Trivia Question - past player

A friend and I are wracking our brains trying to remember the name of a journeyman player the Angels picked up for a season about five years ago - I believe to fill the gap of Glaus/McPherson.

I only remember that the guy was caucasian, he never produced offensively, Scioscia stuck with him maddeningly, and when the bum was interviewed, he always claimed to be a trade-worthy  commodity "at the peak of his career."  They finally bagged him at the end of the season and ate the rest of his contract.  I don't think he played anywhere after that.

No it was not Finley, but a very similar situation.

Any help?

I’d say Edgardo Alfonzo, except for the fact that you said he is caucasian. Fonzy never did anything. At least Shane Halter had a few big hits that helped win a game or two in a hotly contested division race.

My money's on Hillenbrand

as Halter was at least productive and was here for a few years.

Halter was only with the Halos for 46 games in 2004, 121 ABs. 22 of his 27 starts were at 3B.

Hillenbrand. What a bum.

Hillenbrand wasn't here five years ago...

he was here TWO years ago. What a bum is right. Hillenbloop Hillensuck, were two of the many names we gave him here at HH. 200AB’s with a .254 avg/.325obp. Woof.

yep

That’s the signing, coupled with GMjr, that made me lose faith in Stoneman.

Brother of Hans Gruber, "Die Hard" movie terrorist.

Wrong decade. Kelly Gruber played in ’93, in an Angels career that quite eerily mirrors Shane Halter-tops.
