Just saw this...

Right after I listened to Reagins announce that the player acquisition phase of the off season is over. Something’s in the works…

hmm wonder why it was Green that got the ax though?

Yeah...

The name on the roster that always jumps out at me is Budde. Not that he isn’t a good back-up – it’s just that Bobby Wilson makes him redundant. I was ticked that we had him on the roster but lost Miguel Gonzalez to the Red Sox.

by rghan on Feb 10, 2009 3:59 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

In addition to speculation about Abreu

I also want to tip the hat to Nick Green. He had a rough ride last year, but I think he could still break into the bigs with another team. He’s a great athlete and, by all accounts, has tremendous work ethic. The Padres could be a great fit.
This may also be in his best interest, since returning to Salt Lake could not have done good things for his career.

God (in which ever form you may or may not accept him/her/it)

Please grant me the ability to tune out Ken Rosenthall, Jayson Stark, and anyone else who wishes to get the hopes of the few. For this false hope has at time created rifts between thy brothers and sisters. we now have divisions of epic proportion.

Either that or make the next week go by quickly so we can have some real Angels news from Spring Training Camp

Yeah, but the 112 OPS+ isn't that bad for a road OPS

it’s a bit ugly and one sided, but it’s not he becomes totally inept on the road, a la 07 Ervin.

Wasn't Nick better than Nick last year?

I.e., Green than Adenhart?

Weird that he’d be the one to go…unless he’s about to be packaged shortly after being off the 40-man?

He had a good whip in AA in 2007

I guess I already used my Manny bomb for the month?

by hauldog on Feb 10, 2009 5:07 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Why?

Why Nick Green? If they had to get rid of a pitcher, why not Rich Thompson? What’s he ever going to do? Shane Loux? Or, as others have mentioned, Ryan Budde (redundant what with Bobby Wilson also on the 40-man)?

As for Abreu…excuse me whilst I barf. He’s washed up. Unless it’s for a one-year deal, I’d rather have the much younger Dunn, who’s more likely to hit 30+ HR and have an OPS close to .900.

DEL TACO ALERT

$3 meals are being consumed in mass quantities as we speak. Oh, there might even be a Tuesday evening taco special in which the Ninja might be partaking.

by Downing Rules on Feb 10, 2009 5:28 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

So THAT'S why the signing is today!

I had a $3 meal from Del Taco yesterday.

They had an advertisement in the window saying that crispy shrimp tacos are coming back toward the end of February. I guess I sort of thought any signing would be waiting until then. Maybe Bobby’s not big on shrimp…Kosher perhaps?

(raises hand)

Uh, KJ, is former Angel’s minor league player Nick Green really Jewish?

by Downing Rules on Feb 11, 2009 9:46 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

Was Sean Green a Jew? They called him the Rabbi, while he played in New York, if you recall.

Being waived by the Angels would be devastating to this young guy. I personally cannot believe the Angels would do that for essentially a one year rental. However, to go into any type of racial epithet for Nick is hurtful. He is still an Angel.

by Kristy_Joe on Feb 11, 2009 9:59 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Hey Mrs. SuperSensitiveAsshole

None of the above posters is being racist.

Were all those gentiles singing along in the audience with Adam Sandler’s performance of the Hannukuh song racists too?

To you, the mere mention of the word “Jew” is racist. That’s like saying to utter the word “Arab” or “Viking” is racist.

Stop being such a prick.

by Higz on Feb 11, 2009 10:28 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

you

don’t get it. a player is gonna be removed from the 40 man roster. why start this stupidity? Can’t you keep your song and dance to yourself. It’s not the time to joke about some guy losing his dream, be it Green, Budde, or a trade.

So singing and dancing to a Jew song is inappropriate. Would you like it if you hadda job today and tomorrow you worked as a truck driver or a meat packer? Or were among the millions of unemployed? So show a little dignity.

Guh?

You make johnsamo sound like a genius

by Higz on Feb 11, 2009 11:00 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Nick Green is a good enough pitcher to warrant being picked up elsewhere. The high altitudes didn’t help his numbers last year.

Don’t worry about him, he will get along just fine, especially with that positive outlook he has.

by Downing Rules on Feb 11, 2009 11:02 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

No

s it Bobby Jenks all over again? There’s Conger coming along. Figgins is wanted by the White Sox and are willing to take him along with another player for Dye. GMJ is dead weight.

But pitching in SLC requires quite an adjustment because of the altitude. So the Angels know that and he’s a top prospect, otherwise he wouldn’t be on the 40 man roster.

It’s still pitching and defense that win. What sort of defense does Abreu bring to the table? Why not check out his bat speed before signing him.

Where’s the big bat? Juan Rivera does not get a chance again. What, is Abreu gonna be the DH?

Sure you can argue this acquisition makes the team better, however if the farm system gets hurt then is it really better?

by Kristy_Joe on Feb 11, 2009 11:31 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Dude he is not a top prospect.

Kristy Joe

we are heading to johnsamo territory.

you are the dumbest poster we have had here in a long while.

I have tried to be nice and accomodating without being patronizing, but let me lay it out for you:

You have never once backed down from someone pointing out the irresponsible stupidity from any one of your stupid posts.

In your responses, you bemoan that the world is always wrong and misunderstands perfect kristy joe.

So let me float this new attitude about you for everyone to read and for you to decide your next course of action:

If you are going to be a shrill fucking scold on your high fucking horse we do not fucking want you on this blog.

Chill the fuck out or get the fuck out of here.

by WiHaloFan on Feb 12, 2009 4:47 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Who

is johnsamo?

Why not give examples of the dumbest. I’ll give you examples of yours. What are you 12?

Lookee here. You people spout stats and feel that you are correct with your logic without providing enough variables, sample data, or anything that resembles a statistical model to back up data analysis. So you call me a dumb fuck. O.K.

Look, I don’t bemoan anybody being wrong. I take an adversarial position. Someone should do that. Being a Halo fan isn’t always accepting what’s given as god’s greatest gift. For example, does this rental player with the slower hands and bad defense really warrant putting Juan Rivera back into his usual bench role and outing perhaps Nick Green?

So sure you can call me a dumb fuck all you want and call yourself the collective “we”. And you can lock me out. But you can’t stop me from questioning the obvious shortfalls of this move, namely, will the Angels win the division? Win the League and make it to the WS? Is this the guy to help them do it? Gimme a break. If he were, Cashman would never had let him go.

My family perished in the concentration camps as a result of Hitler. You people think Hitler is a big fucking joke. I can not just blot out the endless daily reminder of the Hitler remark day after day. And I don’t give a crap about Adam Sandler. When I start seeing Jew, I take it personally. I had 11 uncles hanged in 1 day. You did not see your father and mother shot. Yes it’s personal. You were not a slave in a Nazi concentration camp eating potato peels and being raped. You did not build Nazi tanks 16 hours a day in order to live. So people know better. They don’t use the N word, or Hispanic slurs. They should also realize that civility towards others is part of a blog, just as much as accuracy in statistical data.

That’s it chill on the Jews and Hitler and I’ll chill. However, as to the BB side of things there’s always room for discussion even when it cuts against your grain.

I read your posts and think your the biggest dumb fuck for calling this the greatest move since the invention of wonder bread. Sure the guy was great with the Phillies, but rumor has it that his bat speed at the end of the year was way down. The Angels bring him in for a physical, but what about a real test of his current abilities with the bat. Today. Not last year.

Why is it that he was available for a fire sale price? Wouldn’t any other team have given him a better offer?

So sure I’m skeptical. I don’t like giving away any young talent for another rent a player in his declining years. Ron GarGantuan.

So like any other fan, I’ll watch and enjoy.

I think (s)he is talking about the WiHaloFan youtube videos that everyone here celebrates. I have not viewed any one of the videos simply due to Hitler being in them. And I am not even Jewish.

However, one can address the issue of being offended without going off and offending everyone in the process.

by Downing Rules on Feb 12, 2009 4:58 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Really?

You haven’t watched them? I think that’s really interesting and you’ve got a lot of integrity to not watch based on your feelings. I was really torn about making them, and in fact I won’t be making any more.

Just to be clear though, it’s not really Hitler in the videos, it’s a German movie made a couple years ago (and nominated for an Academy award) about the last days of the third reich. I think it’d be completely over the line to glamorize that period of German history.

I was uncool before uncool was cool.

by WiHaloFan on Feb 12, 2009 5:32 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think it matters

Her point is that intent – which, in this case, I think we can all agree is benign – is only half of the equation. Negative impact on the recipient is the other half, something that the speaker’s intent really has nothing to do with. That’s got to be acknowledged as valid, even if, in the end, you disagree with it. Otherwise things end in a mess. Like this thread.

If you wanted people to change what they are doing, your post should have read like this:
“Guys, while I realize you may be joking, some people may be sensitive to this kind of joke. I kindly request that you please refrain from doing this kind of joking from this point onward.”

Your snarky zing at the end of your post “fuck you asshole” really makes people see red and makes them want to piss you off even further.

Sorry

There was no excuse for my behavior. I apologize to you and this blog. Call me K-Fraud.

It is a quote from a song by NIN or Meat Puppets or some other group referring to people that are biased towards homosexuals. I listen to it all the time on my MP3 and it is a song similar to your Chanukah song only in the sense that it is a song and was meant to bite back. I guess you are not familiar with those lyrics.

Look, I drove to Mesa AZ on the 31st of January and returned Monday night. I drove by the Angels facility which is 3 exits from my house on the Superstition Freeway (60). The weather in AZ sucks right now. I was miserable and came home to SoCal. Each storm that keeps blowing in here also moves into the Phoenix area. There has been little sunshine and teeth chattering nights in the valley of the sun. So I was extra grouchy about not staying in AZ as I cannot afford to heat that house. So I have to drive back again. The 380 miles or so, each way.

The point is that all this will go away once baseball starts. I’m just so miserable without baseball and the Angels. Even if it is Physioc.

Sure I have my opinions about the Angels. I love the Angels. I even loved Rupert Jones. Even when he slept in left field. We used to yell Wake up Rupert!

Sure I think Napoli is a way better cleanup hitter than Hunter. And sure I’d like to see Juan play a lot more and Figgins be gone and blah blah blah….but those are my opinions. I just hate the off season.

I have Green’s autograph from Spring Training.

did anyone else hear that David Eckstein won some award from a Jewish group for “outstanding member of the Jewish community” and David is not even Jewish. Kind of funny how someone’s name may lead others to simply assume he is Jewish.
