Garland blames catchers
The article says...
He said it was a case of throwing too many bad pitches. He suggested a lack of consistency with his battery mate also played a part.
"I think I threw to the same catcher consecutively four times, maybe five times at the most," he said. "There might have been a stretch where something was working real good for me, and they're switching back and forth and call two different games."

Sorry, Jon, what was that?
I couldn’t hear what you were saying over all the hits being sprayed around the ballpark. Maybe if you tried missing a bat every now and again, we could conduct a proper interview.
I feel the need, the need...for speed!

so is garland retarded or something? he doesnt know what pitch to throw in what situation?
he cant look off a pitch he doesnt want to throw? are you kidding me
Me likey the Internet.....
because I can prove guys like Garland wrong. Simply going to Garland’s Yahoo page, you can look up every start he made in 2008. While Garland is correct about shifting catchers early in the season, in the last half of the season, he had nothing but consistency from his catchers – Jeff Mathis caught Garland’s 18th through 24th starts (seven starts in a row) while Napoli caught Garland’s last eight starts (starts 25 through 32). So in those final 14 starts where Garland had a 6.58 ERA, he had nothing but consistency from his catchers – first Mathis, then Napoli.
But how did Garland fare when he had the same catcher as the last start – AKA the consistency he craved? – he went 8-6 with nine No-decisions.
When Garland had a new catcher, i.e. someone catching him who was different from the previous starting catcher, he was 6-2 with one No-decision.
So you could argue that Garland was more successful when he had to throw to a new catcher – different from the one he threw to in the last game – based on Won and Loss records. I did not get a chance to crunch the numbers regarding ERA but since Garland posted a 6.58 ERA with the consistent catchers at the end of the season, I would argue that when the Angels switched catchers on Garland, he was a better pitcher.
Now can we forget about this guy?

awesome research
terrible paragraph breaks but awesome research.
Jon should be whining about that missing H in his first name.
If Jon reduced the agonizing time between his pitches
and wandering around on the mound, I am sure it would help out his catcher some.
Recipient of the 2008 "The Iron Man" award from scottnak of Halos Heaven!
Not enough time at Goathill Tavern with Jeff and Mike...
Sounds like he spent too much time with Lovieanne. I might have chosen the way he did, too. Although, with my excellent hindsight I would have gone to arbitration with the Halos. You lose, Jon. Too bad.

He'd probably blame the sawdust on the Tavern floor for slipping and pulling a groin,
thus contributing to his suckiness last year.
Give it a rest, Judy. Your only plus is the ability eat innings
while giving up around league average runs. You’ve had one really good season as a fulltime starter. It’s not the Angels fault you didn’t play well in a contract year.
Plugging the upside since 2006.
Never give up, never surrender!
this article honestly made me gag
i used to now be able to believe the mount of hits he would give up. Even my girlfriend hated him and she doesnt know shit about baseball. He was just unbelievable annoying to watch. So many hits. so. many. hits.
Meanwhile saunders and ervin made the all star game out of no where. lackey had a great year too. only this ass sucked. At the end, he was literally the worst player on the team.

No shit.
He was brilliant in that postseason.
As was that whole staff vs. the Halos.
That was a bummer of a series.
Jim Scully
...which, along with JG's performance in the World Series, probably contributed to "Ninja's" making the trade.
As I said at the time, the Angels are trading for past World Series glory.
Next he'll blame the barometric pressure in AZ as the root of his problems
But, hey, at least it could be said that he threw better batting practice last year than Dino Ebel.
Good riddance, Judy!
