In Honor of Brian Powers
Downing Rules posted earlier today a thread to honor Brian Powers, killed - or perhaps more precisely - murdered at the Angels home opener on Monday night.
At this time, there is a lot we do not know. Among many other open questions;
1) If he was an Angel fan (likely).
2) How long he had been a fan of the Angels.
3) If he has any surviving family members.
One way or the other, I believe it appropriate to honor the memory of Brian in some way here on Halos Haven. Without putting undue burden on The Rev, I ask if you have ideas for a permanent tribute here on HH to Mr. Powers.
Perhaps it can be a "memorial" section of HH that can include others (Lyman Bostock, Mike Miley, Donnie Moore, etc).
Please, serious suggestions only.
This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

Rev...I forgot to add...
…I didn’t intend to “volunteer” your efforts, especially without asking you first.
If we get some decent ideas, and you think thing they are worthwhile, I would be glad to volunteer my time to create the tribute. You know how to contact me directly.

I restate my earlier suggestion.
We make it a tradition for HH members to pay tribute to our fallen brother by pouring a swig of beer onthe spot of the attack if you ever pass it by. If you see a wet spot there, you know a fellow HH’er has passed before you.

Slow Down
A tragic situation? Clearly yes. A permanent tribute? I’m not so sure.
As you’ve stated there are pretty much only unanswered questions about this young man, not to even mention facts of how the whole situation began. Would it be appropriate for us to idealize and memorialize someone who is found out later to instigated the fight or act in a manner that doesn’t deserve such respect?
Once things become clearer and we learn more about the tragedy that occurred, then I think decisions can be made for some kind of tribute or memorial. However, at this point, it seems premature because so many key facts are missing.

I agree without reservation regarding the permanent tribute
This notwithstanding, Brian Powers was a victim of a violent, scurrilous act, and met a fate he did not deserve. That’s what bothers me, and it makes it worse that it happened in a place I think of as a second home.
For something horrible like this to have happened at the Big A is very much like having such a thing happen in my own neighborhood, on my own block. I sense that we all feel similarly, and want to do something—as HH’ers and as Angel faithful—to signify our categorical rejection of such behavior and to help ensure that this incident remains an isolated one.
I am absolutely sure that Angels management feels the same way, and I suspect that while they will not want to do anything to compromise the investigation at this point, when the dust settles a bit I expect Tim Mead will provide leadership on this front.
Until then, perhaps the best thing to do would be to make donations to the Angels Foundation. This would undoubtedly serve the community well, and alert management to our interest in this matter.

Patience is best
This kind of thing shouldn’t happen in any stadium anywhere but there are many many scenarios that could make a PERMANENT tribute very distasteful. (and I don’t mean to imply in any way that he may have deserved this. I and we know VERY little) Once the dust settles then something can be considered. I vote for anything that supports reducing violence.
Having said that, it is heartwarming to know that this has left such a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. There are more of us than them.
Captain, there are doubt's...

In honors of Brian "Powers"
First let me start off with it’s Brian Powell not Powers. The media all around is stating his last name as Powers but that’s incorrect. I knew Brian for a long time. Went to same junior high and high school together. And remained friends years after. Having the same circle of friends.
Yes he was a die hard Angel fan since I can remember. HIs body art “tattoos” can prove that.
He did leave family behind and even more friends…
Not to mention a little girl.
I think it’s a good idea for the tribute and anything his friends can do to help. We are here.
But please… If the tribute was to happen, the correct last name is Powell.

regardless
of what went down.
i knew him personally and this guy was the BIGGEST fan I ever met.
Whether you think he is desreved a tribute or not because of the siuation doesnt matter.
he was a person and people make mistake he died and people are affected by it.
he has family that are mourning unbelievably and friends that have so much regret in the hearts and going through m any different senarios that what if they were there it could of been stopped.
people are hurting people.
does it really matter the life he led before this will you really be the one to judge what he deserved? or deserves!?
have some sympathy for people that knew him.
watch your comments cause it could hurt someone more than you think.

correct name...
Powers is most definitely what he went by, whether or not it is his bith name or not, I knew him well and knew what the checks said, but the issue at hand is a tragedy not the spelling of his name, and don’t want to start arguments anyway, that is what started this tragedy :(

so nick adenhart happened to be placed in the same room as brian and all the angels were in the room the whole team.
its almost ironic but i know Brian would of loved it he would of been the happiest person on earth to have had that chance to meet them.

I am sure I’ve seen him at many Angel games. I went to like 40 last year and I know I’ve seen him. Cryin’ shame.

Fan dies after fight at Angels game
11:54 AM | April 8, 2009
Police are searching for details about a fight at Angels Stadium on Monday night that led to the death of a Buena Park man.
About 8:45 p.m. Monday, as crowds were leaving the stadium after the Angels’ opening-day game against the Oakland As, witnesses saw 27-year-old Brian Powers fighting with another man near a stairwell in the right-field pavilion, according to the Anaheim Police Department.
During the fight, witnesses said, a third man approached Powers from behind and punched him in the head, making him fall and strike his head on a concrete step. Powers was rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was pronounced brain dead around midnight Tuesday, said Anaheim Police Sgt. Rick Martinez.
“We’re asking the public’s help to find out what the fight was about,” Martinez said.
The male suspects, who fled before police arrived, are described as being between 25-30 years old with goatees. Police are reviewing security videos that may have captured the attack. Witnesses are asked to call Anaheim police at (714) 765-1944.

A very sad week for Angel's fans
First we lose a great fan in a terrible way,
then a future star in another terrible way,
I pray for both Familys in this dark hour.
