Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Proud

I don't know if this post has a purpose, or a point for that matter, but I have a lot of thoughts running through my head and I wanted to share them with you all.

I don't know about everyone else, but I went into the game not really knowing how I was going to feel or what to expect from our organization for that matter.

Watching our Halos honor Nick before and during the game made me so proud to be an Angels fan.  The outfield wall picture, the flags half mast, the patch, the jersey and the video they showed were all just material things that our organization did to remember Nick, but that's not what impressed me most.  Torii running out to Center field and patting Nick's picture, Jared writing Nick's initials in the mound, hanging Nick's jersey in the dugout, seeing nearly every team member had some sort of NA34 on their hat somewhere touched me in a way I won't forget for the rest of my life.  It showed that our organization is a tight family, there is no one person above another.  They might go out there and play baseball as a team, but behind closed doors they live together in that clubhouse as a family.

Last night truly showed that our fans, our team and our organization are the best in baseball.  I'm so proud that my mom took me to an Angel game when I was 6 instead of a Dodgers game.  I'm so proud Wally Joyner waited for an hour after one game and signed balls for every kid simultaneously making me a fan for life.  I'm so proud I got to know Nick for the four years he was with our organization.  Most of all though, I'm so proud to be a member of the Angel's family.

We'll miss you Nick, but we'll always be proud that you will forever be an Angel.

Such a good story man

And I agree, I have never been more proud to be an Angel fan than last night.

I loved seeing “NA 34” on their hats as well. I also loved the picture of him on the wall in center field as well as the “34” on the pitching mound.

I loved how special it was when Weaver pointed up to the sky after pitching a wonderful game. I loved how happy the fans and the team were after Scot Shields ended the game.

And I especially loved how many flowers were placed on the brick mound in front of Angel Stadium, and all the well made signs so many fans made remembering Nick. So many fans such as ourselves cared about the loss of Nick and cared about the loss of two others in that accident.

Although it was a day of grieving, it was also a day of rejoicing. For the Angels won a great game for Nick and his loved ones.

So much love was felt yesterday and I have a feeling that the whole organization is changed forever.

I have never been more proud to be a fan of the greatest organization in existence.

I was - and am still - in a state of mind not fully open to the resumption of "normal activities"...

…yes, the show must go on. Yes, life goes on. We cannot mourn forever.
I appreciate you sharing your impressions of the game. Your words carry a lot of weight in getting back to somewhere close to “normal”. Thanks for posting this…and take care.

I'm still trying to come to grips with this.

Wednesday April 8th is a day I will always remember. It was my first Angel game of the year, and I feel both blessed and torn, between pride and sorrow. Proud, because I was privileged to see Nick’s stellar performance through six innings of shutout baseball, a gem of a game that will no doubt become legendary due to the horrific outcome, and sorrowful beyond comprehension, due to what may have been. Truth be told, in terms of emotions, I feel almost as I did when Donnie Moore passed away. I think, I feel this more, because, when Donnie died, I felt the loss as a young man, and Halo fan. With Nick, I feel the loss as a fan, but more so as a father of two teenage sons. Everyday is a blessing, my kids bring me joy, and I find comfort with you, my fellow Halo fans.

YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
