Boras knows that Beltre has zero to gain by signing a one-year deal and reentering the FA market next Winter. Beltre isn’t getting younger and this is his best shot at one last big payday.
Meanwhile, since Beltre doesn’t cost the team that signs him a single player in compensation, he suddenly became a lot more attractive to more GMs.

I guess that is why the Ms offered the arbitration in the first place, knowing Beltre wouldn’t go for it.
