Lunch Thread: Brooklyn Landgrabbers
Game is at 7:10 PM tonight at the former site of working family homes, Chavez Ravine.
Jered Weaver will be fighting for the little guy, Clayton Kershaw will be pitching for the big-money politico machine. Criticizing the very existence of this transplant franchise is so easy, I could do a Top 100 List... Anyone going to the game tonight? Have Dodger fan friends? Family? Co-Workers? Neighbors? I get chided at In-n-Out and our Magic-Johnson-Starbucks by the kids working there when I wear my Angels cap here in Souf Centrow, but I got the hat on this weekend. You?

This seems like an appropriate time
To repost the single greatest piece of journalism the OC Weekly has ever produced. (Language may be NSFW.)
That is awesome
and probably the ONLY good piece of journalism the OC Weekly has ever produced. I kid, I kid. No really, the OC Weekly is great if you like your news with gobs of sanctimony.

I read that rag every Friday...no idea why, sometimes. They should call it The Downtown SantAna Weekly.

To be fair, they did uncover that whole Corona shit show.

True that
But only because the OC Weekly’s one mission in life is to smear the police. Nothing wrong with keeping the cops in check, but the Weekly’s OBSESSION with digging up and oftentimes REACHING for dirt is almost comedic. But hey, the sun’s ass shines on a dog every once in a blue moon, er, or something like that…

Man, I hate Dodgers fans(not REAL hate, but you know what I mean). I have a couple friends that are fans of the Dodgers, and we basically just avoid the subject, like it was religion or politics.
I really hope we win this series.
Dodgers fans have the least intelligent and illiterate fanbase in all of MLB.

so a little more central and a little less south....
still, you are all up in the mix of Los Angeles. I can see how it might be a bit hard to be sporting Angels gear in that hood.
I guess that is what Aybar is for though…biting the ass of intruding Dodger fans.

Don't think we'll see that happening anytime soon
I heard that Doyer fans taste like Mini Sirloin Burgers.
I was born at one of the clinics on Slauson......in Culver city.
dont remember anything about it though……just that’s what my Birth Certificate says.

My older sister bleeds Doyer Blue.
And was totally obnoxious about it through the dark years.
Back in the ’70s, the Doyers were OK to me, but no more…
Angels fan since '67

I really HATE them!
Especially all the idiots in the bleachers and nose bleeds …
red floyd, you’re right, back then they were ok. from the 90’s on, they have become intolerable…
i feel the same way
its like late nineties they’ve become more stupid. i think it was the Raiders leaving and the idiot fans needed a void to fill or something. i’m not hating on the Raiders because thats my team, but i know we have alot of idiot fans. i wish i can just move on to another team.
Doyer fans are very unintelligent
when it comes to baseball. I coach a high school team and 90% of them are Doyer fans and it gets pretty damn annoying. But even if we sweep them or win 2 of 3 the Doyers are still the better team to Doyer fans. Annoying bastards.
"If I was still pitching, I would stick one right in his ear..." Goose Gossage
Well, they must pride themselves on being unintelligent or something.
Almost every time I’ve gotten into the Angels/Dodgers argument, the Dodgers fan will refute my stats and baseball talk with “Oh yeah?! Well their name is stupid!!!! They arent LA…they don’t even know where they’re from, ey!!!!!!” Seriously, this has been their comeback 9 out of 10 times. One time a dude actually busted out some decent stats, and I bought him a beer. It was refreshing(a Dodger fan making a legitimate point…not the beer).
Whatever dude.

Angels fan since '67
I live in Wilmington, technically in the city of LA.
Lots and lots of Dodger fans. Every friend I have has to make the observation that “The Angels suck.” Went to see a Pirates/Dodgers game (I like the Bucs, but not as much as the Angels). The fans can be idiots. I blame the Raiders leaving.
Let's win one for Nick

My wife is a Dodgers fan
So we go to as many Dodger games as Angels games… Sometimes the fans at the stadium can be intolerable. Most people I know are more baseball fans than anything, so we usually avoid arguments.

But I have been a little “mouthy” this season since the Angels haven’t been doing so hot.

I’ve never been to a Dodgers-Angels game in LA. However, my experiences at dozens of games at Dodger Stadium since I was a kid have been pleasant.
Only recently have my friends at work become a bit stand-offish about the “rivalry” (quoted, as I don’t view it as such). Prior to, say 2004, there was never any hostility, just poking fun here and there. Maybe it’s me. Maybe it is the fact that the Angels win more often now. Before we just rolled over and were comfortable playing second fiddle in LA.
Make some noise already people. Come on!
the problem with Dodger fans is that too many of them are also Raider fans
This bullpen collapses faster than the Austro-Hungarian Empire
Ugh
I think half the people with Dodgers and Raiders stickers on their cars aren’t really fans of either team. It’s a status symbol. A bad one.

My office is about half red, half blue.
The Dodger fan spectrum is covered by the two of them here.
One is my boss, Jeff, who considres himself a National League purist. He’s the kind of Dodger fan that sees his transplant team as the heir of all that rich Brooklyn history, all those retired numbers, etc. One of those amateur baseball historians who knows what I’m talking about when I refer to “dem bums.”
Then there’s Saul, who really has little idea who is on the 25 man roster, probably has no idea what team Brad Penny is pitching for this year, if he even knew last year. He’s not as bad as it gets – he doesn’t carry a switch and doesn’t start fights with strangers. But in the end Blue is just something he’s assimilated into. Perhaps he inherited it. I dunno.
I won’t be going to any game till Tuesday cause I’ve got a full weekend.

If I cared about boring anachronistic tradition, I’d wait for sex until I’m married, I’d watch The Tonight Show every night, I’d buy a newspaper every morning and I’d be listening to Lawrence Welk on vinyl as I typed this into my Underwood Five.

Your anachrostic post got stuck in a reverb chamber and "echoed"...at least part of it.
“…how about some Champagne bubbles?”
There's an easy way to shut up 50% of Dodger fans
Ask them to name four players on the current roster besides Manchild Ramirass.
Just make sure it’s not a one of you and five of them situation. Like ‘Tater Salad’ said: “I don’t know how many of ‘em it’d take to woop me… But I knew how many they were gonna use.”

What are all those Dodger fans in attendance going to do when Vinny retires?
Who is going to talk to them over their AM radio headphones and tell them what is going on right in front of their very own eyes?
Brandon Wood is slated for 2010, and no amount of whining by us is gonna change that. So evolve, already!
I like Steiner a lot
Charley Steiner is actually as good a play by play man as any team has. He is a lot like Terry Smith but a broader range of references and a bigger vocabulary.
I have two friends at the game right now.
One was true to his team and wore the red and one was a total puss and refused to. Last year we went and there were three good fights in the cheap seats. Too bad they lost that night and we had to do the walk of shame wearing all red.
It was the first time in my life I couldn’t piss in public. All these big loked out Dodger fans were heckling me and pushing me while my fly was down.
