Angels begin initial talks with Bay
We should get a good idea of the possibility and range of contract this is going to take.
Bay is an absolute perfect fit as a LF/DH platoon with Rivera. Bay hit .267/.384/.537 with 36 HR in 2009. He represents everything the Angels need in a now empty 3 spot in the lineup.
His defense is beyond horrible, but his bat is well worth the cost.

I kept thinking that if Bay signed
That he goes Left and Right becomes platooned with Abreu and Rivera. Having Hunter in center certainly helps cover some of the ground in left.

ah man i was in the middle of editing mine when you posted this
Thanks for being alert and awake Phi…
The best (only?) reason to sign Bay
It makes the Red Sox offense that much more impotent. They needed his bat with Manny gone, Youklis and Drew on the DL for stretches, and Ortiz and Lowell fading like yesterday’s sunset. Losing Bay makes the job of retooling (adding more guys who are complete tools?) the Red Sox offense that much more pressing.
Personally, I don’t think he’s worth Hunter’s money—Hunter does play his defensive spot in a manner of an elite, while Bay does a dancing bear routine. But if he can help carry the offense and not collide with Hunter in the OF, then I suppose it is worth it if Arte says it is worth it.

hmmm
I kinda like Rivera’s arm in LF. He even made some really great, though goofy, plays at the wall this year… if Bay’s defense is as bad as everyone says, which at this point just seems like hearsay, then Bay might be a year from being a full time DH…

I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
Yes, the evidence on Bay is pretty widely acknowledged
As long as all he has to do is play jai lai off the Green Monster, his shortcomings in LF are hidden (as with Manny). But patrolling a larger OF in Anaheim (or Seattle!) would expose his liabilities quickly.
