it could be
If the starting pitching doesn’t get healthy. Lackey isn’t ready yet. Santana isn’t ready yet. But they’re both pitching. One of three things will happen: (1) they will continue to be ineffective; (2) they’ll wind up back on the DL; (3) they will return to health eventually and pitch effectively. I’m not confident that #3 will happen.

We've now entered "Bizarro World"

I think Hunter would disagree with that statement
"I see great things in baseball. It's our game, the American game. It will repair our losses and be a blessing to us."
I like Hunter and all
But he seems more the cheerleader, fun to be around guy. But when it ain’t fun he has no job.
Not the kind of guy to bring the team, or mates out of a funk. Look at Kendrick.
The pitching staff is never in his conversations, and you never see him talking to any of the staff. And that is where the problems are.
Now that was embarrassing
get on base any way we can
This season just seems jinxed. If it can go wrong, it does

ok so I just got home and looked at the game log
and it looks like the Top of the 1st is a microcosm for the whole year.
C Figgins singled to right. 0 0
C Figgins caught stealing second, catcher to shortstop. 0 0
B Abreu walked. 0 0
T Hunter walked, B Abreu to second. 0 0
V Guerrero flied out to right. 0 0
J Rivera walked, B Abreu to third, T Hunter to second. 0 0
R Quinlan struck out swinging.
Basically Figgy getting on base and doing a lot better than people give him credit for.
Then the Angels making an out on the bases which they do FAR too much. Hunter doing well. Vlad failing miserably. Rivera doing well. And then a guy that has no right to even be playing in the minors right now ends the bases loaded threat.
Does Soth realize Q’s OPS against lefties this year is hovering right around .300? WTF Soth call up Wood or S-Rod or just play K-Mo. This is ridiculous.

seeing Q play makes me physically ill
and I’m dead serious, the guy just plain sucks
how???
his OPS is like 530. He basically hits like Jeff Mathis except he doesn’t catch, can’t run and his d is pretty bad
i think it's the fact that
we are starting guys like quinlan, when offense is a huge issue
by Quinlan's Goofy Swing on Jun 11, 2009 6:52 PM PDT up reply actions
yes exactly...
we aren’t scoring runs so lets put in a guy that has done nothing for 2 and a half years. WTF Soth
he was a feel good story a few years ago
when miraculously he was able to get results with that special swing.
now it’s flat out painful to watch.
he hits nothing hard, not even foul
by Quinlan's Goofy Swing on Jun 11, 2009 6:50 PM PDT up reply actions
I mean
the guy is throwing 86 mph, and Q is falling all over himself just to foul it off
by Quinlan's Goofy Swing on Jun 11, 2009 6:51 PM PDT reply actions
TY so I'm not the only one noticing it
Him starting against Price is borderline inane, I think Q’s biggest supporters would even say he’s more of an offspeed hitter. He’s never really been a great fastball hitter.
i'm not a q supporter
i think his swing is amateurish.
he short arms his throws.
He runs like a mutation of fred flintstone and a trex.
However, he can stand at about 7 positions, so that’s cool

key word- stands
He doesn’t run. He Stands.

If we weren't down by 6 in the 8th
that might have benn a good AB
This season just seems jinxed. If it can go wrong, it does
Why do we have
So many pitchers batting in our lineup?
c'mon Chopper
see what you can do two games in a row

I listen to Colin Coherd in the morning sometimes
and one thing he said is that he would NEVER want a long term contract. He needs short term contracts to stay motivated and do his best.
All of a sudden Soth gets a lifetime contract and we start hearing rumblings from one of our leaders that things in the clubhouse are deteriorating…. coincidence?
I don’t know, some people are like Colin, some people are not. I work a lot better when I’m not stressed about making my next mortgage payment. I don’t think Scioscia’s problem is a lack of motivation, I think he’s just stumbled into some bad moves this year because he has philosophical differences with you and me.

This. Look, strategically I could argue with scioscia for days, but I still think he’s one of the best managers in the game. A huge part of managing has nothing to do with who you bring in to face a lefty in the seventh inning.

I think the biggest problem is offensive philosophy
I mean I can think of a lot of pitchers the Angels have over the years taken off the trash dump and turned into serviceable pitchers. Right now I can’t think of a single hitter that sucked and all of a sudden Hatcher got something out of.
Good point.

And the team is not
producing, and not following the plans that they had since the end of last season.
Players getting hurt
Players not up to par
Players passing away
blah, blah, blah
They relied on Abreu & Vlad
for power.
2 big gambles really.
The starting pitching has been fine, until santana and lackey came back.
The bullpen has been junk, and TATERED!
MY GOD THOMPSON, DIG A HOLE BUDDY

players producing in AAA not being given chances
when GMJ and Q and Mathis continue to play
refusing to use fuentes
in the 8th inning against a lefty
cost us 2 games if he was used instead of bulger arguably
by Quinlan's Goofy Swing on Jun 11, 2009 7:07 PM PDT up reply actions
amen to that
yea pitch Fuentes against the Twins top lefties. Soth is way too rigid when it comes to the bullpen.
Coherd is a douche cake.
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.

Where'd you hear things in the clubhouse are deteriorating?
"I see great things in baseball. It's our game, the American game. It will repair our losses and be a blessing to us."
Lackey is in a contract year.
And can’t throw a baseball.

it's a NL lineup
with no bullpen.
Can’t be too happy in there right now, not even taking the injuries and tragedy into accoutn.
by Quinlan's Goofy Swing on Jun 11, 2009 7:04 PM PDT up reply actions
I think what Lackey said can be twisted into anything someone wants to hear
I saw a bunch of ‘no comment’s
I hate colin. He personifies style and loudness over intelligence.
and I agree with the other respondent that people are motivated different ways, and I think Scioscia is a steady-state guy that wouldn’t let a contract make that much of a difference. before the extension he still had a few years left and was doing fine.
they have more homers than
we have singles this game?

I've been watching baseball since I was 5 years old (1984)
I have never seen a bullpen as bad as ours is this year. Words cannot describe how awful it is
RIP Nick. We will miss you!
my first marraige was in 1984
come to think of it…pretty Orwellian
This season just seems jinxed. If it can go wrong, it does
im 27 tomorrow and single, no prospects. Any advice?
I’m depressed, but maybe I should be happy. At the very least I’ll know the most important words are “Pre-nup”
Their bullpen is worse?
I thought our bullpen ERA was the highest in baseball right now
RIP Nick. We will miss you!
What a bummer
Beyond wins and losses, I seriously root for Thompson.
Saving countless runs with my defense.
Man imagine if the Angels had signed Juan Cruz
when all it would have cost them was their 2nd round pick. A 5.63 ERA would look pretty good right about now wouldn’t it…..
poor Rich
I’m really pulling so much for him. What’s the saying? It’s hard to soar with the eagles when you are playing with the turkeys?
it's harder when you go two days in a row
This season just seems jinxed. If it can go wrong, it does
I've lost all faith in this season
