I know we got Abreu really cheap and Kendry has been playing really well so far, but I still can't shake the feeling that the Angels missed out by not signing Adam Dunn, especially considering how he's started off this year. As bad as the Nationals are, they are scoring tons more runs this year mainly due to Dunn and the emergence of Zimmerman.
What 30 year old slugger with 40 homers for five seasons in a row (not to mention a very high OBP to compensate for a bad avg.) do you know that is on the market these days for eight million dollars? I know they may have had to pony up a little more per year for a long term deal, but they still would have gotten a real bargain.
Just picture a lineup that looks like this:
1. Figgins 3B
2. Abreu, RF
3. Dunn 1B/LF
4. Vlad DH
5. Hunter CF
6. Morales 1B/LF
7. Napoli C
8. Wood SS
9. Kendrick 2B
Best pipe dream ever...but it could have happened. If you want to replace Abreu with Rivera because signing both is a bit of a stretch, that is fine too, but I think the Angels could have signed both players considering the amount of money they were going to give Teixeira.
