Position Stereotypes

And by that I mean, how come certain positions are supposed to do certain things at the plate?

How come a third baseman must hit for power?

How come a shortstop should hit for contact?

If a shortstop went off and hit 50 home runs, everyone would say he's amazing.

But, if a third basemen hit 2 home runs, everyone would say he's lacking.

But why?

Because people get so attached to their stereotypes, that they can't look at the big picture.

Look at Carlos Gomez. He's a good player, and his 9 career home runs are acceptable because he plays CF, so he needs to be fast.

Now, look at Figgins.

He has 4 Home Runs in the last 3 years. And, people say that we need power.

All because of a position.
