The Worst Bullpen In Angels History
A minor bit of blogwhoring, but I figured that some folks might be interested to know that the 2009 Angels bullpen is the worst in team history as measured by ERA (The second worst was the 1994 arson squad, with a 5.47 ERA, that is, this team is a full half-run worse; measured against league average of 4.88 ERA, this team's bullpen is more than a run worse than that at 6.01). The only two relievers with above-average ERAs (as measured by ERA+) are Darren Oliver and small-sample-sized (3.1 IP) Rich Thompson.

How about Nick Swisher?
I hear he might be available for late-game situations…
RIP Nick Adenhart.

Even if
Wood could pitch there would probably be over 10 people in his way and he would stay in Triple-A until he retired

Question about Dondo.
How can someone be so lights out one year and so terrible the next. My initial thoughts is that the league just learned how to hit him. However, it seems like teams wouldnt even go through the trouble of “studying” a middle reliever. Has he lost some of his speed? Is his breaking ball not working like it use to? Speier I can understand. Shields, taking into consideration, I can understand. Bulger—who has actually been nails lately—I can understand, hes never been THAT impressive. But Dondo….wtf?
What happened? Rghan? Welch? We need your thoughts.

What's odd is K rate is at about the same as last year...
…which would lead me to believe he is simply hanging more pitches this year than last.
My best guess is he still needs to learn how to pitch
Last year was a fluke [especially with the results] and this year, he hasn’t been able to make the adjustments as a second-year player.
Or is Kendry perhaps the one who needs to sit?
At least I'm glad
Losing the back-end guy from last year simply has nothing to do with the equation of having a bad bullpen this year.
I’ll do a Tony Romo and won’t mention that guy’s name since he was a decidely polarizing figure.
Or is Kendry perhaps the one who needs to sit?
I have the solution.
I think we should let the bullpen start the game and pitch the first 3 innings. Then if the Angels are no worse than a couple runs down, bring in the game’s scheduled starter and let him pitch the last 6 innings.
