RevHF Live w/Biggsy Tonight at 5 PM
I will be on THE DRIVE with Jeff Biggs on AM 830 this afternoon at 5 PM until 7 PM...
...and there is STREAMING AUDIO to it!
Until then, let's visit Michael Jackson's mansion for a classic moment of guerilla art by artist Donny Miller. While Shepard Fairey is doing audience research polling to find out where next to capitalize on his demographic, Donny is speaking truth to power.
Alien vs. Predator from Donny Miller on Vimeo.
UPDATE: Wow... I posted this long before news of Michael Jackson going into cardiac arrest. Poor Farrah Fawcett having the headlines dragged away from her on a most mournful day...

Are you suggesting that Mr. Fairey is not motivated by purely artistic, noncommercial motives?
Get Aybar off this team. Now.
Yeah
because artists should starve and never make a cent.
Sorry, sarcasm kicking in.

Is the McDonald's Happy Meal Marketing committee an artist?
Because that is what Shep-F is … minus the meat.
Wait. McDonald's? Meat? When did that start happening?
Dude, really. Do society a favor and go kick Fairey’s ass for us. Or maybe start putting up slightly modified Fairey “works” as LOSE pics, and let him try to sue you for appropriation.
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
What? I don't know anything about McDonald's
and I have no idea what you’re saying here other than that you don’t like him, but I will try to explain what I meant.
I have three kids who work as different types of artists (all three have day jobs).
One of them refuses to “sell out” i.e. create art that he might have a chance of selling to a larger audience, so he just doesn’t sell it at all. He gives his stuff away and some of it has been sold by his fans. I think he’s foolish for allowing that, but I’m just the mom and he’s nearly 40.
The other two are commercial artists. They are paid for their work, when they can find it.
I was objecting to the idea that the work of artists, whether commercial or purely artistic, is not worthy of respect if the artist makes money on it, as suggested by HaloDutch, and your reply to him.
I hope that makes sense.
.... as sexy as socks on a rooster.
Your position makes sense. But in the context of Shepard Fairey it's kind of comical.
One of the most pungent aspects about Fairey is that he is dirivative, to the extreme sense that he outright absconds with the work of other people, modifies it just enough to satisfy his own personal sense of ethos (and well short of what might commonly be considered artistically creative or emotive), markets the crap out of the result in order to redirect public interest away from the original talent, then sues the crap out of anybody who tries to do same to him. And, as Rev points out, Fairley’s muse is not anything internal to his soul, but crassly and cynically targeted for market purposes, then self-promoted via a Walmart-style hijacking of real social phenomena.
Rev’s day job, for what it’s worth, is actually the promotion of artists and the art world. He is an established and referenced art critic. He knows intimately well the challenges of contemporary artists.
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
thanks.
I took a breather and figured out what Rev was saying regarding the hamburger. I was breathless when I first read it because it seemed the utmost non sequitur. I had to chew on it a bit. I see what you and he are saying and I agree that there is no depth in his work, only marketing. I didn’t know about the lawsuits, but I haven’t paid a lot of attention to him. I can’t remember liking anything by him yet; I got a better result than anything I’ve seen by him, by “posterizing” one of my own photos in a photoshop-type program.
And thanks for the info on Rev. It backs up my original opinion of him, that he doesn’t just shoot his mouth off, unlike me.
P.S. None of my kids is all that great an artist; good but not great.
.... as sexy as socks on a rooster.
MSNBC is reporting just now Michael Jackson was taken to the hospital in Los Angeles
suffering from a heart attack, and he was apparently not breathing when he reached the hospital.

stories are surfacing it’s drug induced cardiac arrest, which would explain the respiratory depression
arrived in a coma…I haven’t heard how long he was down before being discovered.
As a human being, I’m sorry for the kids and his family. Being MJ, I could care less.
I didnt agree with some of the stuff he did

which is fine. Let Farrah’s family and friends have some peace at last. Farrah’s battle was valiant.
MJ is a trainwreck….hell, he’s probably alive and staged the whole thing.

The first half of the 1st round is protected. The Nats could sign Figgy and 10 other players and still draft Harper.

Name me one player on the Angels who doesn’t have a cold streak. I guess the second highest batting average since May 15 isn’t good enough eh?

Figgins for Jenks? Shoot. I don’t know that I’d ever take Jenks back as a franchise, but throw in a prospect and I’d be tempted.

why does everyone want to trade Figgins!
he’s one of our ONLY offensive tools this year… I know he’s gone after the year but don’t we need to think at least a little bit about this year??

Because the difference between Figgy and Wood is probably smaller than the difference between Jenks and Kevin Jepsen, which is who he would kick out of the bullpen. But, yeah, shouldn’t trade Figgins just for fun; only if it makes sense.

I don't get the big deal with the batting line up.
The first time it matters….after that, it’s a crap shoot on the order. So why such a big deal?
Well, who would Hunter and Vladdy rather hit behind, Figgins, or Aybar?
by Big Bad, 'Vlad'! on Jun 25, 2009 7:08 PM PDT up reply actions
on a good day or a bad day?
Figgy can lay down a bunt…so you don’t want Vladi, cuz Vladi can’t run.
Aybar isn’t consistent, so that one is 50/50
I'm just saying, he is 4th in the League in Runs scored, That = RBI for Torii and Vlad.
by Big Bad, 'Vlad'! on Jun 25, 2009 7:11 PM PDT up reply actions
A) If the best reason not to trade somebody is it screws up the No.2 slot in the order, then that’s not a bad reason.
B) Figgins IS better. No one is denying that. But Jenks is better than Jepsen, see? Give something up, get something back.
But, yeah, I’m not saying it’s a slam dunk or that it’d even be right. But I could see it working out.

I've thought about Jenks, but for Figgy?
It’s too big a risk, and besides, I am a fan of the team and the players. Figgins is one of the original Angel World Champions. He is a proven winner. That means a lot to me. To trade him for Jenks, who we gave away seems silly. There are better ways to get the job done then give up one of the top 5 leadoff hitters currently in the game.

Why is there so much Fuentes hate?
yeah…he’s an adventure, but crap does anyone remember that the K on K Rod stood for Kardiac?
This season just seems jinxed. If it can go wrong, it does
it's clear he's not as electric as Frankie
But once mgmt decided to not spend the $$, fuentes was not a bad option. He’s saved 20 out of 23 attempts. ERA’s a little high, but all I really care about is the end result.
Joe Nathan (who may be the best out there) has 17 out of 19. Lidge has blown 6 saves this year so far and he was perfect last year.
I recognize that he’s not Papelbon or Mariano, but for the price and what was out there, he’s not doing bably at all
This season just seems jinxed. If it can go wrong, it does
I remember. I also remember the Manny then the Bay home runs.
