Do you guys score games?

I was just wondering if anyone else but me scores the game when they go to the ballpark. I find it relaxing and it's always nice to look back on the games later on (even though sometimes you have to relive some bad memories). It seems to me that scoring has become almost a lost art - I never see anyone scoring at the game anymore. So I was curious to see if any HHers still did this.

so funny that you posted this

i was just going to post something along these lines.

i decided to score every game i watch/listen to this year because i didnt know how to score. So i spent some time figureing it out. i figure every baseball fan should know how to do it.

and i agree, it is relaxing, and nice to be able to look back during the game, and also back to previous games.

I don't

but my brother does. He buys a scorebook at the beginning of the season and scores every game he goes to (which every home game but Sundays (church) and Thursday nights — he works). He keeps those books season to season. A little obsessive for my tastes.

GA GA he's the man, if he can't do it, no one can

But I’m not sure how to score everything. I think I know most of it… I think :(

I have nothing important to say.

google it

that is what i did. plus most score books come with a crash course on how to do it.

and if you sitll have problems, just come on one of the game threads and i am sure someone here can answer how to score something.

I've already started googling!

Thanks.

I have nothing important to say.

One of my favorite things about keeping score

Is that everybody does it a little different. It’s all about personal style and shorthand and it’s fun to read other people’s score books.

I also used to keep score for my softball team which was tough since I was the only guy on the team that knew how. I had the highest OBP on the team so as you can imagine, yelling scoring decisions into the dugout from second base would get a little annoying.

My favorite part of keeping score for the team however, was that the whole team was full of shit talkers that needed someone to put them in their place when they’d claim they were hitting .500 with 12 home runs.

Every one I go to

I always score, and in fact I bring my own scoresheets because the ones they publish at the park suck. I use the Enhanced Vertical Scorecard found at baseballscorecard.com, and go to the park with four sheets, in case the game goes to extra innings past 10.

The only exceptions have been when I’ve been shooting my camera, and then I have my wife score.

"AND THEN I HAVE MY WIFE SCORE"

taken out of context, rob, that is a bold, bold statement.

I never score during the games.

My girlfriend is a cold fish.

I've got nothing.

I love to score games

I’m going to the Angel games in Minneapolis (I live in Wisconsin) on Friday and Saturday and I’m really looking forward to teaching my 6-year old son how to score games. I’m hoping he’ll dig it.

by V-Hawk Angelorum on Apr 15, 2009 1:48 PM PDT reply actions

Definitely...

My dad taught me when I was five and I have been doing it ever since.

Its funny though because I usually dont keep it. I score it, take it home, and in a week it usually ends up in the trash.

I think if I had season tickets i would keep all of them and put them on my fridge or something.

tons, when i was a kid

Hell, I even scored the baseball card games, spinner games (in which Dave Kingman was better than Babe Ruth), and dice games. And when that got old, I grabbed a tape recorder and announced the games in real time.

by yeswecan on Apr 15, 2009 6:33 PM PDT reply actions

I try to

but I think I might be doing it wrong…

(oh man, I’m asking for it)
