NICE! Any velocity readings on Adenhart?

What's the word on Adenhart's chances of making the rotation?
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!!
Given that Moseley is out of options
It seems more likely that the Angels will take Dustin and Loux.

That makes sense.
Also, it seems that Loux is impressing The Soth. Plus given last year’s performance, regular starts in AAA would be beneficial for Adenhart.

Loux has impressed ME, that's for sure.
After his outings from the bullpen last season, plus his pretty good AAA numbers, and of course his great spring, I’d like to give him a shot.
~Till the Halo burns out...
yeah
Dustin still scares me, but I wouldn’t mind giving Loux a few starts.
who knows? maybe by midseason, Adenhart and Wood will have some roster spots
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Mar 21, 2009 2:22 PM PDT up reply actions
Adenhart I'm willing to give another season in AAA.
Especially once Escobar gets back, pitching spots will be hard to come by. Besides which, the guy’s 22. His warranty won’t expire for a while yet.
Wood has nothing left to prove in AAA and is 24. It’s time to see what he’s got, for better or for worse.
~Till the Halo burns out...
agreed
I’m okay with Adenhart in AAA for another year… as long as it helps him.
sending Wood back down is plain stupid
Kotch would've had that.

loux
is not long term. put him in the pen.
adenhart is the definition of long term.

And they expect people to pay money for this product during the regular season.

why fight it?
adenhart is destined for the rotation this year
by TheAngelsAngels on Mar 21, 2009 1:55 PM PDT reply actions
lame!
the call, not the Juanito.
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Mar 21, 2009 2:19 PM PDT up reply actions
There are worse fates. :)
But I don’t know. Morales and Kendrick can put up a lot of offense over a full season if they put their minds to it.
~Till the Halo burns out...
I'm hoping HK steps it up this year. I still can't gauge where K-Mo is at.
In 2007 (a season where he suffered broken bones in his hand), HK posted an OPS of .797. It would be a huge plus for the Angels to have a decent defensive 2B like HK who can post (just throwing out numbers, though doable #s for HK) .325/.355/.455

i think those numbers are within reason
given a full season
Kotch would've had that.

Abreu
is in Venezuela – he will help a LOT this season with those low-scoring games – with his bat AND his glove.
Oh oh. Guess my previous post is now being put to the test. :)

i really like Wilson
have for a couple years… it’s too bad we cant give him a spot.
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Mar 21, 2009 2:36 PM PDT up reply actions
The sad part is he'd arguably be better than Mathis.
Though for offense Naps has him beat cold.
~Till the Halo burns out...
I don't know if the organization really believes Conger will stay a catcher.
He hasn’t been able to stay healthy in three seasons playing there. They may decide to move him to first or maybe left.
~Till the Halo burns out...
shifting him to the OF would not be a bad idea
i’m starting to wish they’d do that with Napoli
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Mar 21, 2009 2:56 PM PDT up reply actions
Unfortunately it'd be too much hassle to switch Naps.
It’s possible for Conger because he’s still in the minors.
~Till the Halo burns out...
yeah probably
but it would give him a permanent (non-platoon) spot and relieve some of the wear and tear.
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Mar 21, 2009 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions
for sure
I haven’t heard anything bad about Wilson’s D, and his bat in AAA has been good.
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Mar 21, 2009 2:40 PM PDT up reply actions
game 2, right?
i give it another 5-6 games
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Mar 21, 2009 2:37 PM PDT up reply actions
right
i was just throwing out a guess
Kotch would've had that.

by TheAngelsAngels on Mar 21, 2009 2:40 PM PDT reply actions
I wish the Angels would give Wood some spring training game starts at 1B
The team seems overconfident that there is no way that K-Mo could flop.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!!
You've got to be kidding me.
Are you serious?

'Fraid so. :-P
But I hear you on Morales. We’ve been told that he has .300 30-30 potential for so long without any real proof it’s easy to wonder if maybe we should have a backup plan.
Though I’ll note that Matt Brown has been getting a lot of 1B work this spring, and he may be our fallback position.
~Till the Halo burns out...
after Quinlan, of course. ;)
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Mar 21, 2009 2:56 PM PDT up reply actions
I seriously doubt Q will still be here after this season though.
Brown is essentially Robb Quinlan 6 years ago. It’s funny how statistically similar their careers in the minors have been.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Bullshit
Show me one single .300 30-30 prediction. Seriously, the Internet is huge, it must contain one. Don’t Jack Howell this guy.
Well to start with
There’s this article from Baseball Prospectus immediately after we got him. I don’t have access to the whole article, but what’s there seems pretty self explanatory.
Then there’s Mike Scioscia a week ago, who gives him a shot at 30 homers.
This guy gives him a shot at .280+ avg with 25 homers, 90 RBI.
Just in general, there were some scouts who were really high on Morales and thought .300 30-30 was a definite possibility. I read so many Angels articles every year I couldn’t tell you exactly where to find them. Hopefully these three links tell you I’m not just pulling numbers out of the air… there are serious baseball people who think and have thought Morales could do something in that range.

have the announcers said anything about wood yet?
by TheAngelsAngels on Mar 21, 2009 2:56 PM PDT reply actions
he's playing in an intra-squad game
along with Aybar, Napoli, Oliver and others today.
but i saw that somewhere else… cant remember where.
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Mar 21, 2009 3:00 PM PDT up reply actions
We're pretty certain his omission was an error.
He’s back on the 40-man.
~Till the Halo burns out...
I was at the game today.
Before the game, Wood was working out with the other AAAA players (Napoli, S-Rod, Mathis and others) on the practice field directly west of the stadium.
Scioscia was running these guys through various drills, and then some pre-game BP.
BTW, Peter Gammons was also an observer.

The weird part is his stuff hasn't changed all that much from 2007
He just can’t locate anymore.

loux should get speiers job
and speiers should get bootcheck innings
by TheAngelsAngels on Mar 21, 2009 3:19 PM PDT up reply actions
i say now
adenhart and mose in the rotation, loux taking speiers job (last year/6th inning).
or when the starters get back
by TheAngelsAngels on Mar 21, 2009 3:26 PM PDT up reply actions
The mistake was when he dove for the ball and missed, letting the runner get to third.
~Till the Halo burns out...
was it
way beyond aggressive or something?
by TheAngelsAngels on Mar 21, 2009 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions
Hud felt it was a bad idea given the situation.
Let it drop, take it on a hop, it’s a single. Dive and miss, the winning run is 90 ft away.
~Till the Halo burns out...
I know you're the D-Team, but it would be cool to come back and win this one guys.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Smith triples!
Nobody out in the bottom of the 10th.
Whoa, Mighty Mouse is still in. Sorry about calling you D-Team Maicer.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Nuts Mighty Mouse grounds out.
But Rosario comes through! A single up the middle brings in Smith! 4-4!
~Till the Halo burns out...
Quinlan with the base hit!
Rosario around second to third. 1st and 3rd, one out.
