Escobar No Good in Triple-A
Escobar was anything but impressive in his start for the SLC Bees. As the OC Register Angels blog reports:
He [Escobar] allowed five runs (four earned, one unearned on his own error) on eight hits, two walks and a hit batter and only struck out one. He threw 87 pitches, almost split down the middle balls-and-strikes (41 balls, 46 strikes).
Do the Angels bring him up anyways or do they give him another start in the minors? Who knows. However, it certainly looks like Matt Palmer might be sticking around in the rotation for a bit longer.

Well how was his velocity and movement?
Alot of times rehab assignments are just to see how things are going and not necessarily to win. It would be alot more telling to see his movement and velocity and see how he feels tomorrow and after the game to see how well it actually went.
That'll only happen if that one prospect is the second coming of Christ and redemption for mankind can only be achieved by smacking many balls out of the yard.

A G R E E
If he was touching 95+ on his fastball and was tweaking a slider or curve for movement experimentation, that is a far cry from straight-as-a-rope 89 MPH fastballs and sinkerballs that stayed up.

It 'aint broke with Palmer at the 5.
I’m more concerned about Ervin and the loss of velocity.
"We have a great closer, one of the best in the game, and I wouldn’t trade him for anyone else." (Matt Palmer, after the latest Fuentes meltdown)

I like Palmer at 5
Our need isn’t starting pitching. Our need is bullpen help. Santana could eat 2-3 innings in the Bullpen and not affect our rotation. I think the Angels should be working Escobar into the bullpen.

develop his arm strength, give him a chance at...
the starting rotation (only to placate him) and then put him in the pen, keep fats palmer in the rotation.

Put him in the pen NOW!
His previous start for SLC, he threw 76 pitches and topped out at 95mph. In yesterday’s, he still touched 94, but the offspeed stuff wasn’t working. If we put him in the pen, he can rely on his 2 best pitches for a while, and work on the others in side sessions. We desperately need him in the pen.

Good point.
I’m convinced that’s what Dondo needs, a veteran who speaks Spanish. I hope Sosh is reading this thread. Escobar seems like a very personable guy too, the kind of guy that would take a young fledgling under his wing, let him drive one his Maseratis, help him build a Myspace profile…

Don’t the pen bosses speak Spanish? Steve Soliz and Orlando Mercado.
I love this team.
