So, for lunch, let's talk about the toughest assignment that YOU have had recently - work, home, school, dating, dining, athletic, mathematic, et cetera...

i had to do
a 20 page research paper on an organization benefitting the elderly segment of our society. The meals on wheels program in orange county is a none-profit organization that provides the necessary nutrients to thousands of elderly individuals both in-home and on-site.
This wasn’t even part of a masters thesis, but am thinking about finding a way to make it a start to my masters thesis…
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
I was doing a boatload of volunteer work at St Vincent De Paul a while back.
The manager of their food redistribution center told me that they estimate about 250,000 people go to bed hungry in OC every night. I think about that every time I drive north on the 55 and pass by that Lamborghini dealership.
it's ridiculous
that these people are capable of buying 100k+ Lambo’s/ferrari’s/benz/beemers but not bat an eye at the growing phenomenon of starving elderly. dont get me wrong- im not saying that they shouldn’t be allowed to spend they’re hard earned/inherited money as they seem fit. i just think that there should be a social conscious making the concerns of our aging population the forefront.
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
The Lambo dealership closed 6+ months ago...
Bankruptcy, even though the guy had quite a bit of business, from what I heard.
In a year of such turmoil, whining still abounds.

alumni from csuf
soc major gero minor. im trying to get into csuf’s gero master program and find a job!
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
With my grades and a few "Ws" on my transcript
I could only get a masters from an online diploma mill. lol
RIP Nick Adenhart
haha
my grades were not the best, 2.7 but i do have really good letters of rec- one of which is the dean of the department and the other is the chair of the admission committee.
IMO unless you are getting into the academia world where you get your masters from doesnt matter.
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
I hope you get in!
Besides the letters of recommendation, that 20 page research paper will probably help!
I am currently a Soc major btw.
RIP Nick Adenhart
where at?
and thanks! that paper will definitely get my foot in the door. i will probably use it as a basis for the masters program (if i get in- dont want to jinx it)
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
right on
i was going to transfer to StDSU from fjc but realized i would have partied way to hard and failed out of college.
im having a hard time getting a job up in orange county tho, apparently being a soc major is making it difficult for me…
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
It seems like everyone is having trouble finding a job these days!
I really don’t want to think about it once I graduate, but I will have to deal with it eventually.
I get easily distracted, so SDSU wouldn’t have been good for me either!
RIP Nick Adenhart
the only job offers
i have been getting are in the $9/hour range, which i find as an insult but thats just me
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
I understand that it sucks after all that hard work at school
Hopefully things will get better.
RIP Nick Adenhart
they should...
a masters degree will help
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."

UCSD
Is broken up into 6 different colleges which have different GE focuses & campuses.
Sixth is the newest one & still lacks a proper name.
I think.

i was going to do my internship there but found out late that i skipped through a loop-hole and didn’t need an internship. ah the joys of having a new prof as part of the graduation committee….

i am currently writing a research paper on the career of a GM
and the path to becoming a major league GM.
anyone have any helpful tips?
They should rename Angel Stadium to "Heaven"
Here's an interesting article I read awhile back

My toughest recent assignment?
unfucking 1500 account files. in a week. by hand.
This bullpen collapses faster than the Austro-Hungarian Empire
I had to write a short paper on finding moral knowledge in literature
It wasn’t that difficult, but it’s been somewhat of an easy semester for me. Hey, I’m not complaining here!
I have nothing important to say.
Toughest assignment lately?

I got some.......
start right now putting like 20-30 dollars per paycheck in a baby fund.(we used a baby wipe box to put the cash in.)..and any other unexpected income….some one recomended it to me…….and we had a few hundred dollars saved up by the time the baby came……..that way you have the money already saved up to purchase things that you dont get from any possible shower party……….plus you can never ever have too many diapers.

Been doing that a little, although we could probably be more consistent about it.
10-4 on the diapers.
Now, still waiting to see if ladybug’s advice will be serious like yours or something more like “drink heavily.” I did give her a pretty decent setup after all.

Dude...you are SOOOOOO screwed...
…booze won’t even make a dent.
I would suggest those days lounging on the velour divan while sucking down choclate mint ice cream in a silk robe and over…OVER!
Actually, having children is as enjoyable as…ummmm…marriage! Just slightly…messier.
Be prepared for humility beyond – well beyond – your lowest expectations.
You’ll do great. An investment in pre-paid psychological counseling services is a good idea, and bio-hazard gear, and I seriously thought of buying stock in Pampers…and Advil…and sleeping pills… and Starbuck’s…I never found an adequate headphones…couldn’t seem to find a store selling patience either…
Really, it’s a piece of cake…with a scoop of mint chip…and little fingers running through the cake, ice cream, then your hair…Ah, the memories!
The best advice I can give you is to ignore all the advice you are gonna get.

You know it's a boy for sure?
If it’s a girl… buy a shotgun… or some big knives (think machetes) and a sharpening stone.

BTW, I'm only half-joking.
One of the first things I did after my first daughter was born was apologize to my father-in-law, because all of a sudden, I understood why I had irritated him so much.
Angels fan since '67
No no no no no...
…shotguns are effective only up to…200-300 hundred yards.
Invest in a sniper rifle.
And on your daughters first date, be sure to show this prized posession to the young “man”…and have him look at how WELL the scope magnifies objects at great distances…even say…acorn sized nuts!
Show him a bullet…in fact have him hold it in his hand. Point out the hardened metal tip of the bullet…or if hollow points, be sure to explain the small entry wound but the GIANT GAPING exit wounds. Ha ha!!!
Then give him a kinda sly, kinda wild-eyed grin and take out your cleaning kit and start cleaning the bore very, very slowly and methodically.
Better than a voodoo doll…
That was what the 'chete and sharpening stone are for
There’s just something about the sound of stone on steel…..
Angels fan since '67
Boudreaux's Butt Paste
miracle shit!!
and I’m with Stirrups….ignore all the advice you get. Say “thanks” and then do what you think you need to do

I gotta confess, it's been a pretty good run lately.
The toughest thing I had to do in the past couple of weeks was to choose between a 5th mai tai and THEN a walk on the beach in Oahu, or do the walk first and then have that 5th mai tai.
why not have the 5th mai tai on the walk..............
then have the 6th when you get done? :-)

Wise decision
It’s like a candy store for sports fans. They’ve recently added this awesome “Scoreboard” feature that I’ve been dreaming about for years. Whenever you’re on a sports channel, press the round red button and it pulls up all the scores for the day’s games in all the major sports. Click “Watch Now” and it takes you to the channel it’s broadcast on. I swear I had that idea about 5 years ago…
by ReggieBullits on May 6, 2009 2:09 PM PDT up reply actions

thanks for the head’s up!

Love Directv
And the scoreboard feature. Left cable almost ten years ago, and haven’t regretted it at all.

I have 10 TV's in my house...
so isn’t DirecTV going to cost me an arm and a leg to get going on all my TV’s?

10 TV'S???
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
Yea
Having done the DirecTV sales bit for about a month.
Each TV needs a box on it and DirecTV will only comp you 4 standard boxes or 1 uprgraded box plus 3 standards.
Each extra box’ll run you between $70 – 200 up front.

So, Fiend, help me out here.
The one complaint I have about DTV is the quality of their boxes. I have gone through 3. The one I have now still can surprise us every few months by rebooting itself randomly.
Is this chronic throughout the DTV empire?
I've experienced the random reboot
But it’s not so sever that I’ve had to get a new box.
by ReggieBullits on May 6, 2009 4:55 PM PDT up reply actions
The one prior to the one I have now got pretty bad, so I called.
The service people declared that the box was mine, and that if I wanted a new one I had to buy a new one. I had two choices: new or refurbished. I chose refurbished (since I expect to replace it altogether once I switch everything to HD). The refurbished one arrived with the same problem albeit far, far less frequently. I can live with it.
That doesn't sound right
The way it was explained to me, and pretty clearly, is that you boxes are LEASED and DirecTV expects them back at the end of your service.
I was told that the reason your box was leased was so that they could fix any problems with a box.
You’re probably also paying a $5/month lease fee for every additional box past the first one, so I don’t know where they get off telling you the box is yours.
I’d double check your contract, but that sounds wrong to me.

Tough assignment
Paying for UCSD whilst simultaneously paying auto insurance for two teenages.
Angels fan since '67
i have a friend that is going to chapman
he is paying something like 19k per quarter. OUCH! state school’s are the best bang for your buck IMO
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
I agree that State school's are the best way to go financially
I also applied to CSUB and CSUF, but family pressures somewhat persuaded me to go UCSD. It’s a nice campus, but not worth the cost IMO unless one is big into superficial things such as the name of the school like my mom and sister are.
RIP Nick Adenhart
ok i might have been a little off
i just asked what he pays. 1200 per class x 4 classes= 4800 per quarter
sorry for the miss guided info up top, i was going off the top of my head- could have sworn that’s what he said.
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
Chapman
gives most of it’s students financial aid packages that bring the cost down all around.
I think We (my parents & I) paid about $8 000/semester (Chapman does semesters not quarters) up front and had grants & subsidized loans cover the rest.

good call
i thought they were on the quarter system but i guess im wrong. thanks for the enlightenment!
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
Yeah, that's more like it.
I know of several local families with daughters who each got full rides to Chapman. The stats against have got to be pretty high, therefore Chapman would have to be highly endowed to make that a reality. I do believe that it actually is. Donald Bren being a chief donor.
The notion that Chapman would have been charging DOUBLE what the prevailing rate was for top shelf local and national private universities was a shock (born out to be a simple mistake – whew!), and the idea that anybody would pay double for Chapman, instead of half the Chapman rate for more premier institutions was just a little more than I could handle (and a moot point, as it turns out.)
Yeah but
My daughter worked so hard in HS (4.2 average or something insane like that) that we just couldn’t tell her, “Pick Cal State, or go to Pierce for two years.”.

she should get some scholarships
so going to an elite school isnt too far out of the question.
"Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun you would've caught that ball."
She was a bookworm, not into campus activiites,
Is the wrong ethnicity, we make too much, and she doesn’t know what she wants to major in.
Most of the scholarships are for “left handed $ETHNICITY” or “students who want to study $SUBJECT”.

I believe UC is considering making controversial changes to admissions policies in a few years
Which would allow some students from underrepresented groups to be admitted without having to meet all UC academic requirements.

You misunderstand.
She got in… it’s the financial aid that was the issue.
And by all that’s holy, I hope you’re wrong.

Ha! Pierce College!!
I went there for 2 years..a long time ago mid-70’s. Great campus…beautiful women. Yeah baby!!!

toughest assignment lately?
i took over as the drummer for a band, and had to learn 10 new songs in a week before my first show, which was a battle of the bands judged by record label reps and management groups.
that was pretty intense.
Thank you, Nick Adenhart. You will always be remembered. #34
