Photos from SLC Bees @ Portland

The Bees got off to a promising start going up by two with a four run 3rd inning. However, the Bees quickly fell apart and ended their 4-game stand against the Portland Beavers (Padres-affiliates) with a whopping 13-4 loss.

Despite rumors that Ervin Santana was going to start, Sean O'Sullivan took the hill and looked anything but impressive over his 5 innings of work. Blames of the game can be handed out to both Fernando Rodriguez who gave up 4 runs in the 6th and my personal BOTG, Kevin Jepsen. After a strong seventh, Jepsen gave up five runs in the 8th including two home runs. This all happened with two outs too! When Jepsen finally got pulled I couldn’t help but tell him from my seat right behind the dugout to "start looking for apartments in Salt Lake" because he certainly isn’t going anywhere. The highlights for the Bees were doubles by Freddy Sandoval and Matt Brown. Other than that, the Bees offense was mostly quiet due to the superb pitching of Padres prospect Jonathan Ellis who pitched 2.1 innings and struck out four including a Mr. Brandon Wood.

The fill-in warm-up catcher bit...

is crazy. Let’s hope he doesn’t take one off the dome warming up Jepsen…

And speaking of Jepsen, “What the hell happened to him?”

Unreal. Thanks for the pics.

RIP Nick...

Only 317 to left there

and a normal size wall…must be a launching pad.

it is....

and admittedly one of the HR’s given up by Jepsen was a line drive to right-field.

Still, Jepsen fell apart and the second homer was near the farthest part of the park.

Awesome pics

Too bad about Jepsen. I’m almost happy to hear that it was a two out meltdown in his second inning though, rather than total inefficacy. Seems more fixable.

Great shot of Wood with the catchers’ mitt. Maybe it’s not the best use of the Halos’ human resources, but it’s great to see him contributing in even the little ways. What else does that guy have to do?

He was lights out in the seventh...

but in the eighth he fell apart. I noticed his fastball lost a little speed in the eighth according to the stadium radar. I dunno how much to trust it but in the seventh he was consistently tossing 96-98 while in the seventh it was more 92-94. That seemed like an unusually dramatic drop for one inning.
