Looks like our whole lineup is in there.

Napoli would be in for Mathis if he could catch, but one wonders if he’ll be able to by the start of the season.

1-0 Dodgers.

Believe it or not

Matthews

With Abreu gone, Rivera is your DH, HGH is LF or vice-a-versa

by SoCalWine on Mar 23, 2009 1:18 PM PDT up reply actions

You know...

that makes a hell of a lot of sense.

LF – Matthews
2B – Kendrick
DH – Guerrero
CF – Hunter
RF – Rivera
1B – Morales
C – Napoli
SS – Wood
3B – Brown

That makes me happy. If we don’t re-sign Vlad then maybe moving Naps to DH and moving Conger up to Catch

by Jay Cal on Mar 23, 2009 1:39 PM PDT up reply actions

We don't seem to be trying to retain Vlad or Lackey.

I can only assume that means we plan to make a play at either Holliday or Bay.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Mar 23, 2009 1:25 PM PDT up reply actions

based on lackeys previous comments

i dont think we have a chance in hell resigning him. sure we added a bat in abreu but he wont be here for the long haul. so this season is our last seeing lackey in an Angels Uni.

i think vlad will take less money to stay here, he is a “mommies” boy and his mom likes the organization…

There is an "Angel in the outfield" and his name is GA! ps. he is lazy but not a bum GO HALOS!

by wallispdub1 on Mar 23, 2009 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions

That was my point.

I’m not sure an outfield leadoff guy is really in the cards. It’s also not clear from the noises being made right now that GMJ will still be here next season.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Mar 23, 2009 1:28 PM PDT up reply actions

He could. I kind of like him in the second position.

He tends to not take enough pitches for a leadoff guy. Maybe that’ll change this year though.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Mar 23, 2009 1:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Hopefully Aybar

That would mean he has a breakthough season

by KOBEBOY24 on Mar 23, 2009 1:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep.

We’ve got like 7 guys with potential for a breakthrough this year. Hopefully at least a few of them do it.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Mar 23, 2009 1:43 PM PDT up reply actions

We Need

a few of them, but the more the better, like Arte said, its time to let the young guys play, and I hope they make that happen

by halofan1 on Mar 23, 2009 1:44 PM PDT up reply actions

The sad part is that we can't let all of them play all at once.

Right now it seems like S-Rod, Wood and Brown get to play the waiting game in SLC.

~Till the Halo burns out...

I dont think

Sean Rodriguez will ever find a spot thinking long term.

by KOBEBOY24 on Mar 23, 2009 1:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Not unless we move him to the outfield.

There look to be some spots opening there in the near future.

Yes

by 44FAN on Mar 23, 2009 2:32 PM PDT reply actions

DANG!

Mathis is fighting for that Catching spot. Too bad Napoli will be starting the year on the DH.

by Jay Cal on Mar 23, 2009 2:33 PM PDT reply actions

M A T H I S

Auditioning for the Yankees? Lackey and Mathis to the Yankees for Phil Hughes and Nick Swisher, Trade Figgins to the White Sox for prospects and flip Swisher and Matthews for more prospects.

What? Yes, I have had my coffee, why?

by Rev Halofan on Mar 23, 2009 2:37 PM PDT reply actions

That might not be so bad.

With Conger waiting in the wings to fill that catching spot, locking up Huges for a few years for a rental on Lackey… I like it.

But who would be willing to take on Swisher’s or Matthews contract?

by Jay Cal on Mar 23, 2009 2:40 PM PDT up reply actions

seeing as we wont be able to resign lackey

by wallispdub1 on Mar 23, 2009 2:43 PM PDT up reply actions

My only fear is...

Lackey plus the Yankee rotation could end up being the team to keep us from advancing to the World Series.

by Jay Cal on Mar 23, 2009 2:48 PM PDT up reply actions

i too share that fear

but we all know (just a guess but..) he wont resign with us… so we might as well get more than 2 draft picks for him.

ZU- what team out there has the payroll room to take on a swisher/matthews type contract with prospects worthy of such a trade???

Swisher is more dealable than Matthews because he's a better player.

What are we talking about prospect-wise?

I’d also like to add that no way in hell will any of that ever happen.

Everything seems to be happening too quickly. I appreciate that Escobar is a hard worker, but I hope he slows it down a bit and takes it a little bit easy. Remarkable that he’s already throwing mid-90s.
