Southland Double Header
I had the most incredible day on Saturday. A few weeks ago, my best friend (Dodgers season ticket holder) and I (Halo's season tix holder) realized that the schedule was going to allow us to go to both the Dodgers and the Angels game.
The buildup was intolerable, and what proceeded to happen was incredible!!
I wonder if anyone else out there did the same thing. As reasonable as it is to assume that a few people in fact did, it's also not completely out of question that NOBODY did, and he and I are quite possibly the only two people in the WORLD to see two Complete game shutouts, by two different teams, in two different leagues, in two different ballparks, on THE SAME DAY!!!!!
On another note, the former Secret Service agent Frank McCourt hired to head up Dodger Stadium security seems to be doing his job. I have now been to my fair share of Dodger games this season so far and I'll say I'm impressed. They have a new policy starting next month where if you are found in the parking lot with any alcohol, you will be immediately removed from the parking lot. Now usually that's subject to enforcement, but early indications prove that the army of Golf cart attendants that circled us like a hawk while we were trying to enjoy a cold one made things pretty tough.
I will be attending all 3 games over Memorial weekend and will be wearing red, so I'll give you all my reports on the improvement.

I think there's one other chance this season at Dodger stadium
My girlfriend and I are planning on attending the Angels, Padres Double header via the surfliner on August 8th also.
Never been to Petco so I’m pretty pumped.

the drive sucks
but other then that and the parking. you go down about 3 one way streets to get there. you wont see it until you are right in front of the darn thing. the stadium is very different, not as smooth as Angels stadium but a very nice view no matter where you sit. you should have a great time.

Oh I have been downtown a thousand times for tradeshows. Just never lucky enough to be there for a game.

I've also been to an Angel game and a Dodger game in the same day.
I saw the Angels beat the Doyers a few years back in LA. :)
I have nothing important to say.
Ha, that doesn't count, I go to six of those a year.
Two years ago we went 5-1 in the series.

what's amazing is that you were able to get out of the Dodger's parking lot
in time for the Angel game.
I have nothing important to say.

You haven't been to Dodger stadium in a while have you?
It takes longer to get out of Angel stadium on most nights. Just thousands of cars going for the same exit.
Frank McCourt made his money operating parking lots. I have never seen a more efficient, effortless parking situation.

I have not...
but I have heard that McCourt has tried to fix the parking lot situation.
As for Angel Stadium, I usually get out in less than 10 minutes (I’m not exaggerating). I go out over by McDonalds. No one goes over there.
I have nothing important to say.
When I parked in the stadium lot
I would park right by the Douglass exit (except on BigBang Fridays), out in 5-10 minutes.
Now I park in the business parks on Orangewood.
Angels fan since '67
I park across the street (Gene Autry) for like $5 now
Get out like greased lightining.

efficiant and effortless?
Remember blanket night? I think on most regular nights (35,000 to 40,000 folks in attendance) it’s pretty seamless, but if it’s packed you’re screwed. The situation will continue to suck until they quadruple the lanes in the roads leading to the stadium. The downtown gate is the most extreme example. No, for now I’ll stick to the “secret route” we took last time. Also I will never give up on my dream of a fun rollercoaster that takes you from Union Station to the reserve level.
Like Disneyland's former ride ... The Peoplemover.
That would be cool to have that ride link Chavez to Union Station.
Also, never park “on top” at Dodger Stadium. Street parking is the best for quick exit and the cheapest option ($0).

I like parking next to the police academy
If you can get there early enough. I grew up in echo park so sometimes I just park on my old block and ride my bike. It’s nice and nostalgic for me. Peoplemover would be cool, but I was thinking more like the Colossus at Magic Mountain, except with sweet loops and animatronic former Dodgers in the line to get onto the ride like Space Tours. Make it happen McCourt!
Seriously though, just a friggin trolly or something. $15 makes me want to scream.
The problem with a Trolley...
They have to get to the stadium also, and as we’ve already discussed, the roads leading to the ballpark have a tendency to get a little choaked up. There needs to be a dedicated “rail” line if it’s going to really work.
It’s probably why the original Dodger Trolley didn’t work. That and people around here just despise public transportation…

For your edification, about 25,000 people ride Metrolink every weekday.
And you should try to navigate the crush of LA subway riders during rushhour sometime. I did this for more than a decade, every business day.
Yeah I only use LA public transportation
Just because parking anywhere is a nightmare. I dont really understand peoples gripes about it; its cheap and itll take you anywhere
RIP #34
Yes, that was the worst goddamn night.
But let’s be clear, that issue is getting in to the Ballpark, not the parking situation itself, and the original comment was exiting the ballpark which you and I can both attest, is pretty easy.

Cool experience, Midway!
Hey, I did a Padres-Angels doubleheader once… using TRAIN transportation:
Skipped work and rode Amtrak down to San Diego, trolley to Petco for a matinee game.
Caught the Rockies and Padres. It went to extra innings SCORELESS and I had to leave to catch the northbound Amtrak after the 9th ended. The highlight of the game was meeting Jenny Finch — the USA softball team sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and they waited for the final out of the top of the 7th in front of my seats along the RF line. I took a pic with Jenny.
Upon leaving Petco, I rode the train directly to Anaheim Stadium (many of the USA softball players were on the train, too) where I saw the Angels versus the Red Sox. That night, Vladimir Guerrero got 9 RBI (setting the franchise record), many of the RBI coming against Pedro Martinez, who I personally heckled from above the Red Sox dugout all throughout his time on the mound.
That was my most amazing day ever — and it was a Southland Double-Header, too! It was in July 2004, IIRC.

Oops it was June 2, 2004
Angels 10 (Vlad 9), Red Sox 7

Padres 2, Rockies 1 (I was wrong, too on the scoreless part of the Padres game — I was too busy with Jenny Finch I guess)

I saw Fuentes strike out a Padre to end the 9th and then took off for Anaheim.

I agree about the tailgaiting...
They would not even let you stand by the car with no drinks in your hand. That’s the second time I’ve been to Dodger Stadium in 10 years and probably the last. The All You Can Eat Pavilion was cool though.
I saw 4 games in 27 hours once
Flew to San Francisco and saw a Dodger/Giant doubleheader. Next afternoon saw the Angels play Oakland and then drove to San Diego and saw the Padre/Astro game. I’ll have to look it up on BB-Ref for the exact dates.
All five California teams (and Nolan Ryan pitched for Houston).
