Organizational Rankings: #10
Today, we launch the top ten, heading towards the top spot and closing out this series. All of the teams that we discuss this week are legitimate contenders for both this year and the future, and these are the organizations that the rest of baseball is chasing . . . .

Look who wrote the article
Not that Dave Cameron is intentionally being biased, but he’s never been overly sympathetic to the Halos. Plus I think the Angels don’t provide a good barometer for their methods of evaluation of talent.
You know, I'd complain that we're this far back
but I’m honestly surprised they even ranked us ahead of the other AL West teams. The projection systems these guys use don’t like the Angels, never have, never will. We’ll just have to win anyway.

I agree
Yeah the talent, both minor and major, evaluations are somewhat skewed against the angels. However, I think we get major bump because of Arte which is why we’re in front of the other AL West teams.
My biggest issue is the front office rankings, which seems just off. Seriously the Mariners and Rangers FO = B and the Halos a B-? I especially like the rose-colored analysis of the Mariners which is all about the potential and past track record. I guess the default grade for essentially making minor moves in the off-season is a B? As for the Rangers, the article makes some good points, but, unlike the Angel FO analysis, fails to mention of the major FA busts the rangers have had under Daniels. If it’s pure trades, then maybe a B, but come now Kevin Millwood anyone?
Snore........the proof is in the records........
and the Halos the last few years is more like top 5………
whatever.

Thats why
they play the game. As long as Scoscia is our manager I will never be worried about our success.
Give the young guns a chance...if they suck wellll...
Chone Figgins is our second-best hitter?
Their two best hitters are aging fairly quickly, and both are free agents at the end of the year.
You know, I’m pretty confident that Mike Napoli will be a better offensive player than Chone Figgins tihs year. As will Howie Kendrick, Torii Hunter, and others….
There’s this weird underestimation of the Angels’ system these days, because everyone acts as if Brandon Wood and Sean Rodriguez and Kendry Morales have already arrived. Yet we haven’t seen any as a regular player yet, and there’s plenty of upside.
Also, Jeff Mathis is among the better backup catchers in the big leagues.
Group think
It’s been an education watching baseball writers trot out the same glib dismissals of our system this year, time and again.
I dunno about the # 10 ranking but I agree for the most part.
Our outfield is a geriatric ward and while we have a gang of young and exciting guys on the team and in the minors, there is no one who is guaranteed to be a standout superstar or even a solid starter. That is not to say that none of them won’t pan out—Aybar, Wood, Arrondondo look like they’ll be around for awhile—but none of them are a sure thing yet.
What I disagree with are the teams that are ahead of us.
Rays? Braves? Diamondbacks? Brewers? Indians?
These don’t seem right but I will save my lack of knowledge and let the likes of Welch and Rghan explain why we deserve a higher ranking over these guys.

Like the myth about Bumblees not having the physics to fly...
if your math consistently does not square with reality, it’s time to go back and check your math.
