World Series 2002 Game 7
FSW is replaying game 7 in its entirety right now. Wow troy glaus looked pretty formidable here. I miss Erstad/Salmon/Anderson already. Heck I miss the flying molina brothers already. I've never seen these despite being an angel fan in 95-99, then i kind of fell out of baseball since i was a dumb freshmen of high school. I think FSN did game 6 last year? can't wait to see percival in action

They actually re-played game 6 last week.
I think what a forgot most of all was the sheer determination of Darrin Erstad. Whether batting or fielding, the guy was the picture of intensity. I cannot think of a current Angel that has that “whatever it takes…even if it means steamrolling my mom” kind of focus.

Troy Glaus at shortstop
In 2002 World Series Game 7 top of the 4th inning with the Angels leading 4-1, one out and nobody on the Angels employ a Ted Williams/Willie McCovey/David Ortiz shift on Barry Bonds. Angel third baseman Troy Glaus is positioned about eight feet to the third base side of second base, effectively at the shortstop position. Bonds grounds a hard shot to Glaus’ right. Glaus dives, fields the ball, but throws high to first base as Bonds beats out an infield single.
I recall back in an August 1966 in a game at Candlestick where the Giants were losing 9-4 to Cincinnati in the 9th inning that Willie Mays led off with a single. My grandfather Othmar complimented Mays for playing for the team and for a better chance for a win by going for a single instead of a home run. This 2002 WS Game 7 infield single by Bonds was a hit for the team, not a hit for Barry. Garret Anderson was the star leftfielder in this game with his bases clearing double in the third inning.
And yes, watching the replay I winced when Troy Glaus got hit on his right hand by Livan Hernandez to load the bases and set the stage for Anderson.

That was Salmon that got hit on the hand in the 4th inning...right before the big hit by GA.

I stand corrected
“As you were!” TSGT Wolfe would say in basic training after he made a misstatement. Yes, it was Tim Salmon who was hit by the pitch to load the bases in the bottom of the third inning.
Ex-Angel J.T. Snow had a good Game 7 going 3-for-4 with a double. Snow had a table setting single to right field off of Troy Percival to lead off the ninth inning. Snow made a diving stop to grab a hard grounder by Brad Fullmer down the first baseline in the bottom of the eighth inning. In the second inning Snow had an opportunity to stretch a single into a double on his line drive into rightcenter. Nobody was covering second base when Snow slammed on the brakes and retreated to first base. It was much better that Snow got the game ball in Game 1 (with a 2-run home run, a falling down catch of a foul pop-up, and a pull the batboy son of Dusty Baker out of rhe way just before a close play at the plate) than in Game 7. The game ball for Game 7 went to Garret Anderson for his game winning hit. John Lackey was a close second. Not to worry, there was champagne for all!

One of my favorite moments that I'd forgotten
Learning that Dusty Baker never told his boys there’s no crying in baseball.
If GA wasn't so Lazy, I'd have something clever here.
