
Also, there’s always the worry that Wood turns into Dallas McPherson.
'Cept... you know the entire back injury thing.
McPherson couldn’t stay healthy.

He doesn't look bad in mariners uni...
But I agree with a few of you in letting Chone go. That money needs to be spent elsewhere.
So, this website is selling some funny little shirts cheap...
One of them is some weird dancing Santa and some text that says “Gettin’ Figgy With It” and I laughed and thought, “that’d be a fun gag shirt to wear to a game next year,” then reality dawned on me and I was sad. This one is going to take time for me personally to get over.
Oh, and any Seattle fans? http://www.swagdog.com/p-437-gettin-figgy-with-it-t-shirt.aspx

Just let it go
It hurts to lose Figgins, but face it, he’s not irreplaceable. He’s played great in his prime, but a few years ago he was just a guy who could run and play lots of positions. I think the Angels are right not to bet on his future.
Next year the Angels should have at least one competent 3B out of Wood and Izturis, and one respectable leadoff man out of Abreu, Izturis, and Kendrick (and maybe even Aybar will learn to take a walk or two, we can always hope). If not, someone useful is always available in July.
The Mariners also don’t gain a lot having Figgins at third instead of Beltre. They are very different hitters, but you’re looking at a .335 vs. .339 career wOBA. And Beltre is also a fantastic glove man. The Mariners would have to make a couple more splashes this offseason to seriously threaten the Angels, in my opinion.
Guerrero can probably be signed to an incentive-laden deal, but Reagins had better do it before the Rangers or White Sox or even the Yankees do. With a full healthy season, he could hit 40 home runs in those tiny launchpads they have in Arlington, Chicago, and New York. I’m not convinced he’s dead yet, just don’t bat him cleanup.
But the picture I absolutely do not want to see is Lackey in fucking pinstripes. The Angels just can’t replace him; I’m not confident they have the pieces to land Roy Halladay, and then you’d still have to pay him too. Arte needs to take that $36 million he saved and roll it into John Lackey’s 401k.

Agree with Suboptimal 100%
Figgy’s departure is sad, a fan fave and classy guy all around. But I agree that he isn’t irreplaceable, and the 30+ million can be thrown in Lackey’s direction. I don’t want to see Lackey in fucking pinstripes either!
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
Agree totally on Lackey and Figgy
If the price is right, I would sign Vladdy if he will just DH. On the other hand though I can’t help but wonder what Napoli could do if he finally had 500+ at bats, many of which would likely come from the DH spot with Vladdy gone.
To me resigning Lackey is a must. With Halladay you have to trade too many players and then sign him to an extension that will probably be more in dollars than Lackey due to Halladay’s name. Why go after Halladay when you have a slightly younger pitcher available that is known to love Southern CA and won’t cost any players other than a draft pick that can be gained as compensation?
RIP Nick Adenhart
I have to say I agree completely
Lackey with Boston or Texas is equally as bad
See Ya!!!
I am glad to see him go, give this team a new look. Enjoy Seattle and last place.
First we had a Salmon and now we have a Trout, let's see the same results.
Shhh don't jinx it!

I wish him all the best
Quite frankly, I want Wood to have a real chance at 3B, and Figgins was blocking him at quite a premium. Chone was one my favorite Angels, even with his postseason “performance” this year, and I hope he enjoys playing in Seattle.
R.I.P. Nick Adenhart - Always an Angel
Apparently, Seattle doesn't have black people...
Quite a few of the Chone comments on Lookout Landing have to do with the fact that Chone is black (going so far as to refer to him as “Figga”). I have no idea why this is such a novelty. Are we just used to ethnic diversity down here in So Cal?
I really hope Seattle treats him with the respect he deserves.
I miss Hudler already.
There was another comment on LL about Seattle now being "the blackest team in the majors."
Not too sure where that comes from.
RIP Nick Adenhart.

holy hell! the angels will now have 3 white people on average on the field....
Unless Freddy Sandoval steals that third base job!
(for those of you who may take this wrong…one of my favorite parts of the Angels is their diversity. I think it accurately represents the broad-reaching influence baseball has had in the world).

Figgy
Anyone want to buy an authentic Figgy Angels jersey? Really hate to see him go, but we need power at the hot corner and I’m hopeful, as I’m sure Reagins is that Wood at a fraction of Figgy’s new salary will provide it. Time to see if Wood is the real deal or Dallas McPherson re-incarnate. BTW, will our new leadoff man be Aybar or izzy?
