Game broadcasts on AM830
I had to drive down to Dana Point for a family event on Sunday, and was amazed how weak the signal for 830 was while I was driving and listening to the game. The signal started to lose strength as I was passing through Irvine, and, by the time I reached San Juan Capistrano, it was virtually unlistenable. I know the station signal is weak in the Valley, but these areas are in Orange County, and not that far from the station which is at The BIg A. Has anyone else experienced this frustration?

The station is at the Big A
But the antenna is not necessarily at the Big A. Issues with AM 830’s signal have overall been abig disappointment.

I'm glad to see you acknowledge that KLAA's signal is less than optimal
You sure gave me hell last year for pointing that out!

I really thought it would get better
Arte buying time on 980 AM for weekday games was the admission it was not going to get better.
I had just thought they would take time and tweak it, but they bought a Turkey.

There isn't much he can do
to improve the signal, sadly. It’s already at maximum allowed power, and boxed in by near-adjacent stations at 790 and 870 that cause interference. But he’s a smart businessman, so I’m hoping he can develop a chain of stations eventually like Gene Autry’s Golden West Broadcasters.

Time of day is a factor
Try again during a night game, you’ll find it comes in a lot better.

Oddly, or not so oddly (depending on the ionosphere)
In the Valley, 830 comes in fairly decently during the day, but drops out at night (and AM840 spills over onto it at night, too).

I live in the Beach Community
I spend most of my time in Redondo/Torrance/Palos Verdes and AM 830 is absolutely horrible everywhere.
Whenever I can catch a game on the TV I am always shocked there is no constant high pitch squealing noise trying to compete with the play by play guys.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....

The Radio
I was in in the LA area on Thursday night and was very surprised at how well 830 came in (although I was expecting to get nothing). Driving down the 101 and then on into Pasadena gave me no problems really. If you can’t get that then try 980 because they are supposed to simulcast all the games, right?

Thousand Oaks = No Signal
Out here in the Conejo Valley, where MIKE SCIOSCIA LIVES, you cannot get games on 830 or 980. A little ironic? Well, so I pays my money and gets my XM … which means I have to put up with the home announcers for road games. Makes me appreciate Rory and Terry all the more …

I like the other team's broadcasts
It gives me perspective and info on the other teams in the league, plus it is interesting to see how my team is perceived by the opponents. Granted, some broadcasters aren’t very good, but it isn’t as if Jose Mota, Mark Gubicza or Rex Hudler are the equivalent of Vin Scully.
On MLB.TV, there is a choice between the home and road broadcasts, and I often will watch the other team’s TV broadcast for those very reasons.

XM Radio
It is worth the money to get a clean signal. You can even get one of those receivers which functions as a car, home or portable receiver.

Can't get AM 830 at all
now that I live in Denver. Been an XM’er for years and it has lessened the sparation anxiety considerably. Definitely worth it.

I have it too
mainly for my wife the Cubs fan, and it’s great for listening to games on the go. The only downside: you don’t get your choice of announcers.
Witty .sig goes here.

And how much is the receiver?

Yeah, I don't want to turn this into an advert
But can this mysterious device or whatever let me listen to 830am wherever – even indoors?

AM 830
I use a radio in my car, but outside of my car I actually get pretty well perfect sound quality from either MLB’s Gameday Audio, or if I’m out and about my MLB At Bat for the iPhone lets me listen to any game live, and choose which team’s broadcast to tune in to.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.

You get pretty well perfect sound quality from Gameday Audio?
Really? I’ve always found it sounds like listening to the game over the telephone, which would be okay in itself, but in addition the volume fades up and down so that if you’re not next to the computer to ride the gain it’s not really listenable.

Hmn
I don’t have that problem… but I also think I may have damaged my hearing with a little too much volume on my iPod (and, ahem, game seven in ’02), so I pretty much keep the volume very high anyway.

I haven't had any problems with AM830 on my iPhone
I listen to other games throughout the day and some stations do not sound good at all but AM830 sounds fine. A lot stronger/more dependable than listening to an in and out signal on the radio here in Silverlake (east of Hollywood).
Maybe its mental but it seems like the further east the team is, the crappier the signal. Same for MLB.TV.

I live in La Jolla
Try ESPN AM 800 (San Diego affiliate) if you are south and you might find yourself lucky so long as there aren’t any NBA playoff games. Whenever I drive south from dana point-oceansideI lose the 830 signal and 800 usually carries it.

I travel a lot from South OC to San Berdoo
and never have any big issues with 830. Usually signal is decent, even up on the 241 through the hills.

MLB.COM and MLB at Bat iPhone Application
If you have an iPhone, the cheapest way to have a clear version of the radio broadcast is to buy the MLB iPhone App for $9.99 for the whole season. You will have access to every MLB game’s radio broadcast, home and away feeds.
If you don’t have an iPhone then you can go on MLB.COM and buy “Gameday Audio” which will give you the same thing on your PC or Mac.
I don’t have Cable TV and I cant view the MLB.TV feed of Angels games because I’m in the LA/OC market and they black it out (which is total bullshit if you ask me). Pretty much all of my AM830 listening has been through the iPhone and it’s worked perfectly.
