Weaver Completes Domination Of Toronto, Angels Win

Final Score in Los Angeles of Anaheim: Angels 6, Blue Jays 1

Rev Halofan reporting: It was a retro night celebration that saw Angels players don circa- 1980 uniforms, fans get free 1980 hats and scoreboard player introductions feature photoshopped caricatures of contemporary Blue Jays and Angels as 80s icons. But Jered Weaver spoiled the theme and pitched more like circa-1970s Angel Nolan Ryan.

Weaver pitched a Complete Game 3-Hitter, allowing a solo homerun and striking out 8. On a night that featured Neutron Dance and Electric Avenue, Weaver simply Whipped it good.

The Angels offense looked sparky one night after facing Roy Halladay. DH Mike Napoli and 1B Kendry Morales homered, Chone Figgins was 3 for 4 and Maicer Izturis had 2 RBI.

No Angel reliever even bothered to take off the pullover to warm up and show off the classic 1980s Angels pullover, featuring a stretched San-Serif font and yellow halo. For one night they looked like the California Angels, they pitched like the California Angels and they hit as if Reggie and Bobby Grich were making life easy for Mike Witt.

To complete this Back to the Future theme, former divisional rival Kansas City comes to town for three game series beginning Friday night. In first place and bringing baseball's best pitcher to the mound, it will not be Brett and Saberhagen, but Teahen and Greinke will be taken more seriously than the powder blue memories of yesteryear.

But please, guys, if someone looks like they might go for a CG, dont mention it during the game thread — you’ll jinx it

i believe there was a TPS report regarding perfect games

you do not talk about perfect games. ever.

Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!

+1

CG’s are more as relief for the bullpen (no pun intended) and can be talked about loudly.

Perfect games or no-hitters…thats a completely different story that gets ignored “en total” until the third out in the ninth.

What if it's a 0-0 game?

Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.

Weave had that high cheese workin

You were just expecting him to throw that big curve.

I got a fever and the only prescription is... more Kowbell!

Just got back from the field and checked the boxscore

Weaver, you freakin’ stud you. Complete game. Don’t see those too often anymore.

Angel Pitching (Adenhart), Angel Defense - get past that.

What a beast!

The way Weaver pitched today reminded me of his rookie year. Weaver still has so much potential.

I have been to 3 Jered Weaver milestones now...

1. Pro Debut – Rancho vs Lake Elsinore (win)
2. Major League Debut (win)
3. First Major League Complete Game (win)

Hope I also get to see Jered Weaver’s future milestones:
1. 20th win in a season
and
2. Game 7 win in a World Series
and
3. No hitter (with a WIN)

Make some noise already people. Come on!

Great game for Weaver

Great to see the classic unis, and a great bounce back win.

GREAT game

Well done Weaver. You were Rockin that. Even when lackey returns, who’s this staffs Ace? Weaver? Saunders? Lackey? Tough call…Can’t wait til the Greinke battle.

Self-realization. I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "I drank what?"

The Figgy Mr T was pretty funny.

However, I thought he should have had his mug-shot superimposed over Gary Coleman’s in Diff’rent Strokes. Figgy as Arnold with Reggie Willits as “Willis.” Fig could have been sayin’ “whatchu talkin’ ’bout Willits?”

Scottnak is going "Alex Rios" on us...

Instead of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, it was “Alex Rios’ Day Off” for Alex Rios’ 80’s night picture on the big screen… It was funny.
