This is SOOOO great
another thing in that article
“But the one area I don’t think we’ve done a good job at is (drafting for) power. Especially corner outfield power.”
a guy i named in the “Draft Preview — Los Angeles Angels” fanshot Kent Matthes is a corner OF (RF) he fits both of those things we lack i hope get him
R.I.P. Nick Adenhart #34
DANG Matthes seems like a bad ass!!!!!
And the best part is that Scioscia might confuse him with Mathis and stick him in the lineup EVERYDAY!!!!
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Drafting a hitter rather than a pitcher!
It’s about time.

When everyone is healthy in our starting rotation
I think you can make the argument for Jered Weaver being our 5th starter. If that doesn’t scream draft some freaking hitters then I don’t know what does. Even if they lose Lackey they’ll have a solid starting staff, assuming Santana can consistently throw above 92 again.
Here's another article about Eddie Bane and the upcoming draft . . .
Although the Angels have gone for pitching in the last five drafts, the team is looking for power this year, making 17-year-old outfielder Mike Trout of New Jersey a possible first-round pick. Trout batted .521 with 15 homers in 71 at-bats as a senior.
The Angels are also believed to be interested in Texas prep Everett Williams, La Verne Bonita High shortstop Jiovanni Mier and Santa Monica High left-hander Tyler Skaggs.

And here’s an interview w/ Jim Callis of Baseball America concerning this year’s draft in general . . .
Rich: Hi, Jim. Thanks for taking the time to preview the 2009 First-Year Player Draft with us. How is this draft shaping up in terms of overall talent vs. those of the past?
Jim: It’s not a good draft for position players, and it comes right after a draft that was loaded with hitters, so there’s kind of a negative vibe about it. But there’s talent in any draft. This one has plenty of pitching, college and high school, lefty and righty, whatever flavor you like, starting with arguably the best draft prospect ever in Stephen Strasburg.

i can see it now
“this kid’s got great power potential….not, home run power but, you know, like erick aybar gap power. We’re really excited and Mike is gonna fast track him to the big leagues. If guys like Brandon Wood are pushed aside to make way, that’s life”
RIP Nick Adenhart

Or what the Halos had in the 80s?
RIP Nick Adenhart.
"When the Babe tries to call his shot, I hope Nick puts one in his ear."

I would have agreed with this
except the Halos have shown absolutely ZERO ability to turn excess prospects into useful pieces. They had a plethora of MI and, well we still have a plethora of MI except now they are rotting in AAA.
Who is this guy, and what has he done with Eddie Bane?
Brandon Wood is slated for 2010, and no amount of whining by us is gonna change that. So evolve, already!
The operative words being 'if it's close'
which loosely translated means….we’re gonna draft pitching, but if by some miracle, some hitter happens to fall in our laps, and he is 99.99% the prospect of the pitcher….maybe we’ll take him.
Even if it isn't close
Scioscia will go with the toolsy singles hitter than the power bat when he fills out the lineup card.
