A modest proposal: Trade Figgins to White Sox

The White Sox desperately need a CF and some speed at the top of the order. In the middle of the order, it is all power and cement legs (Thome, Dye, Konerko). Josh Fields is doing well at 3B, but the team lacks a CF who can hit.

Enter Figgins. Trade him for Matt Thornton, who is completing the final guaranteed year of his deal (team options for 2010 and 2011). Thornton would give the Angels a reliable reliever to assist in stemming the meltdown, allow Jepsen to get over whatever back issues he is having now, and return some arms to AAA where they belong.

The White Sox are so desperate right now they're reportedly trying to get Aaron Rowand back from the Giants, assuming the Giants pay a large chunk of the $44M (through 2012) left on the ridiculous deal Rowand was given. Figgins would be a cheaper alternative and provide the team the speed at the top of the order the ChiSox are seeking.

With Figgins in Chicago, move Wood to 3B and get him in the second half of the order, behind Morales, Rivera and Napoli to keep him from feeling pressured, and let the boy hit.
