Who is going and Who is staying?
It’s a question that needs to be brought up. When all the big arms come back who goes down. With Santana and Lackey coming back there are 2 arms that have to go. The scenario I see going down is that Palmer stays. He has been tough on the road as well as at home. Pitching against top teams and doing it well. Loux would be a great addition to the bullpen. I think they could send Bulger down and Loux to the pen. They are the only 2 arms that came up that would be worth keeping around.
Also a lot of fans want Wood back. They are still playing in Salt Lake; Wood has hit his 5th HR in AAA this year. On top of that he has only played half the season there. While up with the team he has hit well in the opportunities given to him. His average may not be the best but the outs he made were hit hard. I don’t think you can get rid of Figgins, he is an above average fielder and he is one of the best leadoff hitters around in the AL right now. I would like to see Wood come up and play Short; move Izzy to second on Kendrick’s nights off and let Aybar back Wood up. Plus Wood can play Third as well, so you can let Figgins have a day off and still be covered on the defense. I don’t know how likely this will be but I see our offence getting better everyday. We just faced the best pitcher in baseball right now and every player hit the ball hard at least once. If we can do that to him we can hit anybody. This team has not been an offensive team for a long time and I think we could still get better. I am happy with the team Soch is putting out their everyday, but I am a fan and I will always want more.

Bulger going down
Loux to the bullpen for awhile, until Big Thunder & Voodoo (start up the plot writers, sounds like a move title here) get their arms good and warmed up.
loux
has the force

Aren't Loux and Bulger out of options?
And Palmer isn’t, I believe. If I’m right, than surely Loux will be the fifth starter and Palmer will go back to Salt Lake.

well if that is the case.
i do not want to see Loux leave the big league team. i think he belongs here. he has shown that he can get guys out and has the stuff to stick around. that is why i think he would be a great addition to the pen.

Much as I like Wood
No way in hell he gets that out for Saunders in the 8th tonite.
Angels fan since '67
i love Figgy
i dont want to see him go. i would love to see him get resigned to a multi year deal. maybe 5 years 45 mil. i want to see Wood up as well. he needs to play a full season and from what i have seen he is a great shortstop. i just dont see him playing 3rd if Figgy is on the team. i want to see them both on the team at the same time.

That's the man-crush talking
i would love to see him get resigned to a multi year deal. maybe 5 years 45 mil.
One doesn’t give a guaranteed 5-year deal to a player who will be 32 before the first pitch of Spring Training in 2010, and whose chief asset remains to be his legs. If he hit like Abreu, I’d say do the deal now. But Figgins is streaky, he plays a good 3B but he’s out of position, and he’s blocking a player who stands to be both an offensive threat and a better than average glove at that position.
The Angels might make an offer for one or two years, but that would be the limit. There are too many IF options for the team in 2010 and beyond.

Matt "refuse to lose" Palmer has ended up out gritting Loux amazingly.
I will be surprised if Soth goes with anyone else but Palmer the way he is pitching right now.
red floyd is right about Wood, that’s why he is back in Salt Lake. Wood won’t be a starting infielder this year over the more experienced players we have now unless there are injuries.
I am The Iron Man.
Bulger and Loux are out of options
But I see them letting Bulger fall to waivers and putting Loux in the pen. Given Mose’s past performance out of the pen I see Palmer keeping the 5th spot for now. Speaking of which have there been any updates to Mose’s injury?
Personally I'd like it to be Loux. But that's because I'm an M's fan.

I really don't know why you have an opinion on this..
the M’s will be fighting with the Rangers and A’s for last place soon enough.
I don’t care how good Hernandez and Bedard are – that offense is a friggin’ train wreck.
Thank you, Bill Bavasi.

You'd be surprised. The Angels were picked 2nd in the West.
Oakland has suffered a lot of big injuries, though. But so have you guys. If the M’s can get production out of Beltre and Junior, we’ll be in good shape. Besides, our Aussie southpaw will be back to replace our fill-in 5 guy, and Silva is out of the rotation.
But then again, Lackey is soon to return….

The Angels were picked 2nd in the west... Who, exactly, picked them 2nd?
1 pundit in every dozen? What about the other 11? How many of those pundits / analysts / mystics picked the Mariners to finish last?

damn got the dates wrong
This is 2009, not spring training 2008 when your Mariners were picked to be World Champs or something by the media.
but your post don’t have no backbone. The A’ss are now hurt so … We don’t have a fifth starter (how many do you need?) … but when you get Lackey back.
What are you trying to say? When we come back at full force we will only be in second place? Are we not there now? With only a team at half strength?
Honey Roy has to stay
I would think – he has had the strongest outings of the bunch. Bulger would fall victim to the waiver wire is my guess.
We need a pitcher...not a DL itcher!
I forgot about Rodriguez
Here’s my best guess: Rodriguez and Ortega will get sent down when Lackey and Santana come back; Loux goes to the pen, and Palmer stays in the rotation. Soth will continue to evaluate Bulger and Speier while waiting for Moseley to come back. What happens then is anyone’s guess.

I don't know if you're right,
but what you wrote finally sounds like sanity to me. Bulger is a considerable talent with his strike out capabilities. He’s had some bad luck and some brain cramps that the coaches are trying to exorcise, but you cannot deny his strike out numbers. Surely he would not make it through waivers.
Thanks for doing the leg work on Bulger
I tend to fly by the seat of my pants on these things, but yeah, it’s too early to give up on him—or Speier, for that matter. As bad as they’ve been, neither has quite done the Esteban Yan thing yet. I would expect that they’d rather send Palmer back down, should it come to that, than lose outright someone that they think can still contribute.
In memoriam Nick Adenhart
After looking at his stats.
Bulger is a career 10 K/9 IP. Its very good, if you want to look up someone that has been dominant for many years you can and they will be around 11 or 12K/9 IP. Take Randy Johnson he was around 12K/IP in his prime. 10 for his career. If that is a good stat. The only thing I have against him is he is young and inexperienced so he is going to make mistakes. You have to deal with that and let him learn.

He's not young...
he’s 30. He has been a AAAA pitcher for four + years now. I think he deserves till the All-Star Break to figure it out because he could be a dominating force in the pen if he gets the control dialed in at this level.

age is meaningless
young as in not experienced with the Majors.
Well, then Mike should have said that.
When it is said that, “he is young and inexperienced”, that is false.
To say he lacks experience at the major league level is the most accurate way to talk about Bulger. He is a 30 year old with a lot of minor league experience. That isn’t the same as a 21 year old without that extensive AAA and AAAA experience.
Just sayin’, he isn’t “young” in the way Mike insinuated – the chances of a 30 year old with Bulger’s track record figuring it out are pretty high – higher than a 21 y/o kid in AAA I think.

Well, then sorry for assuming
Honestly i figured that the fans of this team were smart enough to know that when I said young and inexperienced they would understand that i didn’t really mean his birth year. In addition to that you are talking about a league that average age is around 28. So he is just above the average. He is in his 5th season as a big league pitcher, on top of that he still didn’t pitch much those years.
So Jim I will be sure to be more specific next time.

Sounds about right, Sosh has done it before
with Saunders a couple of seasons ago. Now look at what he has become.
I think you are right
I didn’t really get into the pen because there are so many options there. The Angels will want to keep Loux and if that means to keep him they will. The only problem with Speier is that he has had a slow start and been hurt. How much of that is the injury? The pen gets better every night. I think it will be a while before they go and blow a big lead again. Everything if falling into place just as Soth has told everyone it will. Maybe we should just continue to trust our manager and believe what he is telling us.

Bullpen? We don't need no stinkin' Bullpen!
Except maybe DO for those games that go to extras.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
OT, but here's a sign things are returning to normal

ANTHONY ORTEGA
is the name of the “other guy who got hammered by the blue jays.” And that “other guy” pitched one helluva game against the Skanks.
Dont disrespect Ortega. Use his name. Besides, he’ll be in the running for a starting job next year when we lose Lackey.

Yeah
I was thinking that was pretty wrong of me. He is a better pitcher then I am. The reason I did it was because I don’t think he is in the running this year. I do think he will be next year.

Ortega is going down...
for sure, i think as long as palmer stays as hot as he is he’ll be the 5th guy, Loux could be very effective as a situational guy… esp. with men on base that sinker could construct a very timely DP in certain situations.
