definitely not trying to be mean/funny
but isnt this sort of old news? i remember reading about this here i wanna say 6+ months ago
Why do people feel like this will make a good movie? Are they going to change it so that the A’s are actually the red sox? And that its actually the 2004 season and not 2002 and that Billy Beane helped break the curse of the bambino? Because really, non-baseball fans are gonna want a happy ending and Mr. Beane-Pitt hasnt won any rings that I know of and the league caught on, thus neutralizing any perceived advantage he had but no longer possesses

happy ending?
Moneyball is a TRAGEDY…
Pitt is playing a serious role of a delusional would-be messiah who thinks he has found the holy grail of baseball with Billy Koch as his closer. See – a tragedy of delusion.
People will not believe it is real … that a tragedy of delusion could afflict such a handsome and intelligent man. It is Don Quioxte with a baseball team and a calculator.

There are windmills in Oakland . . .

HH the new TMZ?
Brad Pitt is just setting himself up for another possible Oscar-winning role since he’s been shut out of any award so far and will likely get no-nod come Oscar time for boring as Ben Buttons.
Brad Pitt wins an oscar for playing Beane. HA! I guess the A’s need to win something.

I wonder if they are going to take some artistic license?
Are they going to switch out Jeremy Brown for Ivan Rodriguez?
Is Chad Bradford going to become Mariano Rivera in the movie?
Or, better yet, are they going to repeat/expand that charade in the book about how brilliant Billy was for taking a flyer on Barry Zito out of USC?

What will draw less people
This movie or an A’s game?

I vote
for the Rev to play Billy Beane with Selma Hayek as his token movie love interest.

Running a Weblog
and porking Selma Hayek are two very different things.
The man isn’t jesus because he can ban obnoxious people.

Salma married a billionaire
But that doesn’t mean there would not be chemistry with such inspired casting…

I'd like to know who would go see it?
There is a lot of hate here against the moneyball thing and while I agree with the fact that it wasn’t the holy grail of baseball….. I thought the book was really good. I NEVER go to the movies anymore but I might go see this. Why? because I like true stories and I LOVE baseball. If an actor I respect such as Pitt would take this role then all the more interest I have in it. I understand how everyone here loves to denounce the money-ball thing….. Its a product of our division rival, and I am in no way here to defend it because I, like all of you am annoyed as anyone by the beane faithful. I just really liked the book and I would go see it. Sounds like it will be cool especially considering those who be behind the movie.

The book was cool but flawed
When you have three aces in their prime you are bound to have a good run… but the proof is in the pudding: the numerology was a myth and deflated once those stud arms were gone.

I agree with the fact that
there were several flaws and the all the saber/numerology crap was way too much…. But, was OBP used as much if ever to evaluate a player prior to Beane and this story? I don’t know thats why I am asking….. If not then there was definitely a major breakthrough there. Think about how important that single statistic is to baseball nowadays. Again, not trying to start a debate here, just curious about when that all came about. I’m pretty sure the whole beane/ricciardi crew were some of the first to use all that and that alone was pretty groundbreaking. Except of course for glorifying Kevin fucking Youkilis.

This movie is supposed to be a comedy right?
Especially with Brad Pitt, over-actor of the past couple decades right?
But seriously, I did enjoy the book…but this will be a terrible movie

The movie should be named "When the A's got really lucky with a crop of prospects"

How do you figure?
The best year of their run ended with the Angels hoisting the World Series Trophy.

That AND the fact that they have finished BEHIND the Halos more often than not since the book came out.

Did I defend the A's and the book's whole philosophy?
No, I didn’t . All I said was that I liked the book. My comment below should clarify as well…..

I meant in reference to what our team has done when it matters, at least in the past couple of postseasons

I agree whole heartedly.
But until we get another one, people will always throw it in our face that we haven’t done shit in the playoffs since then….. and have been there almost every year since.

1 - 0
The Soth’s style of play wins out.
Since 2001, 4 division titles and 1 wild card to 3 divisions and 1 WC for Oakland
Also, way higher attendance.

Um yeah.... okay.
and that matters how in the post season? Thats all my comment was referring to, post season play since 02’. I don’t think I need to clarify that I’m not here to defend the A’s or their philosophy. I’m sold, the angels are better. I did like the book, I would go see the movie, end of story.

Sounds like a blockbuster.
