Lunch Thread: Jedi Vlad Lightsaber Edition

Vladimir Guerrero is on his way back. He will likely be in the Angels lineup in 6 days. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Look at this picture and post a few of those words.

He might wanna consider Arredondo's haircut

Maybe it’ll take two years off his swing.

Vlad is thinking

“I love it when Loux thows batting practice…..”

by mustard_man on May 19, 2009 11:22 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

the lineup and batting order with Vlad?

The picture says to me that Vlad loves to hit a baseball. Since Vlad can only DH, it makes me think of our lineup after he returns. It most likely will be:

1-Figgy-3b
2-Abreu-RF
3-Vlad-DH
4-Hunter-CF
5-Napoli-c
6-Morales-1B
7-Rivera-LF
8-HK-2B
9-Aybar-ss

Really not a bad line-up, if HK can start hitting it is very solid, one through nine. Naps needs to stay healthy so he can catch 5-6 days a week. I wonder if Naps could play first base to spell Morales? It would be tough to learn to play firstbase during a season, but catchers are generally good athletes and I wonder if he could learn quickly enough to become Morales’ backup. This would then provide us with a back up first-baseman which in turn could allow a call up from Salt Lake of an non-first baseman infielder.

Mike Napoli

Portrait of athleticism.

by Captain Awesome on May 19, 2009 11:43 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

What does'nt look athletic when Mike Napoli does that sweet homerun swing that lands the ball over the wall in deep center field?

Why can’t Mathis learn first base for that matter, he might be a little quicker pouncing on line drives.

I am The Iron Man.

by 44FAN on May 19, 2009 3:41 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mathis can't play first base because the Gods

of baseball would never allow such a hollow bat to linger at that Mecca for offensive production.

Er…

Darin Erstad shoots a hole in that argument.

Now replace Aybar with Wood...

That’s a good lineup.

But, I’d do this:

Figgy
Abreu
Napoli
Hunter
Vlad
Morales
Rivera
Wood
Kendrick

Honestly, how incredible would this lineup be?

This is exactly the lineup that I would write up (possible exception of switching Vlad and Hunter, but its semantics) every day. This is easily one of the top lineups in all of baseball….at least 5-7 wins better than what we are going to put on the field for the rest of the year. It’s too bad Mr. Scioscia doesn’t care.

Also, S-Rod should be the 10th man here…

by Spird on May 19, 2009 12:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

only issue with that

Once Vlad is back Napoli won’t be in the line up every day, as Vlad can only DH. Think Sosh has the stones to sit Vlad ahead of Naps once a week?

by dmhead on May 19, 2009 2:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Vlad is still hitting like a girl, he better have the stones to put

Nipples in the lineup and sit Vlad’s ass down. Vlad has a short leash, IMO. He hasn’t looked good and if that lingers now that he is “healthy” he may be looking at decline…

NO.

WHY get rid of a guy whos hitting 300 for an average defensive second-basemen hitting 220.?

put Wood or Aybar at 2b. But dont keep HK.

Let's check back in 30 days and see where Aybar and HK are...

Aybar is hot right now and HK isn ‘t – I think they will switch places in a short amount of time. As down on HK as I am right now, he has a pedigree that usually doesn’t wash out this gloriously this quickly. Aybar is just not a .300 hitter – no matter what the stat line says right now…

Now, if Aybar has figured out how to hit, that’s great, but he has 1/3 the power of HK too…

We’ll see.

RIP Nick...

Agreed

I would bet a lot of money that Kendrick finishes this season with an avg. higher than Aybar and a lot more power to boot.

by Spird on May 19, 2009 3:22 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I disagree. We dont know the extent of Aybar's talent...

Hes young…this might be normal for him.

And if you want to talk about power, you shouldnt be talking about either of these hitters anyways. If we need to rely on power from HK then were f-ed.

Napoli played a lot of first base in the minor leagues

I know he played there fairly often during his time with the Quakes and I remember him being decent. Shouldn’t be too hard to get up to speed again.

by CanyonLakeHalo on May 19, 2009 2:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with this lineup

Kendry and Naps might switch spots, but we have to keep Torii in the top four spots and not move him back to #5. Matthews also seems to be ahead of Rivera right now. Either way, though, this lineup is excellent — the best we have had in years. Too bad Naps won’t be able to play every day with Vladdy back.

ROFL.......wait isnt that what Manny said at the Doyers press conferance??? Oh wait

that was only the first part…….Manny Really said,

IIMMMMMM BAAAAAAACK……………………………ON STEROIDS!!!!

However the Doyers managed to filter that out cus they didnt think they would sell as “Manny” shirts if they said “Im back on steriods” with the number 99 on the back, so they just kept it at “IM BACK”

Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aftermath of the sweep in Tejas

Josh Hamilton is out of the lineup Tuesday with a strained right groin.
Hamilton suffered the injury while making a catch on Sunday. Rangers manager Ron Washington was hoping the off day on Monday would provide enough rest, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. “It’s just sore,” Hamilton said. “I’d like to play [Wednesday], but we’ll see.”

Miss you Nick...! RIP

by K3YEROUT on May 19, 2009 2:45 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton left Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels prior to the eighth inning with a slight groin injury after crashing into the padded wall in right-center on a leaping catch in the seventh. Hamilton sprinted to his left and caught Howie Kendrick’s drive before running into the wall. Hamilton’s left forearm struck the wall and he fell on the warning track before scrambling to his feet and throwing back to the infield to keep Gary Matthews at first.

Miss you Nick...! RIP

Whewee, Mama Guerrero sure cooked up a spicy batch today.

That'll only happen if that one prospect is the second coming of Christ and redemption for mankind can only be achieved by smacking many balls out of the yard.
