Make Torii Hunter an All-Star
This from the LA Times:
Angel outfielder Torii Hunter ranks among the American League leaders in four offensive categories but trails nine other outfielders in balloting for the league's All-Star team, according to vote totals released today.
[...]
In the outfield, the top three choices are Boston's Jason Bay, the Rangers' Josh Hamilton and Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki. The Mariners' Ken Griffey Jr., who is hitting .226 with almost as many strikeouts (22) as hits (26) in just 115 at-bats, is fourth among outfielders, more than 60,000 votes ahead of Hunter, who is hitting .323 with 11 homers and 40 RBI and has 242,712 votes so far. Balloting ends July 2.
Without a doubt, Torii deserves to be there this year. If everyone on this site votes for Torii, it might not do the trick but there is no hurt in trying, right?
Go HERE to cast your ballot before July 2nd.

Those results are totally flawed.
Why aren’t Elsbury, JD Drew, Brett Gardner, Melky Cabrera, J Damon, and H Matsui the top 6?
All Star Voting remains a joke of a popularity contest

I agree but why not try and get him there, even if the voting is dumb....

Because we will receive spam messages from MLB.com throughout the year. No thanks.

I am sure that in one of the 25 times I voted, the check box was left unchecked. It is still the only reason why I am getting MLB.com’s emails. I am 1000% certain of it, as I did that same thing last year. I click too quickly.
I love this team.

Yeah, the other day I overheard a mom and daughter talking it over at Angel Stadium:
Mom: “Who are you going to vote for honey?”
Daughter: “Oh, Derek Jeter, mom. He’s so hot.”
I will not participate in something that has people voting like that. And no, I don’t vote in presidential elections either.
I love this team.

As always, what a joke
Not surprisingly, Derek Jizzball leads in SS voting. Blah blah blah.

the ALL STAR GAME is a popularity contest
It is not called: The statistically most qualified first halves game. It is the marquee players based on popularity. People want to see Jeter… no surprise there. People don’t want to see obscure team’s obscure player who is having a roaring first two months.
Can you blame them for not spending two hours a day watching EXTRA INNINGS to compare defensive Zone Ratings? What a croc.
The managers and MLB players pick the rest of the team, the fan majority really should pick the stars and the elitists who think they know better are the types of folks who run wars from meeting rooms a continent away from the front line.
This is true
But then when someone points out a player’s worth by, among other things, citing his number of all-star appearances, it’s sad to think that really you’re just pointing out the fact that a whole lotta chicks really like his ass.

Call Bill James. He’ll get it right.

No it ain't. There are no checks and balances anywhere in this system.
This ain’t democracy. This is mob rule, as though the only body of government we had at the national level is the House of Representatives. That’s why it is so insipid that players allow their compensation package to be tied to AS appearances. Or Selig allows home field advantage to be determined by the outcome (unless he decides that the game is not worthy of finishing).
If you believe in this sort of thing, you probably should be promoting the idea that college basketball fans get to vote on the NCAA Tourney selection and seeding.
Brandon Wood is slated for 2010, and no amount of whining by us is gonna change that. So evolve, already!
As for ...
Compensation = Owners/Players win win situation. The player gets his cash, while the sales pay for it.
Home Field Advantage = Selig is dumb.
Two players, "A" and "B", both with an All-Star performance clause.
Player “A” having a fabulous season to date, making $450K in base salary.
Player “B” has recently gone onto IR amidst a less-than-average season to-date, pulling down $15mill, and has not been a great player for 3 years. BUT he is extremely popular.
Fans vote “B” onto AS team. Player “A” loses chance at cash well-earned.
Player does NOT get his cash. Not my problem, but not right.
Brandon Wood is slated for 2010, and no amount of whining by us is gonna change that. So evolve, already!
I agree, but that just makes it seem even weirder that people wouldn't vote for Hunter. Screw stats...Hunter is as exciting as it gets. Oh, and all the girls I know think he's hot, so coupled together you'd think he'd have more votes.
Whatever dude.

what a joke
Torii Hunter has easily been one of the 5 best outfielders this season, but as always, the idiots who know nothing about baseball but Red Sox names are doing all the voting.
eff you, mainstream America.
Thank you, Nick Adenhart. You will always be remembered. #34

According to fantasy baseball
He is, and has been, the #1 center fielder this year up to now.
Good thing I dropped him for Adam Jones… not an awful move but still.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
Whoa, that was a bad move
He’s been anchoring two of my outfields

Screw the allstar game
And give Torii the MVP trophy now. Seriously. The man has kept us afloat, on the field and off, at the plate and in the field. I was skeptical about the financial commitment following the signing, but I will gladly eat those sentiments now, as well as any and all regression between now and the end of the contract.
Guess you could say I’m a fan.
You have to talk with the guy face-to-face, as well. He is genuine. I was sold during spring training 2008.

Im saving this post
So in two years when he is making 19 Million, has a no trade clause, is batting .230, 4 HR, and 22 RBI batting 8th in the lineup with chronic injuries due to being too ninja in center, I will make you eat crow so hard with this post.

The all-star game is a joke...
Fans shouldn’t be voting for more than one or two players, tops. And each fan gets to vote 25 times? What kind of lame crap is that? MLB has really screwed up a special game that I used to look forward to watching when I was a kid.
you suffer from “ahhh, the good old days” complex. ;)

so if nobody wants to vote this year because of spam emails...
Whats going to happen next year when the All-Star Game is here? Are we not going to vote our Angels into the game at our home park? I have a few suggestions for those unwilling to vote because of the ‘popularity’ aspect of the polling:
1. Create a new free new email adress that can be used for situaitons like this where spam emails are inevitable
2. Vote for only Angels players (I know this goes back to the popularity thing, but if that’s how it is, then that’s how it is.)
3. Pick up a handful of ballots at the stadium early in the game, vote for all Angels during the course of the game, and drop them off as you exit the stadium. You can vote an infinite amount of times that way.
Torii is more than deserving to be an All-Star this year, and we as a fanbase should use this opprotunity to practice our ballot-stuffing for next year’s All-Star Game.
They should rename Angel Stadium to "Heaven"
There’ll be a few freebies that MLB will add onto the roster in case we are all apathetic again next year.
I love this team.

Yeah Torri deserves to be an ALL STAR.. He stepped up when Vlad was out..Not only that,he play awesome defense.. It is sad that some players are voted in for past accomplishments and not current..It is just a popularity vote and players from teams in the larger markets get voted in…
I can see Bay and Ichiro, but after that it should be Hunter.. Hamilton will live off last season for the rest of his career..Griffey ?? Great guy and all,but not an ALL-Star..
If this game means something, then the players that are going to make the biggest difference should be in there…
who else should be an all-star?
I think that Torii Hunter and Jered Weaver will be All-Stars, and maybe Joe Saunders if he can bounce back from his last two shaky starts. He’s up against Roy Halladay and the Jays tonight, so I bet he’ll step up to the challenge much like he did vs. Zach Grenkie.
They should rename Angel Stadium to "Heaven"
