Pre-cursor to a Halladay trade?
The Angels are interested in trading for Tigers' pitcher Edwin Jackson, according to Foxsports.com. But could this deal help the Angels net Roy Halladay?
- Weaver
- Kazmir
- Jackson
- Saunders
- Santana
Jackson is a good starter, even though he faded big time in the 2nd half of last season (5.00+ ERA after the break). Based on the quick look I gave to his stats, he left some balls up the in the zone in the 2nd half, and he paid for it, giving up more homers and runs over less games than the 1st half. Still, there's a definite upside to this kid, and he's only 26.
Obviously, it's been established that the Blue Jays will want a young starter in return. It's been reported that Saunders and Santana are probably the main targets, but you can add Jackson to that list if we add him. My guess is, we would trade Ervin Santana in a package (probably with Trumbo, Walden and another) for Halladay, making our rotation:
- Halladay
- Weaver
- Kazmir
- Jackson
- Saunders

I like, but
12 teams are in on Jackson apparently, meaning it will be competitive to trade for him. The price of him AND Halladay would be pretty crazy when all is said and done.
RIP Nick Adenhart
right.
i’m just speculating. trading for Jackson would make it easier for us to trade for Halladay, depending on the cost of Jackson
Thank you, Nick Adenhart. You will always be remembered. #34
Yup AND
I’ve read that “a team” is very close to acquiring Jackson. Doubt it’s the Angels right now.
Highly doubtful
That would put two starters on the Angel staff who are Boras clients, each of whom is good as gone once free agency appears.
In addition, Jackson at his best isn’t an equal of Santana at his best. As you said, he fades terribly in the final months of the season, which isn’t a good thing to a team with post-season dreams.
I would seriously doubt the Angels would do more than kick tires with Detroit to see of there is a ridiculously one-sided deal to be made. Anything which costs a genuine prospect wouldn’t be worth it. Jackson is good, he just isn’t THAT good.

What if the Tigers throw in Granderson?
I hear he could be available!

What the hell does Granderson have to do with anything?
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
I am confused.
Is there some possibility that we could pick up Granderson that I have not heard about?
