AND the nightmare inning is over."
-Steve Physioc after a groundout ends the inning where the Angels scored FIVE RUNS. NIGHTMARE? What an @xHoal. This is the Angels' announcer - He must be auditioning for a new job because any Angels fan who was listening will want to kick his ass out of town.

PLEASE!
I’m so sick of his stupid ramblings about god knows what. It is time for change.
34 will always hang with Angels
Hud can be the same way
He’s way to political…
I’ve heard this story a coupe times:
“Hudler, now an Angels TV analyst as Torre once was, recalled a brawl that erupted in the 1992 season after Todd Worrell vehemently objected to Cardinals teammate Pedro Guerrero bringing his friend, Sammy Sosa of the rival Cubs, into the clubhouse after a game. After Sosa left, Worrell and Guerrero exchanged punches.
Torre helped pull them apart and then called them into the trainer’s room along with Hudler, who also had voiced displeasure with an opposing player entering the room."
I like that Hud better.
I have nothing important to say.
I mean now he's changed...
He used to be more of a homer, which I appreciated. He’s waaaaay too friendly with EVERYBODY!
I mean I don’t want our announcers to sound like the ChiSox’s… “good guys wear black” yada yada yada…
The example I gave was what I liked about Hud
I have nothing important to say.
Really?
No love for Phys?
I’m thankful for Steve and Rex’s broadcasts. Wife and I make sure to listen to everyone we can. We’ve noticed that Rory is about as bad as the dude who called the Red Sux games, and although I like Gubicza a lot, he seems to be trying too hard to be Rex…

I could'nt beleive stupid Physioc sad that......
and when Ichiro caught that fly ball against the wall earlier in the game and Phys yells, “And he drops the ball!” which of course Ichiro did not drop the ball, and we did not get our first hit of the game.
It was sad...
You really expect ICHIRO to drop that?
It was sorta funny though XD

Phys: least favorite broadcaster
If he could bother to remember, reliably, what players are on the field at any given time, we might have something.
"I've got more action than my man John Woo
And I've got mad hits like I was Rod Carew" - Shure Shot, The Beastie Boys
Phys pisses me off because he always has a snooty attitude towards Rex
Rex is having a great time and Piss often rains on his parade, like now now Rex good boy. F – his downer B S. He is by far the worst Angels announcer

HE talks down to Rex
very patronizing. But he is patronizing to the listeners. Gotta love the mute button – wonder how many angel promos and sponsorships I have not heard over the years because I – like may fans – mute steve.

Hit enter by mistake before finished typing...
I was going to say that I always thought of Phys as Rex’s “straight man”.
Phys slipped on that one...
Maybe he’ll send his apology to AW.com since they brought this up on their blog first? ;)

Not allowed to criticize him over there
They’re good at sucking asses, just bad at picking which asses to suck.

i love phys
to tell you the truth. he is my favorite. i mean clearly i am i the minority here which is fine, but i hope he is always the angels broadcaster. i love his voice. there is not a single fiber of me that has any dislike whatsoever. before i first joined this site this year i thought everyone loved him. i love rex too. not only do i appreciate the fact that he embraces the marijuana culture that i love so very much but i think hes funny. i think the two are hilarious together and get the impression that they are very good friends. but like i said, its just MY opinion and in the end, who cares about that.
Maybe a poll or something is in order just to see what most angel fans on this site think?

Just curious
Because the last time I saw stoners sitting on a couch, taking bong hits, eating Doritos, and watching Half-Baked I didn’t realize they were actually engaging in cultural activities.
Holla

i agree
i like phyz and hud together. i like it better than rory and gubicza

I also think there was one done back in April or May 2008. This comes up every year, actually.

Did not see the broadcast
but the way I read that quote is that Phys is trying TOO hard to be objective and not be a homer that he comes off sounding like he is anti-Angel. Did anyone else read it that way? Or maybe it was his inarticulate way of saying that the Angels are playing so well tonight that they are causing nightmares for the opposing team’s pitching.
no no no
he said in an EXCITED, RELIEVED TONE, like a Mariners fan would. It was really embarrassing.
(For Seattle.)
Replaying it on MLB.tv, here’s the quote:
“And Finally the Nightmare sixth inning is over… for Seattle.”
The loud end-of-inning music may have drowned out that last part.
Then he starts saying something about the Angels leaving (presumably two runners on) but is completely inaudible by then.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
And yes.
It was in an excited, relieved tone. Then he got almost scolding with the Angels for leaving men on.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
I think he meant...
the nightmare of not scoring runs with runners in scoring position. But still poor choice of words at the time.
On a side note have you ever payed attention to how when he’s advertising the next give away at home, he says “Hey Angels fans…”
Makes it sound like he’s not a fan.
Vin Scully always says “Hey friends…”
Scully sounds like one of the fans.
Hall of Famer vs. Homer.
He said...
The nightmare inning is over for Seattle. So not referring to “the streak” that he kept harping on.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
My bad
Have the flu. Was watching the game, but I wasn’t very coherent at the time..

Get well!
Don’t want to see you on the 15 day DL.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Thank god he isn't Scully...
I hate that guy.
What the heck??
how can you possibly hate Vin Scully. As much of an Angel fan I am, i love listening to Scully. Great voice and w/ all the great stories? How can you argue with the Hall of Fame.

Here's to many more nightmare innings!
At least we know the Wonderdog is rooting for the right guys. Phys has never been an Angels fan. When the A’s had Mulder, Zito and Harden all we’d hear about was how they were going to dominate for the next 10 years.
Phys mixed up Jereds, too
He referred to Jered Weaver as “Washburn” twice the other night, I couldn’t believe it but TiVo says it’s so.
At least he didn't say
Jarrod Weaver instead of Jered Weaver. :P

Perhaps he is auditioning for TBS postseason baseball...
…where a 5-run Angels’ inning would also be considered a nightmare. TBS may as well have been broadcasting from Boston’s dugout.
by Big Easy Halofan on Apr 17, 2009 7:37 AM PDT reply actions
Also where commenting positively on the Angels
is considered bad, and sucking up to the chowds is doubleplusgood.
Angels fan since '67
Yeah.
At least let the Angels broadcast their own damn games if you’re going to have the “national” coverage be so completely biased.
A guy can wish, right? Ah well, that’s what the radio was (is) for. And it’ll be better this year with Gameday Audio on the iPhone MLB at Bat – Where I watched the games last year I had to stand still at a particular angle with my arm half outstretched to get a mostly-clear signal.
I just realized that it’s never crossed my mind that the Angels could NOT be in the Playoffs. Ah well, they’ll be there.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
If I had it my way
Rory and Terry would do both the TV and the Radio broadcast simultaneously.
Seem to be the only two guys in any of our booths that have any kind of skill and journalistic integrety. Although I don’t listen to the Spanish broadcast…

Physioc
I’m not one to bitch if a guy knows as much about the other team as the team he is calling games for.
However, sometimes Physioc can get long-winded and annoying when he over-explains certain things, situations and their importance.
Just call the damn game and let Rex be the color guy.
It's a small gaffe, people
There’s lots of reasons to hate on the Physioc, mainly when his head isn’t in the game (which it clearly isn’t a good deal of the time). It’s no coincidence that the home calls in the 2002 WS video are all (IIRC) Rory Marcus.
Witty .sig goes here.
Physioc was done for the season in the 2002 WS...
since the games were televised on Fox, the radio team is the only one to go the distance and still be on the Halos payroll.

I think in some videos
they do use some of Joe Buck’s calls. Have to say I don’t mind hearing him say “Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it…the Angels, world champions!”
Joe Buck and Tim McCarver were the Fox TV crew for the 2002 WS
Rory Markus and Terry Smith were the AM710 Angels Radio crew during the 2002 WS.
