In WBC News
Venezuela edges the Netherlands 3-1. K-Rod with the save. He looked pretty good.
~Till the Halo burns out...
I know right?
Still, they held Venezuela to fewer runs than the USA did in either game we played against them.
~Till the Halo burns out...
fig forgetting his brain
what a dumb pickoff

deChone not as fast as he used to be.
Recipient of the 2008 "The Iron Man" award from scottnak of Halos Heaven!
Lucky chip shot, but I will take it.
Recipient of the 2008 "The Iron Man" award from scottnak of Halos Heaven!
Some luck, but he was looking outside and trying to go opp-way.
From Jeff, that’s kind of a surprise. All he ever tried to do last year was pull it.
~Till the Halo burns out...
That Bob Dylan/Fugee guy Pepsi commercial
…made me excited and bummed at the same time…
(kinda like the top of the 1st inning)
Willits still rubs his helmet when he reaches base, even in spring training.
Size-wise Morales looks like Tiexeira on first base…..from a distance.
Recipient of the 2008 "The Iron Man" award from scottnak of Halos Heaven!
Do they have radar gun readings?
If yes, what kind of zip does Joe have on the fastball?
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!!
Their radar gun clocked a few pitches at 50.
I don’t think we can depend on it.

The Colonel serves up an RBI
Recipient of the 2008 "The Iron Man" award from scottnak of Halos Heaven!
What???? Why is Joe allowed to swing the bat?
Wasn’t Lackey under instructions not to swing so as to prevent a possible arm injury?
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!!
that is the difference
between a minimum salary starter and a guy negotiating a 5 year, $15 million per year contract.
Probably he was allowed to swing because there were two outs
and a man on third. Can’t give up the scoring opportunity.

TV is just chirpy Cubs announcers.
Recipient of the 2008 "The Iron Man" award from scottnak of Halos Heaven!
They said yesterday that Yocum would examine Ervin "over the weekend"
but it probably hasn’t happened yet.
~Till the Halo burns out...
I fear the worst.
That a tear is found and season-ending surgery is required.

Technically they already found a tear (a sprain is a micro-tear).
The question is how Ervin’s body now responds to being shut down. As far as season-ending surgery, that’s pretty much the worst case scenario. It’s about as likely to happen as Ervin being ready for the start of the season, no DL required.

Sean Rodriguez is showing a lot of potential value today.
Recipient of the 2008 "The Iron Man" award from scottnak of Halos Heaven!
Mathis jammed.
His timing was good though, managed to get a soft line drive.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Regardless, Joe was hitting inside of that spot, same height, and still getting balls called.
~Till the Halo burns out...
S-Rod plunked, followed by Brown, also plunked.
Think Marmol is still rattled by the Netherlands loss?
~Till the Halo burns out...
Of course, it helps if you swing.
Jeez Bourjos. Those didn’t look like strikes to me either, but if the ump is calling them there, you gotta at least try to swing.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Making fun of the name
Cubs announcers: “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is TOO confusing.”
You wonder if these guys dropped out of grade school when math got to division or made it into decimals and fractions…
Back when we were the California Angels
They made fun of it because “LOL, there’s 5 teams in California.” It’s almost a mark of pride by now.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Just checked the box...
Saunders with an RBI? The hell?
http://inplaynoouts.blogspot.com/ - A blog about teams I like, written by me.
It was hilarious.
Saunders out of the game. 4 innings 3 hits, 1 walk, 1 K. Nice Job.
Fuentes in, it’ll be nice to get a bead on him.
~Till the Halo burns out...
I just saw K-Rod pitch in the Netherlands vs Venezuela game.
Fuentes just isn’t as much fun to watch. :-(
Looked good though.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Rosenthal lamented Brandon's plight in a column yesterday
I didn’t realize Brandon has only one option year left.
Meh.
I don’t see Wood being sent down this year. I really think he’s on track to earn a spot on the team.
~Till the Halo burns out...
If he keeps hitting, keeps the ks down, he's got an argument for starting SS.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Ugh!
if Wood is our DH…what does our OF look like? :( please say it ain’t so…

what about Rivera?
There are three things in my life which I really love: God, my family, and baseball. The only problem - once baseball season starts, I change the order around a bit. -- Al Gallagher
That's the rub.
Rivera is a guy I like and want to see play. But if it came down to it, Wood is the 24 year old and the future. I’d rather see him out there myself, assuming he can keep this up.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Why isn't Riveria in there
I thought Abreu was DH’ing & filling in for Riveria. Anyone know for sure?
still gotta think there is a trade in the not too distant future…too many bodies…

Plunkett cleared up the whole Brandon Wood dilemna yesterday
Good grief…

He seems to have let Mike walk him off the subject of what happens to Wood.
And the subject of a possible DH role never seems to have come up.
~Till the Halo burns out...
not a very good defensive OF for a team built on pitching...
:((

2-1 Cubs.
Still first and third. Cubs regulars are beating up on our minor leaguer. :(
~Till the Halo burns out...
This guy Palmer is not foooling anyone!
F’Ugly!
Q looked pretty stiff on that clank…and made the cardinal sin of trying to pick the ball up off the ground with his glove instead of his bare hand! BAD Q!

I really like the idea of Brown being our Q...
unfortunately they are paying Q pretty well!

as do i
but Q ain’t going anywhere… mostly because he PWNS lefties! :P

a trade of Eybar, Figgy, and Mice Tits would open up SS and 3b...
for Woodie and Brownie!

i meant a starting pitcher
and 2007 was a fluke year.

true
but I’d take Abreu/Howie at the top over Figgy, if it meant getting Wood everyday ABs
Kotch would've had that.

Yeah, I might too, but I don't think Mike is in favor of losing the speed at the top of the lineup.
~Till the Halo burns out...
God forbid we change a tad, huh?

Radio says we are close to seeing Anthony Ortega pitch in a spring game soon!
That should be fun to see…can’t wait! Sure wish they would televise more of these damn things!

I think im going to break something if Wood isnt starting on opening day
really, make it happen Tony/Soth
I don’t expect what I am seeing this spring, but the kid must get a good chance…let him play everyday damnit!

exactly
after last spring we could all see WHY he wasnt getting ABs. he was lost
after this, what more does he have to do? three seasons at AAA? Talk about wasting a prospect
by ihearhowie2.0 on Mar 14, 2009 3:30 PM PDT up reply actions
This is a whole different guy from last spring.
Hell, a whole different guy from the one we saw as a late season callup. This is the guy who exploded in the second half of AAA last year, cutting way down on his K’s and upping his walks.
~Till the Halo burns out...
and the guy who's power
exploded as well.
he looks like he belongs in the bigs.
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Mar 14, 2009 3:39 PM PDT up reply actions
The power was always there.
The question was whether he could consistently apply it to the ball.
~Till the Halo burns out...
but how does he get ABs?
stud 24 year olds shouldnt have to wait for an injury to play. He needs a spot alotted to him.
we just have one too many players and its frustrating. Riveras here for three years and only signed because he thought he’d play everyday..so he’s got to.
the only way he plays will be because of injury and thats not fair to him

Figgy, Eybar, Q, and a minor leaguer for Roy Halliday or Jake Peavy!
