Angels Beat Cubs in Mesa
Final Score in Mesa: Angels 6, Cubs 4
THE GOOD: Joe Saunders, 4 IP, 0R, 3H, 1K, 1BB
THE BAD: That strike zone afforded Cubs reliever Carlos Marmol
THE UGLY: Figgy V. Wood heats up with both Chone Figgins and Brandon Wood showing up, bat in hand (and on the ball) for this game.
There is a reason Angels pitching prospect Matt Palmer has jersey #90. He surrendered all 4 Cubs runs (3 earned, the other from a Robb Quinlan bobble), but Matt Brown and the boys pulled it out. Cubs Lose!

Double and a walk for Wood.
He now has struck out just twice in 30 plate appearances. Huge difference from where he was last spring.

Also, a tidbit
In the 9th, there were two #12s out there, with Bourjos in CF, and Browning on the mound.

Play Wood at SS
Figgy at third. Aybar and Izzy have to fight for time
If Wood is as good as they have been telling us, we have to let him play. Unless the Spankees give us hughes for Figgy, go with the offense.
GA GA he's the man, if he can't do it, no one can
Q's D at third
Left…. something to be desired.
I was sitting about halway between third and the wall, two rows in.

Performances
Figgy did great. Two doubles off of a Mets starting pitcher. I guess Heilman is locking down a starting job with his 1.80 era for spring. He actually hasn’t been a starter since 2003.
Iz racked Marmol for a 3b. Marmol: 1 ip with 2 so and 1 hit. That man throws so’s like nobody’s business. May be their best reliever.
Joe is still being Joe. Nice work.
Wood? Looking good. Can’t wait to see him in the last two weeks of spring training against solid pitching. Needs to prove he belongs in the bigs.
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

I know
It’s the last two weeks that I will be judging the Wood.
