Escobar Headed to the Bullpen

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said before today’s game in Tampa Bay that Kelvim Escobar will be moved to the bullpen due to a sore shoulder that could affect his stamina. In addition, Scioscia said Escobar would be unavailable to pitch until the middle of next week.

OH WOW

Will he EVER get healthy?! Jeez

Mmmm..

Hate to say it, but I didn’t expect this to go much better than this.

His injury is a big deal. Doctors have figured out how to deal with the elbow (generally) the shoulder is different and much tougher to repair.

He got further than I expected him to – so good for him.

RIP Nick...

Me too. Especially after I read that he was short some actual muscles in his shoulder.

Anything we get from him is a bonus.

We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.

Escobar is fine

Its our pathetic, shitty, awful, failtastic bullpen that is injured.

I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....

Not surprised.

RIP NICK ADENHART

This makes it 3 for 3

in bringing back recovering pitchers too soon.

I don’t want to complain. I know that the postseason is still well within our reach. It’s just that sometimes I wonder who is in charge of the team.

Yeah, I agree to an extent.

Lackey and Santana could have used another three or so starts in AA and AAA to get command issues worked out. But, Escobar is on borrowed time as it is – so he should just be thrown out there until the arm doesn’t respond anymore. He is pitching for his life at this point – every pitch he throws might be his last.

RIP Nick...

I'm afraid you're right at this point

but do you think this was true back in Spring Training, before his setback?

Poor Escobar

So much talent, yet so little health. At least he got to pitch 5 innings this year.

RIP Nick Adenhart

It was a mistake to bring him back as a starter.

It just aggravated his shoulder. He should have been added to the pen to begin with.

Have to question a lot of managerial moves these days. Dondo down, Jepsen up. Moving someone who isn’t a reliever (Palmer) to the pen, when he was unbeaten in the rotation.

These gambles have yet to pay off.

Scioscia never took nearly enough heat for

sender WTY down in favor of his brother, or for sending Saunders down when he was our best starter, and both of those guys were legit first round talents. Why would he even blink an eye about sending a lifelong AAA pitcher to the bullpen?

Soth also didn’t take nearly enough heat for not taking the playoff series schedule that required a 4 man rotation. The Angels strength has been their starting pitching depth, which Soth help negate by choosing the schedule he did.

Palmer is up

Kelvim is in the pen

Once again, I say:

Pair up Santana and Escobar. Every 5th start Santana goes 3 and Escobar goes 3. Santana throws as hard as he can but for only 3 innings. If he has gotten through 3 on minimal pitch count, let him go 4. But in any case, Escobar steps in and pitches until he finished the 6th/7th or needs to come out for any reason, whatever comes first.

Let these guys take their time working themselves back into health and strength together.

Well, we need him in the bullpem, but we really need him starting too. Escobar proved in his return that he is still one of the best. I hope his shoulder recovers…..he’s too good to see it all end.
