Weaver in the running for the American League Cy Young
Jered Weaver is on pace for his first 200 inning season of his career. Ever since he put on 10-15 pounds this off season he has been able to extend himself in games. In addition to that he has been able to get ahead of hitters more frequently than he ever has. His ERA is flirting with going under 2 and he has an outstanding 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio. His WHIP looks like that of a closer on the verge of going under 1 and his batting average against is at a very respectable .203. If his teammates continue to give him run support this season he could make a run for a 20+ win season. Jered Weaver is starting to look a lot like his 2006 rookie season when he went 11-2 with a 2.56 ERA. I don't think Greinke and the Royals have the offense to get him the amount of wins he needs to win a cy young. That realistically leaves Roy Halladay who is arguably the best pitcher in baseball but is now on the DL. Weaver could make his run right now to put himself in prime posistion to be the best pitcher in the league for 2009. We are finally starting to see the great pitcher Jered Weaver can be. Weaver is now arguably the "ace" of a pitching rotation that I think could be the best in baseball when they are all clicking like we know they can. With the offense on fire lately and the bullpen starting to pitch well Watch out Texas and the rest of the American League because here come the Angels.

He's been great, and may win 20, but I don't think he's this good
I mean, this is really good. (And I say that as someone who always thought he’d be our best pitcher this year.) Greinke and Halladay (when he’s not injured) still look to be in a different class, based on velocity & durability. But it sure is nice to see a guy who was so roundly HATED around these parts in 2008 develop into our 2009 ace.
Why Matt?
When he came up he shut down everyone. Many of us had some lofty expectations for him.
heres a link that compares the stats of all 3 mentioned in the post. Some areas Halladay and Grienke prove your point, but in some Weaver is overwhelmingly better.
And here Weaver shows that he’s pitching at that level that he showed us all in 2006. He may not be as electrtic as Grienke or as loaded as Halladay, but I think he is more than capable of keeping this up and giving them both a run for their money in the cy young voting at the end of the year.
Phys: Well, Coon doesn't have a lot of power but he's a good bunter

Oh, I have lofty expectations
But he’s pitching at Pedro Martinez level right now, which is off the charts. My heart says yes, but my head isn’t fully ready to follow.
damn

He's gonna have to fight Matt Palmer for it
and Matt es mas macho than Jared.
Torii Hunter: Best Halo Ever.
He has looked driven..
Ever since the first game after the Nick Adenhart tragedy, he just looks driven like I’ve never seen him before. I’m glad he never got traded. I think he’s going to be very good in the years to come…
I have to admit...
I always thought of Weaver as a solid #4 in the rotation, maybe a #3 at best, but this year he really has been our ace. If he ever is to win a Cy Young award, it probably would be this year.
I agree with mattwelch, he’s not in the same class as Halladay or J.Santana, but he has really grown as a pitcher this year. Looks like he may be becoming a Greg Maddux type. While Maddux never had overwhelming stuff, his craftiness and control made him a difficult pitcher to hit.

I think you have it backwards
Halladay and Santana are not in Greg Maddux’s class.
Not yet...
but I meant more in terms of “stuff.” Both of those pitchers have great stuff, but Maddux took average stuff and became a legend because of his craftiness and control.

Somebody around here has been driving this particular bandwagon for quite a while now.
“Now for one bold (but consistent) personal prediction: WTY is the next Cy Young pitcher from the Angels.”

and
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
Unfortunately,
he has to type his posts one handed because he broke his arm patting himself on the back
This season just seems jinxed. If it can go wrong, it does

Which, fortunately, he excels at. Note the proper capitalization and punctuation!

WTY =Cy Young? i could see that
as long as he doesn’t pull a Bartolo and fall off the face of the earth afterwards
Get Aybar off this team. Now.
he has really developed into the ace
and he’s having a great season. he’s one of the few bright spots on this pitching rotation.
I hate Jose Guillen.
