Don't forget the distoriting effects of the 2000 season on stats

That was one of the biggest offensive spike years in American League history. The team hit 236 home runs, and set franchise records for OBP and SLG, yet finished only 7th in the league in runs. Win Shares, which corrects for league and park contexts, puts Glaus’ 2000 nowhere near the Top 5. Looks more like this (adjusted for 162-game seasons):

1) 32.8 Fregosi 1970
2) 32.5 Salmon 1995
3) 31.7 Vlad 2007
4) 30.8 Grich 1981
5) 29.8 Erstad 2000
6) 29.5 Vlad 2004
7) 28.9 Salmon 1997
8) 28.7 Baylor 1979
9) 28.4 Grich 1979
10) 28.3 Johnson 1970

Troy’s 2000 is at 25.0.
10) 28.1 AP 63 cf

that is why he is 14th and not 5th

Thanks for posting this list Rev....

I have a soft spot for Troy for obvious reasons, but Stoneman was right to let him walk. Although I can’t help but wonder what his 2004 could’ve been without injury. 18 HR in 207 AB and, unless my memory is fading, he led the league in HR for 2 weeks after he was hurt early in the season.

Makes me even more confident that this guy will be an MVP candidate this season.

And that is (one of the reasons) why Fregosi should be # 1!

(Personal Opinion)

Of course Troy (Glaus) was a fan favorite and optimal performer who came through for us in the World Series. Big time.

Hard to beat that.

Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

You'll always have Game 6, Troy.

Plugging the upside since 2006.

His 2-run double was a thing of beauty. Crushed the ball and crushed the Giants World Series dreams.

The thing a lot of people forget is that he also STARTED the comeback with his single in the 7th.

He really went nuts that postseason and in 2004 too. I still wonder what might have been in that series had Glaus NOT been called out on a pitch that was clearly a foot and half outside with the bases loaded.

40+ HR mark

It was nice to finally see an Angel reach that mark during the juiced years. Fitting that it was Glaus that did it.

Yeah...

we’d been sitting on Reggie Jackson’s franchise record of 39 forever!!
