Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!

GMJ batting .500 for the game.

3 pitches standing there watching, and
3 pitches flailing at thin air.

by Stirrups on May 6, 2009 8:43 PM PDT reply actions

it's games like this I like to remind myself

Every team wins 1/3 of their games and loses 1/3 of their games… it’s what you do in the other 3rd that matters…

by MH252525 on May 6, 2009 8:44 PM PDT reply actions

10 pitches, 9 strikes. I was just noticing the same thing.

Just go up there and hum strikes. It’s not like the Halos are going to threaten to do anything with them tonight anyway.

You have to leave the house in order to get into line for the midnight showing.

So you should have to split about the 8th. the clock ticks. Do you wait or do you go?

oh im not going to the midnight showing. 7pm tomorrow.

If it makes you feel any better, I haven't seen any either

And I don’t have kids. Though I watched Ninth Gate the other night, but that’s not new. Still like it though…

This past weekend...

Mrs Sothball the ever beautiful Mrs. Sothball and I watched “The Godfather”…I had forgotten just how good it was. What a well-crafted movie!!!

We also watched “Slumdog Millionaire”…interesting movie. For whatever reason, I really liked the music.

by sothball on May 6, 2009 9:04 PM PDT up reply actions

It is my long-held personal opinion, tightly held and defended to the death, that

The Godfather is the one absolutely perfect film ever made. Every. Friggin. Frame.

by Stirrups on May 6, 2009 9:05 PM PDT up reply actions

also

The Rock

Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!

by teopeht on May 6, 2009 9:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah...I understand why.

I do not recall seeing it since 1980?…can’t quite remember. The wedding scenes were…just…phenomenal. I truly felt i was a part of a big fat Italian wedding party. Friggin great movie…

by sothball on May 6, 2009 9:08 PM PDT up reply actions

The hospital scene.

When Enzo the baker is standing outside on the steps in an overcoat under dim lights, defenseless, and stares down a car full of mobsters armed to the teeth. He doesn’t even realize what he has done, or how close to death he was. The tension drips from the screen. Every element of that scene is spot on perfect and the total is waaaay beyond the sum of each brilliant part.

by Stirrups on May 6, 2009 9:14 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah..it as Michael Corleonethat stands on the steps with him...

…after showing him how to “appear” to have a gun in his pocket. Yup…one of the little details of the movie that is totally convincing.

by sothball on May 6, 2009 9:18 PM PDT up reply actions

And the camera placement is just distant enough to compel us, the audience,

to identify with the confusion of the mobsters because we cannot really discern the truth, which is in conflict with the fact that we DO know the truth.

Not an accident.

by Stirrups on May 6, 2009 9:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Saw Slumdog Millionaire earlier this year and loved it

Mainly because it reminded me of living over in that part of the world. They did not, however, translate the dialogue verbatim. There were several f-bombs that did not appear in the subtitles. Mairey choot!

by Big Easy Halofan on May 6, 2009 9:09 PM PDT up reply actions

LOL...

…kinda like in "Airplane where the ’bro’s say “…shiiiiiit…” and the sub-title says “Darn!”.

by sothball on May 6, 2009 9:11 PM PDT up reply actions

lots of "looks like"s

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines

Another film that had deceptive subtitles is Borat

When he speaks ‘Kazakshtani’ he is actually speaking Hebrew, and the subtitles are completely off from what he is saying. Makes it even more hilarious for about the .1 percent of the population that understands hebrew.

Amen 'bro...

…hate to say it, but I try to avoid thinking about it. Still too painful. I keep getting the image of his dad standing at his locker….

I had an incident when I lived in Ohio

when a 5 yr old was brought in DOA to the ER. I was a couple weeks pregnant and hormonal as it was. I bawled all day and when I picked up my oldest at his after school care, I told him…just let me hold you and cry. The mother’s cries of “wake up, stop goofing off like this, wake up” still resonate in my brain. I can not fathom that pain

RIP Nick

by ladybug on May 6, 2009 9:25 PM PDT up reply actions

I feel for you. That is so, so painful.

I ust ca’t imagine the depth of the parent’s pain.
In January, 2008…good friends of ours lost their son to cancer. He had battled it for 4 years. He died at the tender age of 18.
It’s hard to describe how it’s affected them. It’s like a big gash down the middle of their foreheads…they are still… zombified? There are just no words…

TD. Followed by...

Kickoff that the return specialists lets roll towards the sideline back on his own 3, letting the ball go out of bounds for the penalty. But then, just before it does, one of the players on the kicking squad scoops it up and falls into the end zone. Another 7 points and zero time off of the clock.
