by mustard_man on Jun 11, 2009 6:47 PM PDT up reply actions

ok so I just got home and looked at the game log

and it looks like the Top of the 1st is a microcosm for the whole year.

C Figgins singled to right. 0 0
C Figgins caught stealing second, catcher to shortstop. 0 0
B Abreu walked. 0 0
T Hunter walked, B Abreu to second. 0 0
V Guerrero flied out to right. 0 0
J Rivera walked, B Abreu to third, T Hunter to second. 0 0
R Quinlan struck out swinging.

Basically Figgy getting on base and doing a lot better than people give him credit for.
Then the Angels making an out on the bases which they do FAR too much. Hunter doing well. Vlad failing miserably. Rivera doing well. And then a guy that has no right to even be playing in the minors right now ends the bases loaded threat.

Does Soth realize Q’s OPS against lefties this year is hovering right around .300? WTF Soth call up Wood or S-Rod or just play K-Mo. This is ridiculous.

I listen to Colin Coherd in the morning sometimes

and one thing he said is that he would NEVER want a long term contract. He needs short term contracts to stay motivated and do his best.

All of a sudden Soth gets a lifetime contract and we start hearing rumblings from one of our leaders that things in the clubhouse are deteriorating…. coincidence?

by MH252525 on Jun 11, 2009 6:59 PM PDT reply actions

I don’t know, some people are like Colin, some people are not. I work a lot better when I’m not stressed about making my next mortgage payment. I don’t think Scioscia’s problem is a lack of motivation, I think he’s just stumbled into some bad moves this year because he has philosophical differences with you and me.

Saving countless runs with my defense.

by Sam Miller OCR on Jun 11, 2009 7:01 PM PDT up reply actions

This. Look, strategically I could argue with scioscia for days, but I still think he’s one of the best managers in the game. A huge part of managing has nothing to do with who you bring in to face a lefty in the seventh inning.

Saving countless runs with my defense.

by Sam Miller OCR on Jun 11, 2009 7:03 PM PDT up reply actions

I think the biggest problem is offensive philosophy

I mean I can think of a lot of pitchers the Angels have over the years taken off the trash dump and turned into serviceable pitchers. Right now I can’t think of a single hitter that sucked and all of a sudden Hatcher got something out of.

I hate colin. He personifies style and loudness over intelligence.

and I agree with the other respondent that people are motivated different ways, and I think Scioscia is a steady-state guy that wouldn’t let a contract make that much of a difference. before the extension he still had a few years left and was doing fine.
