Matt Palmer Magical, Angels Put Spell on Padres
Final Score in L.A. of Anaheim: Angels 11, Padres 6
Pitcher Matt Palmer became only the 2nd Angel to start his career with A Halo going 6-0, surpassing Bo Belinsky at 5-0 for sole possession of 2nd place on that list. If teammate Jered Weaver is worried about sharing the title, he will have to ask the Angel bats to spread the love as they once again came to Palmer's aid, scoring 11 runs after a long dry spell.
Of course, the Dodgers worthlessly gave up a game to Texas in pathetic fashion, losing 6-0, so the Angels remian 4.5 games behind the Rangers for 2nd place in the American League West.
Mike Scioscia benched Howie Kendrick and it paid off as starting 2Bman Maicer Izturis was 4-4- and a homerun shy of hitting for the cycle. In fact a fan robbed him of a ball that might have bounced on the short outfield wall and gone for an inside the park HR. We will never know, but the fan will never know what it was like to be among the 40,000+ on their feet as Jason Bulger got the final out to preserve Palmer's magical feat... yes... Mister Fan with the Hand was quickly escorted from the stadium.
After a closed door meeting in Tampa after a loss yesterday rendered a 4-5 road trip that seemd like it was 0-9, the players responded, Torii Hunter and Kendry Morales each homered, the Angels sent 9 men to the plate in the 4th inning and the only guy still on the road trip mindset seemed to be reliever Darren Oliver, who gave up a 2-Run homer in the 7th when the game was pretty much out of ... oh never say never with this arson squad. But not tonight!

If you understand that his value has dropped, you must also understand that it is not a good time to trade him. (“sell low” is not good business sense).
I love this team.

But...
a wise man knows when to cut his losses.
by ttsec on Jun 13, 2009 7:12 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
lol! Yeah, they’ve really had a lot of payroll lost on Howie (not). Demoting him is another way to “cut the losses”.
Or are you suggesting they CUT him altogether? Brilliant, move. Do you root for some other team that wants to pick him up on the cheap?
I love this team.

I never thought they would send him down
Who would have thought that Dondo and HK would be sent down to AAA at the beginning of the season. Big disappointments

I suspect
it will be a pitcher who’s called up, given Escobar’s limbo status (unavailable until mid-week at the earliest, possibly bound for DL).

Yes but
he still may wind up on the DL. Those same articles about the move to the pen also state that Escobar will not be available at all until the middle of next week, and may in fact go back on the DL and not to the bullpen. IF he pitches, it will be from the bullpen. IF.

What you say makes a lot of sense
and it’s consistent with the team’s MO. Pitching is the weakest aspect of the team right now. Nevertheless, in this kibitzer’s opinion it would not be the best move. Right now our offense needs help as well, Friday’s extravaganza notwithstanding. And while I can’t think of any pitcher to call up who would bring any hope for much improvement in that aspect, there are a few obvious callups who offer the promise of noticeable offensive improvement. Of these, Sean Rodriguez would seem to me to be the best fit position-wise.
There is a further consideration in my mind. Sending Howie back down was a decisive move, a grand gesture revealing the extremity of Soth’s displeasure. I’ve felt for a long time that this is precisely what the team has needed: something to dispel the obvious complacency that has set in with several of the players. For him to follow this by calling up one of the usual bullpen suspects would be a declaration of a return to business as usual; bringing up SRod or Wood, on the other hand, would at least indicate that he was willing to try something new.
Of course, that assumes that he then puts whomever he calls up in the lineup once in a while!

just got home from the game
good time tonight. both homers (Torii & Gitmo) were CRUSHED. Matty looked like he was struggling with his command (maybe the ump?), but still battled through like a champ.
Speier and Bulger both looked solid as well.
Thank you, Nick Adenhart. You will always be remembered. #34

what the hell
we can HIT? knew i should’ve stayed up for the game
Figgy shizzle gets my vote

Glad we can hit
hopefully it carries over the the ML. These next games will be huge for us we should win 12 of them. If we can maybe we will get a lot of confidence and roll. Also, now that S-Rod is coming up hopefully we sit Izturis or again bringing him up will mean nothing.
First we had a Salmon and now we have a Trout, let's see the same results.
