Mt. Rushmore
I do not know if any of you fellow HHers have voted on ESPNs Mt. Rushmore of sports, but I happened to just make my way over there. To my surprise I found one of the greatest Angels of all time. Our very own Darin Erstad. He got picked for one of top four athletes to come out of North Dakota! So if you guys would love to see Darin Erstad on Sportscenter and his face on a mountain Go Vote!!
Also, if you had the vote what would be your Angels Mt. Rushmore and overall sports Mt. Rushmore?
Mine would be Gene Autry, Tim Salmon, Mike Scioscia, and Nolan Ryan.
Then: Tiger Woods, John Wooden, Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson

As a fellow North Dakotan, I am happy to see Ersty on there
But I must say he is probably our weakest link. Believe it or not, I think our Mt. Rushmore would unexpectedly rank higher than a number of states. I’m sure many of you Laker fans would be surprised to know that Phil Jackson is also from Baja Manitoba. Roger Maris and Lute Olson ain’t bad either….
Olympic gold medalist (boxing) Virgil Hill was probably the most arguable pick to not make it on for us.
My Angel Mt. Rushmore: Bo Belinsky, Bobby Grich, Nolan Ryan, Darin Erstad
Overall: Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Babe Ruth, Johnny Unitas
hmm...
Angels: Autry, Ryan, Salmon, GA
Overall: Pele, Michael Jordan, Martina Navratilova, Babe Ruth
Captain, there are doubt's...

I think it might be the fact
that nobody really pays attention to boxing that much. He didn’t even cross my mind. Now that you mention him I would put him up there. But boxing just is not main streamed anymore like it used to be.

Yours is perfect.
I would have maybe put Downing instead of Autry in my post (and instead of Vlad in yours), but the all-time athletes was dead-on.
I was uncool before uncool was cool.
Don't know...
On second thought, I might put Jim Thorpe instead of either Tiger or Michael (proably instead of Tiger).

If I can only have four. . .
Autry, Fregosi, Ryan, Downing.
These are the four who made me a fan of Angel Baseball and kept me one through the forty (give or take) years in the wilderness.

Because the man
has like 12 nick names and the greatest player of all time. While being drunk out of shape and a pitcher.

Did he really play
against the best possible players of the time period? Many ball players were not even allowed to play because of their skin color.
since 1961
He dominated against
the players he had to play. It is like saying Tiger Woods would not be as good if he played when Jack and Arnie and Hogan played. I agree some of the best players were banned but he did what he did against the competition that was there. The man hit 714 home runs that is a remarkable feat no matter the competition. And his P.E.D was booze not roids, lol.

have u ever heard of barnstoriming ?? Ruth played about 250 games a year and he killed the negro league pitchers he faced… Ruth changed the game and that is why he is the greatest..
There are arguments in favor of that so ...
not sure where you are taking this one…

Please. Let's be serious here
Any all-time Angels list without Grich in the final four is sadly lacking.
This coming from a guy...
…who works “Lazorko” into his screen name. LOL
I don't know...I'm makin' this up as I go.
Angels
Vladdy, Morales, S-Rod, Wood, Kendrick.
At least I hope we will be saying this in a couple years.
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 mountains
Angels: Ryan, Salmon, Scioscia, Moreno
Overall: Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Muhammad Ali
I don't know...I'm makin' this up as I go.
Nolan Ryan, Vladimir Guerrero, Garret Anderson, Jim Fregosi
No doubt I will catch some flak for leaving out the Holy Trinity (Tim Salmon, Brian Downing, and Bobby Grich) from my Angel Mount Rushmore. As an Angel Vladimir Guerrero has had four seasons over 100 rbi. As an Angel Brian Downing had four seasons with over 80 rbi. Garret Anderson had a garden variety game winning hit in Game 7 of the World Series. Tim Salmon was never on an American League All-Star team. Jim Fregosi had more good seasons with the Angels than Bobby Grich. I do have Salmon, Grich, and Downing in my Top Ten Angels list.
I may as well go out to a Baker’s dozen here:
5) Tim Salmon
6) Troy Percival
7) Frankie Rodriguez
8) Chuck Finley
9) Bobby Grich
10) Brian Downing
11) Troy Glaus
12) Darin Erstad
13) Don Baylor
For Mike Scioscia to crack my Top 20 he must manage the Angels to a second World Championship. I have a dental appointment to go to so I will stop here before I upset anybody else!
Jack Lazorko ...
fielded his position like a hockey goalie, and unfortunately pitched like one too. But still one of my all-time favorite Angels. Him and John Montague [for saving our bacon down the stretch in 79] and Lyman Bostock, of course. Us old-timers don’t even have to explain to each other why he’s so admired. And since no one has mentioned Dean Chance, I will here – for beating the Yankees something like 4 times in 1964. Bleep the Yankees.
What about
Ron Romanik, Juan Benequez, “Disco” Dan Ford, and Geoff Zahn?
It is way overdue Arte. #5 needs to be retired by the Angels.
