Later Big John hello Aroldis Chapman
Take Big Johns 20 million and year and throw it out the window. Give chapman five a year, he possibly spends part of season in the minors and is ready by the allstar break. Kid throws 100, is only 21 and the sky could be the limit. We have a cuban connection with Kendry. I would rather Lackey sign with Boston or New York than see Champman sign with either team. What do you think?

I suspect the halofever that you have has turned into an aneurism
The Chapman hype machine has reached Hideki Irabu proportions. John Lackey IS the face of Angel baseball; we need him.
Chapman will need YEARS in the minors
I don’t know who’s been feeding you such horrible intel on Chapman, but being the best pitcher in Cuban baseball is like being the top pitcher in the Pioneer League. It would make things easier if getting the radar gun to read “100” a few times a game was tantamount to being a major-league pitcher, but he is a very raw talent at this time.
Just as Morales needed several years in the minors before he was ready to compete at the major-league level, so will Chapman need a lot of work before he steps out on a mound in Anaheim or anywhere else.
I think the Angels will be fine without Lackey, but it is delusional to propose Chapman as a substitute.

Actually, being the best pitcher in the Cuban league is quite an accomplishment
See El Duque and Jose Contreras, for example. The problem is, Chapman’s nowhere near the best pitcher in Cuba. He hasn’t found the strike zone yet, and until he does, he won’t be very helpful.
The only reason I say now is because the time is now
We’re not the Mets or the Padres who are rebuilding. We are a major contender and pretty much the only AL team able to stand up to the East. A move like that would take years, he would pitch for an entirely new team. If we were rebuilding, then yes. We’re not though, we’re already established.
I miss Hudler already.
Big John is a great angel...
baseball is a business, John knows this and doesn’t care about this franchise as much as we care about him. The angels have made plenty of fair offers but he’s convinced he’s a 20 million a year man. I just don’t see it as a wise investment. The only reason we should bring him in is because we think we will loose Jered Weaver, a boris client, in 2 years.
Correction
The only reason we should bring him in is because we think we will loose Jered Weaver, a boris client, in 2 years.
“The only reason we should bring him in is because we think we will lose Jered Weaver, a Boras client, in 3 years.”
Weaver will have his first arbitration hearing in January. He gets a total of three, which means he will be under team control through the 2012 season.
And I don’t know if you were aware, but the Angels maintain an entire minor league system, with one of its responsibilities being to provide replacement pitchers. There is every indication that that system will produce at least one replacement for Jered Weaver by 2013, and it isn’t necessary to spend tens of millions of dollars (the anticipated price of Chapman) to sign one untested prospect when that same amount of money can sign a dozen arms for the system.

there is a clip on youtube (sorry i don't have the link) of chapman
pitching. it’s from i believe the world baseball classic and he’s pitching against either s.korea or japan. the length on the clip is about 10 minutes long and he only gets up to about 93-94 mph. that’s good but not 100-101. the speed is done kilometers per hour but if you watch w/a calculator and multiply the kilos per hour by .62 that will give you his mph’s. his control was all over the place, if this is his erratic control then he’s a disaster but if this is because of where the pitch is supposed to go then he’s got crazy/wild like a fox control.
as for chapman....
the sky is the limit… he has the God given talent and only needs good coaching to give him more control. He posses the strikeout potential the angels are looking for in an ace. Lackey is no #1. Most GM’s don’t regard him as such and neither do the angels which would rather pay Hallady than Big John.
Chapman is not Kendry and isn’t as raw. He needs a year in the minors at least. But how is any different than Pedro, or other hard throwing latin prospect?
The same was said about Nuke LaLoosh
Many players with a ton of raw talent sign with a team, but never advance past AAA. Assuming he’s a lock to make the big team in 2011 because of something you read somewhere is a pure fantasy.

If the sky is the limit
You’d better hope the sky isn’t falling.
1 line siggy line because I was asked nicely. Go Angels! helpfindscottajob@gmail.com
Lackey looking for more money and length on his contract than Burnett?

I guess that means no hometown discount for us. Neat. Let’s lock up a 30+ year old pitcher for the next six years.
I've got nothing.
He can ask for anything
The question is, Is there a team stupid enough to give it to him?
Probably.

Chapman?
We can sign Valverde and Soriano to help our BP instead of signing Chapman.
They want power. We want respect...
If Lackey goes to the Mariners, however,
Then we’re not so much. I would guess this would lead to a deal of some kind BEFORE the season starts.

Chapman will bust...
He’s a great talent but Eddie Bane’s the top scouting director in all of baseball. Eddie Bane seems to think he needs lots more development. He doesn’t have control over his emotions or his fastball and he doesn’t have the breaking pitch yet. He’s ready for AA, but once he gets to AAA, he won’t be effective unless he matures significantly.
Chap’s going to be an expensive lefty reliever.
