Percy is the man BUT...
Troy Glaus’s performance in the ’02 postseason was in a word, SUBLIME
I vote for the MVP

I know, I know
I should have read more carefully; it’s making me reconsider. But I’ll stick by my choice. It’s perfectly justifiable. I love Percival, but without Troy we don’t win the World Series.

nice statement...
since they are BOTH named Troy! ;)
But, you are right — without EITHER Troy, we don’t win the series.

Percy
Overall hero. Golden boy….no tarnished images
Glaus? tarnished (alcohol/‘roids), 2002 was a great year…but that’s pretty much it.

I voted Glaus.
Extra credit for the World Series MVP, otherwise it would clearly be Percy.

Percy
He played for the Angels longer and had more productive seasons with the Angels than Glaus.
I appreciate Glaus for his 2002 World Series contributions and his 2000 and 2001 regular seasons, but after that magical 2002 he spent way more time on the DL than on the field during his final 2 seasons with the Halos.

I never saw a guy look so sad...
…as Percy did when he signed with Detroit (2005?). He wanted to stay loyal to the Angels. Too bad he couldn’t overcome his health issues at that time. Besides, K-Rod was ready…

Here's an interesting tidbit about Percy though--
Of the three teams he’s played with since leaving, two of them have reached the World Series, two of them propelled there in part by a marked improvement in their bullpen, especially among the young guys. In both cases, the actual players involved gave Percival much of the credit for the turn around.
What I’m trying to say here is that the minute Percival retires for real, we need to put him on the coaching staff.

I thought he showed up at the Angels spring training after he originally had "retired"

I think he did in 2007.
After “retiring” after the 2006 season. It was at spring training where he realized that he could throw 93 again, IIRC.

Yeah according to his Wikipedia entry,
we hired him as a minor league pitching instructor in January 2007. Good call us. Do it again the next time he retires.
I also liked this bit:
Though the he didn’t pitch a game during the Tigers’ run to the American League Championship, the team voted Percival a ring and a full playoff share. Appreciative of this gesture, he used the money to buy a suite at Comerica Park for the Tigers’ wives.
Somewhere on the internet is an interview with a Tigers reliever who gives Troy a bunch of the credit for helping to turn the bullpen around.

He could have used the money...
to buy the ENTIRE downtown area of Detroit back then … I think fifty bucks takes that chunk of property nowadays.

There is sadly some truth in this.

I voted for Glaus
While it seems like Percival had more of an influence in the organization and he is held in higher regard because of the respect factor, Glaus was once a potential franchise position player for the team.
Because of various injuries – everything wasn’t roses with Glaus, but he ended up winning a home run crown in 2000 and also was the 2002 World Series MVP.

Better post-game interview after Game 7...
hence, I choose Percival.
